Remiel had found himself alone in one of the numerous training bunkers of the Alsakan Union. Due to a lack of prior military experience, Remiel had been assigned to a higher-up for training. His normal apparel of a large hat and long, flowing overcoat had been replaced by a basic leather long-sleeve shirt and ragged trousers. He didn't want to ruin his good clothes, especially when he invested so much money to keep them clean and usable.

Glancing around the room, he calmly waited for his master to arrive. He expected his master to get here soon, but there were no guarantees. Life was busy around here, especially with so much to do during the ceasefire. Taking one last shot with his battle rifle, he scored a clear hit on the target he was practicing with before placing it back in the weapon's cache for use by other training cadets.

"And now to wait," he muttered to himself.

Venator had never really liked training. Both a waste of his time and of the Alsakan Military's time, when he could have been killing some Republic soldiers, or gaining himself money. Yet here he was, training yet another Alsakan. Kraan first, and now Remiel. At least it was Remiel, a man he knew well from The Skeleton Guard. If it had been some total stranger, like Kraan, he'd have been far more annoyed. As the most senior Alsakan soldier left after the three attacks, he'd had to volunteer to do it. That or he knew he'd be forced into it. Shocking. The sooner some new men came in to take higher up positions like Major, the better. Remiel, in Venator's opinion, could do that. "Right, Remiel, let's get this over with. Firstly, why'd you join the Alsakans and why the hell do you feel we want you?"

Remiel quickly stood at attention when Venator entered the room. No formalities, no cheery greetings; Remiel didn't mind. He was used to Venator's attitude, though it was a slightly different setting.

"I joined the Alsakans to help with the war effort. The Republic has had it's chance to control galactic affairs, and they've failed. Time to hand the reigns over. Second, I am skilled enough to hold my own in combat, quick enough to think on my feet, and smart enough not to get captured by Republic troops," Remiel made a slight nudge at the other Alsakan forces who were POWs at the moment, though not enough to imply any taunting or ridicule. "Not only that, but the Alsakans need all the manpower they can get. Jedi aren't exactly easy to handle, and no matter which way the Senate turns, they're going to be allied with some Jedi or another."

Remiel picked up his hat and set it on his head, shielding his eye-less face. "Would that be all, Colonel?"

Venator eyed Remiel thoughtfully. This was the first new trainee who'd not only given him a passable answer, but a good one. "Fair enough. Those are not only passable reasons, but good ones." Said Venator, somewhat grudgingly but privately impressed. "Yes, the Alsakans do need all the men they can get for this war, and yes you would be a benefit to us. But it remains to be seen if you can avoid capture when three soldiers, a Captain, a Major and a Lieutenant Colonel, still could not. Do not underestimate the Republic. Tell me, do you believe in Shalharra and her religion?"

Remiel nodded intently as he listened to Venator. At the moment, he didn't desire to impress or appease his master, only to get through this training session. "Very well, I'll make sure not to underestimate the Republic, or their allies."

"As for Shalharra," Remiel began. "I don't believe there is an omnipotent mother-goddess looking after all of us; guiding our war effort. I mean no disrespect, I just choose to accept the facts as they are. We were put here by the Force. The Force gives us life, power, and strength. Not some imaginary being in the sky who has a vendetta against the Republic."

Venator shrugged. He himself believed strongly in Shalharra, but he knew many members of the Alsakans, especially the military, did not. "Fair enough. Not everyone does." Venator then moved onto the next topic. "Now, let's establish some ground rules before going on. My actions are not to be questioned, nor am I to be insulted. I don't accept failure, and if you fail one too many times, you'll find yourself out of the Union quicker than you can say 'What the Holy Mother?!' I'm sure you'll do fine, Remiel, but I make sure with all my trainees that this is established."

"No insubordination, insults, and failure. Got it," Remiel nodded. Common military protocol, but some raw recruits would take a bit of extra 'encouragement' to learn and excel. Throwing his spectacles over his eyes should've been, Remiel faced Venator again, "I'm ready for whatever you have in store, in terms of training. But before we begin, would you prefer 'Sir' or 'Colonel'?

"Lieutenant Colonel." Venator replied shortly, elaborate words not flowing. "So then, onto our first topic: Which weapons do you prefer using, and in which situation would you use a specific weapon?"

((Sorry it's short, but training threads are just...))

"Alright, well..." Remiel thought for a moment before responding, glancing around at the empty room to clear his thoughts. "I use three weapons: battle rifle, knife, and fists. I would use a battle rifle against other gunman and melee combatants who are still several meters away. I would use knives against melee combatants - or fist fighters - who are close enough to attack me; a backup weapon, if you will. And fists when all else fails. Satisfactory, Colonel?"

Venator nodded, slowly thinking over what he'd seen of Remiel before and of how he'd seen him fight. Despite knowing of Remiel's ability himself, Venator still had to guide him through all the steps and gain an opinion solely from his Alsakan training. "Come with me to the training lists." Said Venator, before moving out the door towards them.

"Yes Colonel," Remiel said, slightly muttering, as he followed the Zeltron out of the barracks and calmly stayed about half-a-meter behind the Lieutenant Colonel as they reached the training lists.

"Good." Venator said. "Now, I want you to activate each hologram individually and each will exhibit a different style of attack. Combat them all. Pass them all with a degree of doing well, and voila! Congratulations. Task done."

"Yessir," said Remiel, softly and quickly. With a slight grin on his face, the Miraluka began the training simulator.

As the first foe, a Republic swordsman, appeared as if from nowhere, Remiel calmly drew his small knife and took several clean swipes. After 'dueling' with the figure for several seconds, Remiel landed a successful hit and slew the first hologram. Next came a fist-fighter, with no other weapons in close-quarters. Dropping his knife, Remiel battered at the holographic image several times before final hitting it with an uppercut to the jaw and sending it spiraling back into the void it came from. Finally, Remiel's last foe was a gunman, about two meters from Remiel's position. Whipping out his battle rifle, Remiel took several quick shots at the target, taking it down with an odd sense of ease and accomplishment.

Smiling halfheartedly, Remiel turned toward the Zeltron officer who had been watching, probably silently. "Satisfactory, Colonel?"

Venator nodded. "Good. I need not tell you that if you mess up just once, you're not fit for the Alsakan Union, and the best you can hope for is the rank of a private, something I'm sure is not at the top of your aspirations, eh?" Venator waited for no answer before moving over to the computer board which controlled the holograms. "They'll all be using the same weapons, but this time I want you to do it again. With no weapons. Do it with you bare hands, incapacitating them before they get the chance to blow your head off. Start!" Venator barked, giving Remiel little respite time, as the first hologram formed and moved towards him. It'd be up to Remiel to choose when they attacked him, but defeat them all he must. This would test him.

Remiel grumbled. "Bah, only Private. How depressing."

But the training simulation started only seconds after. Now commanded to fight weaponless, Remiel dropped the gun that he had been carrying on his shoulders and rushed toward the Republic swordsman that had appeared first. Though the hologram almost scored a successful hit, Remiel performed a successful feint and dodged the attack. With a kick to the legs and a swift one-two punch to the face, Remiel brought the figure keeling over. Second was the fist-fighter. Mimicking his previous encounter, Remiel battered at the hologram several times before defeating it with a swift uppercut. Finally came the gunman. Remiel sprinted as fast as he could toward the holographic figure. Jumping several feet into the air and using the Force to watch the blaster rifle's projected path, Remiel dodged his first shot and managed to score a kick to the figure's face before he could fire another shot. Obviously, it wouldn't be that easy against a real opponent, but Remiel understood the purpose of the exercise.

Nodding at the Colonel, he waited for his superior officer's reply.

"Good." Venator said, the Lieutenant Colonel working his mind as to what they'd do next. "Having already had much prior experience with you in The Skeleton Guard, I don't think there's much more that needs doing." Venator paused for a moment. "However, just what can you do with this 'Force'? Show me the extent of your abilities. The holograms are at your disposal."

Remiel chuckled. "Skill in the Force?" began Remiel. "I can't do much with the Force. To my knowledge, my abilities are restricted to basic sight, some random precognitions, and some heightened senses. I'll see what I can do, though."

Calming his mind, Remiel activated a basic training hologram. As it slowly flickered into existence, Remiel moved his right arm forward; the limb slowly extended and appeared as though it were grasping at the hologram's distant figure. Allowing the Force to bubble up inside him like a cool, rich stream, he smiled as the radiant energy pulsated through his arm and finally reached his gloved digits. Releasing a small shockwave of pure energy, Remiel flew back about half-a-meter as the uncontrolled blast soared through the hologram - destroying it - and toward a distant wall; finally dissipating on contact.

"That's probably the extent of my capability in that field, Colonel. I already feel drained and nauseous." Remiel groaned as he wiped the sweat from his brow.

Venator nodded at the display by Remiel. "Good. Now, onto another part: How much would you trust a fellow Alsakan soldier, and how much a soldier of the Republic?"

"Trust? Well, I would trust them with my life, Colonel," Remiel said solemnly. "We both serve a common cause, and we should be no less than brothers-in-arms. That being said, there should be a safe level of paranoia to prepare for any... potential treacherous actions."

Remiel paused. "As for a Republic soldier, it would really have to depend. I would never trust them with my life, and I would never trust them over an Alsakan. Satisfactory, Colonel?"

Venator smiled. "Blind faith is foolish faith, unless it is in the holy Mother, Remiel Vaern; any one of your Alsakan comrades could turn onto the Republic's side any day and stab you in the back. Yes, you should trust them with your life in battle, but maintain a degree of sense as to how you trust them. Don't let anyone backstab you; you're no use to us dead." Venator paused to think of his next plan. "Let me show you something. Come over here." Venator pointed and indicated a spot on the floor some way forwards. Striding over there himself, he waited. "I'm an Alsakan in this example, as I am now. I want you to fall backwards, with your eyes closed in however the hell you Miraluka cut off your vision. It's up to you to trust me to catch you." Venator smiled, sadistically. "Just to make it harder, this'll be beneath you." Venator pulled open a cloth bag and sprinkled shards of glass over the floor. "Any one of these will hurt. So now you have to trust me even more." Venator extended his arms. "I'm waiting."
