I agree. Who cares about relatability? I want to play the monsters of the universe. The unknowns. Perhaps next will be an Ewok...

I think I'm in love ~<3

I always disliked the people in RP games who played a Human as well. Why are you playing yourself? The entire reason we do this is to escape the real world...I want to break those human limits by playing the races that can break such walls.

You get it! The only reason I even okay human-like species is for art constraints.

You are a 240lb muscled male who takes little children and scares them. I am a black furred werewolf who causes little children to not sleep at night at a mere mention or thought of me. Tell me who is the bigger monster.

Why the hate on people who create human characters? I think that when you create a character concept, a specific race fits it - be it the numerous alien/droid/cyborg possibilities or humans. It is not playing yourself (well, in most cases anyways xP), but a character.

Honestly? Because we want things to be as easy as possible but still enjoyable. Playing a human is "less work" because the writer already knows about humans. Out of the dozens of species in the universe, most people play humans.

And humans are the most populous species in the Galaxy. I just think that judging other people just because they chose to create a human character seems pretty silly to me. There are a LOT of great writers in here who have a human character or two (or three), and yet their background and character concept is very clever and detailed.

I appreciate all the time everyone puts in to their characters. It makes things more enjoyable for everyone involved with them. I just wish overall more people tried something new, walked away from what they know. Whether it be a new race, food or travel.

I see whatcha mean. Seeing more variety overall would be more fun. I try to do it (with my... extravagant cyborg or my dancebot) but I would never trade for life my human character (even though I feel that he is poorly developed - oh well)

I tend to agree with Breeso for this one. Having played both human and non-human characters in the past, I put equal amounts of work into developing both characters. Just because someone creates a human doesn't mean they're being "lazy", they still have to create an effective character with personality, flaws, and motive, arguably the most difficult part about character creation.

Oh wow, the less-evil twin agreed with me for once, I'm honoured xP

Yes but because we are human, we have a solid understanding of how humans work which can make the entire creating an effective character "easier". When you dive in to creating a character who has a different race, you now have to learn everything about that race, and how they interact in the bigger Galaxy. It is an extra process. A place where you can really make your character stand out and shine.

That's kinda silly logic my friend. As someone who has played majorly human and a non human last TL, the amount i put into the characters is a lot. so saying people that make humans are effectively lazy is ridiculous.

This discussion is civil so far. No harsh words, just exchange of opinions

Like i can see the original point, just after that was silly.
