Character Information

  • Despite existing within the same grid space as notable worlds like Korriban and Moraband, the history of Stenos has never been widely known to the larger galaxy. Perplexingly, this is especially true for the ferocious race that inhabits the planet—the Stenax: a violent race of sentient draconic reptiles. However, the Stenax have always been known to the Sith. Likewise, Baell had always known the Sith; he was born seven standard years prior to the fall of the first Sith Empire, time enough for their brutal ways to have been burned into his memory forever. But with the Empire's collapse, Stenos was again allowed to govern itself, and a bloody civil war erupted as to whom that honor would fall.

And so, Baell was raised in the war for his planet's future. His clan, the Green Scales, was considered the most war-like; at the age of twenty (young for a race that can live well over two centuries), he was one of his clan's war chieftains, leading the war effort from the front. His method of total war quickly earned him a name among the rival Red Scales as "the Dragon," referring to a mythical supposed ancestor of the Stenax, which had a fiery breath that reduced all in its path to ashes. Towards the end of the civil war, Baell's father, the clan chief, died of old age after nearly three centuries of life, making Baell the youngest clan chief in its history. With his newfound authority, Baell ordered the Genocide of Farruz, which saw the Green Scales slaughter the citizens of Farruz—the largest city in Red Scale territory—and then burn the city to the ground.

The victory of the Green Scales over the Red Scales meant that Baell's clan, and by extension Baell himself, were crowned rightful rulers over Stenos, beginning a ruthless reign that would extend for several decades. He immediately declared what history would remember as the "Stenos Massacres," which saw the Green Scales systematically eradicated all non-Stenax, thereby returning the planet to its native populous. Following this, Red Scales were regulated to second-class citizens on Stenos and worship of the species' oldest deity, Vol, was reinstated. Such was the way on Stenos for the next several decades as Baell ruled mercilessly from the throne. He would continue to do so until rumors that the Sith had survived began to circulate throughout Sith Space, at which point he organized searches to be conducted for remnants of the long-ago Empire.

Details of his searches are scarce. But it is believed that Baell indeed found the Sith on the border of known space, now known as the Sith Brotherhood, and formed a pact between them. Because of Stenos' position near Korriban, the Stenax (lead by Baell) might have played a role in the Sith Brotherhood's return to their homeworld. Baell reemerged as a soldier in the Sacred Band of Ziost, where he held the rank of Immortal, and came to be known as the "Dragon of the Sith," due to his role in exterminating several Sith enemies throughout the Outer Rim. When Supreme Leader Kyuss Thaunwas crowned Emperor, Baell made a proclamation on Stenos declaring the Sith Emperor to be an incarnation of Vol and commanding all Stenax to follow the Emperor as though he were their god. Likewise, when Emperor Malon took the throne, the proclamation's weight fell upon his shoulders as the new incarnation of Vol.

With the fall of the Old Republic, Baell became one of the frontline commanders as the Sacred Band transitioned into the more robust Imperial Legion. He personally joined the Emperor during the Invasion of Alderaan, and was directly responsible for the Sacking of Aldera, which saw the planet fall into the hands of the newly christened Sith Empire. He was also believed to have fought on the frontlines as the rest of the Core Worlds fell into the hands of the Sith. His victories on the battlefield earned him a place as one of the Empire's most brutal and well-known Generals, as well as Moff of his homeworld Stenax. And, when the battles shifted towards cold war between the Jedi Order and the Mandalorian Dominion, Baell once again turned his attention back to ruling his home with an iron fist, all the while remaining ready to be deployed should the Emperor ever call for his talents again.

  • Baell possesses a wealth of experience, obtained from over a century spent on the battlefield, both at home on Stenos and in service of the Sith (in both its incarnations as the Brotherhood and the Empire).

Stenax Traits: As a Stenax, Baell possesses a pair of remarkably strong wings, which make him capable of flight. Stenax are built with the capability of reaching extreme heights with their wings, allowing them to fly in the upper atmosphere of their homeworld and transverse long distances with flight alone. Evolution has blessed them with a "kleti gland," located along the skull, which allows them to home in on targets at ground-level, even when they are flying at such extreme heights. Due to decades spent using these wings in combat scenarios, Baell has built up a significant amount of stamina, allowing him to remain airborne for long periods of time without tiring.

Weapons Expert: Baell is hailed for his ability to master a wide range of weapons during his long tenure as a warrior. He has received training in all weapons that would have been standard for both the Sacred Band of Ziost and the Imperial Legion. He is also trained in spear combat, a common art on his homeworld of Stenos. Owing to his affiliation with the Sith, and his tendency to take trophies from particularly tough opponents, Baell has also been taught lightsaber combat despite his lack of Force-sensitivity.

Form — Jar'Kai: Baell's most prolific skill is in the use of two lightsabers, a style otherwise known as Jar'Kai. Trained on Odacer-Faustin, one of the Empire's lesser known training academies, he learned to wield the weapon with skill equal to that of a Sith Marauder (though he obviously lacks their Force powers, which sharpen their abilities). Despite lacking the Force, Baell's battle instincts have been sharpened enough to make him a deadly opponent in battle, even though he can't accomplish some of the more supernatural feats associated with the Sith, such as blocking blaster bolts. He has also learned to add some variety into his style, such as using his ability to fly to confuse and overwhelm opponents who are not use to aerial combat, making up for his Force-deficiency.

Form IV, Ataru: His fallback form, in case he is somehow unable to use both lightsabers at once, Ataru was the second form Baell learned at the Odacer-Faustin academy. Form IV is more effective when used outside confined spaces, and is doubly so when used by an acrobatic swordsman; Baell learned to use his military training in combination with his ability to fly to master the form, adding a few variances to account for his unique biology. For instance, Ataru was designed for warriors not facing intense blaster fire—which is outside the range of Baell's abilities anyways due to his lack of the Force—but instead to incorporate Force-imbued acrobatics. While Baell lacks the Force, his wings allow him to compensate for this, allowing him to work flying into his style.

Form I, Shii-Cho: Baell's last resort. Like all attendees at Sith academies across the Empire, Baell learned to master Shii-Cho on Odacer-Faustin: the most basic and fundamental lightsaber form. Though not suited for lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat, Shii-Cho is a decent fallback form should Baell's other forms fail. Like many who learn the form, he has also learned to incorporate elements of the style into his main combat practices, blending them to make Shii-Cho more effective. The randomized nature of Shii-Cho makes it a good choice for disarming foes when Baell would rather keep them alive, either for capture or interrogation purposes.
Expert Tactician: As a General for the Imperial Legion, Baell is a skilled tactician, well-versed in the common tactics of both the Empire and his own warlike race. He styles himself as an "educated student of war" and enjoys studying the tactics of his enemies, either through direct observation or by reading historical accounts. Among his most preferred racial tactics to study are those of the Chiss, whom he finds to be ingenious for their numerous out-of-box strategies and for their highly refined way of thinking. His favored tactic is total war, having used it on Stenos and Alderaan, as it is "a method of forcing ones enemy into complete submission."

Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Due to his training as a warrior and his massive size (in comparison to most humanoids), Baell is well-versed in several martial arts common throughout the galaxy. However, his actual training is in "Wrruushi," a style of martial arts unique to the Wookiees of Kashyyyk. Rare outside of their species—due to their species' unique height and abnormal strength—Wrruushi is rarely practiced outside the Wookiees; however, Baell's similar physique and build allowed him to effortlessly master this style of fighting, which relies upon a combination of punches, jabs, and throws taken a few strikes at a time in order that the practitioner might maximize their strength and effectiveness in those few blows. Joint locks are also common in Wrruushi, and Baell's are noticeably dangerous.
