All that heavy gear does is give the ability to transmit over much greater ranges and frequencies. Not the ability to transmit through jamming devices.

Hold on: Corric can transmit, because he has the heavy duty commo gear. Rarda and the rest may hear him, but with some interference. Corric won't be able to hear the message Rarda is sending back. That's the gist, yes?

LOL there is a reason why he asked for the IFF transponder or spoke in code (Or at least attempted to); they're in enemy territory, so you never know who's listening. Plus, the shielding apparently has EW countermeasures, so Rarda would hear nothing but heavy static if he tried to talk back.

Hey, I think you're the right person to ask here - would it be possible to make a character who was a former Lieutenant or Ensign in the Imperial Navy? She'd be hanging out with the Commonwealth, so there wouldn't be any worries about her running off to join the Rebellion or anything. It'd mostly just be for backstory purposes.
