Lost for a while in the mix of Force energy, Hannibal barely noticed when the signal went off, only slipping out of his meditation because Nashyr started pulling away. He blinked once and then moved to follow, grin reasserting itself across his features. "I do happen to have placed my bets. Just not on the races." Normally he would have tried his hand, but he didn't have a good feeling about this particular race, so he didn't. As they got closer to the area from which one could properly watch the speeding rust burners and other cobbled-together swoops, his attention was drawn first to the skeleton-looking alien and, immediately afterwards, a screeching cut-together machine that was clearly built around part of a TIE engine. That didn't give him a good feeling, but what really distracted him was the other guy. Every time Hannibal looked at him on the viewscreen he got prickles along the back of his neck, and he couldn't tell if that was a sign he was going to crash, cheat, or both.

He shrugged it off quickly, lighting a new cigarra from his pack and swiping two new drinks from someone nearby carrying a small pile of cans without their noticing. He wordlessly offered Nashyr one of the cans. "I can't tell if that masked dude is a genius or an idiot." he commented out loud, laughing at the sheer audacity of strapping a seat and controls to a fighter engine already renowned for unforgiving thrust in the vacuum of space. "I almost hope he wins just to see the look on people's faces."

Hannibal found his eyes stuck to the skeletal looking driver despite his commentary, however, noting he was in the lead and wondering what he might do to keep it that way.

The constant scream of the TIE engine was like a banshee screaming behind him. It ended up making him smile for awhile as the rest lagged behind. But the grin disappeared as the vibrations of the rust burner around him changed. It was shaking differently than normal. He could feel it in the frame.

Kai's eyes scanned his dashboard looking for the cause. A hand reached out, changing a setting but it seemed like there was a hiccup in his vehicle that was causing him to lose the speed he had been enjoying a moment ago. <"Oh THIS is just typical!"> He said to himself in Huttese. Kai was trying to figure out what he needed to do to fix his rust burner. He did not dare look in his mirrors. If they passed him, they passed him.

Vara grinned at the Hutt's remarks, knowing that any business with a Hutt was usually profitable, so long as you stayed in their grace. She had learned to play into, but turn down advances of potential collaborators as Ikraggo phrased it.

The conversation was cut short by the races abrupt upstart. It seemed that the show was getting on the not-so-metaphorical road, and Vara didn't want to miss it. Thankfully, it seemed her new acquaintance had the same idea to investigate. Sportsmanship was always something Vara enjoyed, whether it was Huttball, Podracing, or even holo-chess.

She took another sip of the drink she was handed earlier. It was starting to run out, but that didn't worry her. There was an obvious abundance of alcohol. Vara looked over at the Hutt she previously had been speaking to, responding once again in Huttese. "I'll put 50 credits on the skeletal one in the rust burner,"

Unfortunately for Brahe, a similar situation revealed itself when one of the other speeders, frustrated with the obviously obnoxious noise generated from Brahe's speeder, rammed into the side of his speeder, knocking one of the couplings loose. His speeder lost stability, forcing Brahe to ease on the throttle to keep the thing from falling apart. Frustrated with the thing, he began flipping a couple switches and pressing some buttons in an attempt to regain max velocity. It appeared that Kai was having the same issues, as both racers were now in the rear of the pack. while the rest flew on by.

Things were not looking good. The rugged looking Rust Burner continued to loose acceleration. A home made air speeder passed him on the left and on the right. "At this rate I'm not even going to crash into anything fast enough." The dashboard sparked. A small flame began to grow in front of the passenger seat, blackening the right side of his windshield from the inside. "$*#%"

Black acrid smoke poured out of the passenger window leaving a trail behind him. Anybody looking at his tail lights would get a face full of smoke. Kai reached out a hand, below the line of sight of most drivers who were more interested in the lead cars rather than him. His hand curled, imagining it wrapping around the flames and choking them out. His airspeeder swerved a bit more than usual due to his attention being primarily focused on not riding a soon to be chariot of fire.

The masked Brahe frowned and gritted his teeth in frustration as he struggled to get the damn engine stabilized, continuing to flick switches and press buttons repeatedly, just begging for the force to be on his side just this one time. Humorously enough, the speeder slowed even more, almost out of spite, comically driving next to Kai's speeder at a sad little pace. Brahe looked to his left at Kai, then back at his speeder controls as he continued to attempt to get the damn thing to fly properly. The TIE speeder's iconic scream was now reduced to an annoying on-off cycle of screaming forward and then not screaming at all. He squinted his eyes at the smoke and coughed a bit- that was some nasty stuff! It was making visibility worse, and next thing you know, he something.

A freshly offloaded pile of illicit magazines exploded everywhere as Brahe's speeder plowed through. They were going slow, but it was slow for a race, not necessarily slow for an everyday driver. Next thing you know, said magazines were everywhere, several copies landing in and around Brahe's passenger cabin, and a whole bunch more landing in the vicinity of Kai.

The smoke was decreasing. The smell of burnt plastics and an electrical fire filled the aispeeder's enclosed cabin. Thankfully the windows were down so the cool-ish Nar Shaddaa night air kept Kai from coughing. But another, noisy speeder crept past him as they both continued to still race down the route.

"Screw it! That thing is just..." he pulled out the blaster pistol and leaned out the window. His upper torso hung out the side and he fired several shots. Hitting a high speed vehicle from another high speed vehicle that Kai was manning himself was easier said than done. Blue blaster bolts zipped past Brahe's airspeeder.

Having vented some of his frustration into the air around Brahe, the Grysk did not notice several trash containers on a catwalk and ran directly into them. Naturally, they were full of rubbish and covered his windshield again. The impact brought the relatively slow airspeeder down another notch. "I am going to scrap you after this." He said to the airspeeder. A sprits of windshield wiper fluid followed as the man tried clearing his windshield. Eventually he gave up and just continued to drive with his head stuck out the window.

Brahe dodged Kai's blaster fire, zooming away in an attempt to pull ahead. Unfortunately, he hit a couple more random trash cans, sending their contents flying and slowing his speeder even more- now it was going at a snail's pace.

A moment later, Brahe's engine cut out entirely, the iconic screaming noise of the TIE engine completely dying out, the speeder losing pretty much all power. Brahe frowned and bashed the controls in frustration, his speeder slowing down till it pretty much sat dead in the water. At least they had been going slow enough to where Brahe was able to stop safely.

That safety didn't last long, because moments later, blaster fire rang out as Brahe's speeder was ambushed by the angry locals. Ditching the speeder entirely, Brahe ran off into the alleyways of Nar Shadda, cursing to himself. Moments later, he heard the explosion of his speeder getting blown up, likely by said angry locals. He was out of the race, and he'd have to start from scratch now.

The rattling sound of the rust burner's frame, the whipping air and the noise of the city filled Kai's eyees. But there was one thing that quickly left his senses. The sound of that TIE abominaton and its feral engine. With his head still out the window the Grysk saw it plumit but did not see the crash. He was already past it.

One thing caught his eyes. A large metal barb that was directly protruding from the hood of his rust burner. Kai had not noticed it until now but it was likely causing a lot of issues. Putting his blaster away he reached out. To the outside observer it looked like he was about to climb on the hood of his own air speeder. But he remained still.

His hand holding the steering had reflexivly pulled back causing the air speeder to climb. With a quick wrenching of his open hand the rebar came loose and was soon lost in the city below. "Look out below" He said indifferently like it wasn't something that could kill someone. If anybody asked, it was jostled loose.

Leveling the vehicle out he could feel his vehicle had somewhat stabalized. He passed one, two, three other rust burners that were not doing any better. Eventually he pulled back up to the party. People gathered around the winner and the driver in second place. Kai, while not first or second, still seemed to get some pats on the back from his own gang and some words of encouragement. "at least you didn't die...this time." One person said. Kai chuckled and looked over his shoulder at the slightly smoking rust burner he had just ridden in. In the passenger seat where smoke still flowed sat the woman from earlier. She smiled at him and then her pink hued zeltron skin seemed to float up and out of the window like the smoke. Join me some other time darling.

The man turned away from the dangerous vehicle and went to get another drink. He was not sure if he felt relieved, excited, or a little disappointed. Whatever the case, he was sure that a few pints of beer and enough drugs to incapacitate a convent full of the hardiest nuns would do the trick.
