5. Be proactive, not reactive.

Every thread has a plot. Every mission has an objective. Don't just react to what the other person has written. Rather, react and then find a way to contribute to a thread. Putting the responsibility of moving the action forward on one person is inconsiderate, and it can grow tiresome for your partner to play with someone who passively responds, and then offers up nothing in return. For example:

PLAYER A: Ben cleared his way through the hall with a few deft swings of his lightsaber. Pausing at the corner, he slowly peeked around to see if the coast was clear. With no Stormtroopers in sight, it was safe to move on.
PLAYER B: Mara watched Ben disarm the Stormtroopers, and dropped a few with her blaster rifle. She followed him to the corner and pressed herself flat against the wall, waiting for Ben to move forward.

For Player A, they're now forced to carry the plot on their shoulders. Even if their character doesn't want to take the lead, Player B could still add to the overall scene. For example:

PLAYER B: Mara watched Ben disarm the Stormtroopers, and dropped a few with her blaster rifle. She followed him to the corner and pressed herself flat against the wall, waiting for Ben to move forward. Though the building was silent, a number of alarm messages popped up across the holo-terminals located within the facility, alerting security personnel to the potential threat. While they were safe for now, two dozen droidekas were headed their way, prepared to neutralize the intruders.

Bam. Conflict, plot progress, and something for Player A to react to.
