INTENT
This craft is intended to fill a very narrow niche and serve as a very unorthodox personal craft- a high-end racing Starfighter. We have a lot of commonly available personal Starfighters, but they are mostly equipped as able combat craft. The only non-combat personal craft we have access to right now are yachts and freighters, with nothing at all in the Starfighter-sized category. To balance out the ludicrous speeds achievable with this space-hot-rod, it's not designed or equipped as a combat craft at all, and trying to use it as one will almost certainly result in the users untimely death. While this particular model represents the absolute peak of professional sublight racer craftsmanship, with its customizability it is well suited to act as a base for generitech re-skins representing diversity on the intergalactic racing circuit.

It is well suited as a personal craft or weekend toy for any characters who feel the need...

The need for speed.

DESCRIPTION
A thousand years ago, in the early days of the Republic, the first legendary Bi-Vane Starfighters captured the imaginations of young spacefarers across the galaxy. With speed and maneuverability ahead of their time and sleek, timeless hull lines, the craft dazzled billions with their slick sublight and atmospheric maneuvers. The roar of primitive fission engines accompanied military parades the Galaxy over. Daring and dashing Bi-Vane pilots- every woman wanted one and every man wanted to be one.

The BVR-X is not that starship.

The BVR-X is that starships aggressively sexy great-great-great-grandbaby.

The latest model in the Ossein Racing Bi-Vane Racer (BVR) line, the BVR-X was built from the ground up as a replacement for the pioneering racing company's wildly popular BVR-9. Featuring the latest in lightweight durasteel alloy construction, an all new hull design, and state-of-the-art turbocharged antimatter engines, the BVR-X is the pinnacle of modern sport-ship technology. While it's predecessor BVR-9 still holds the galactic record for most sector and regional championships, the BVR-X is taking the racing circles by storm, and is already on track to shatter old scores and leave competition in it's space dust. Brilliant custom paint jobs and gaudy corporate logos and advertisements often adorn the craft, and are becoming an increasingly common site on the track and in the hands/claws/tentacles of status obsessed rich-beings everywhere.

Designed for speed at the expense of all else, casual pilots will likely find the BVR-X dangerous and uncomfortable, but real professionals expect as much and will feel right at home behind the stick. With an in depth understanding of their customer base, Ossein's engineers made several ingenious design features. First, in an effort to keep the craft space-lane-legal in as many sectors as possible for their luxury customers and race-craft enthusiasts, the team rigidly adhered to Galactically recognized minimum safety standards. The base model BVR-X comes equipped with a power efficient life support system that will keep the pilot alive in space, but provides little in the way of environmental comforts, and most pilots wear specially designed racing suits to make up for it. The ships sensor systems are short range and designed only to detect and identify potential navigational hazards that a pilot might miss at high speeds, as well as very close craft outside of the cockpits visual "bubble", leaving larger objects like capital sized ships or cargo haulers and giant asteroids to be detected by the pilots own personal sensors- the Mark-1-eyeball. The nav computer is specially designed to load and mark race-route check points for atmospheric and sublight inter-system race tracks, and is not capable of making inter-stellar jump calculations on its own. As it is not intended for combat, it is equipped only with a light particle shield generator to deflect small space debris and help mitigate the damage caused by potential mid-race collisions. The communications suite, while short ranged, is quiet advanced, featuring multi frequency and semi-open channel capability for communicating with the pilots pit-crew throughout the race. As an added (and some would say unnecessary) safety feature, the cockpit comes standard with an emergency ejection seat which carries both a parachute for atmospheric bail outs, and a 15 minute emergency life support bubble to facilitate space rescues. Considered unnecessary power sinks, the base model BVR-X does not feature any integrated weaponry, no armor to speak of, has a limited fuel capacity, and no space remains in the internals for fitting a hyperdrive- though it is compatible with many popular Hyperdrive-Booster Rings for long distance transportation purposes.

All of the above makes for a fairly minimal power draw and significant weight savings, giving the craft an impressive top speed in its base configuration, in a package that is mostly safe and legal to fly nearly anywhere in the galaxy. The real genius comes in to play when a professional pilot and pit crew get ahold of the craft and realize how easy it is to modify. Catering to its most hardcore customers, Ossein Racing offers a variety of aftermarket OEM parts, and an entire industry of mod makers has cropped up around the company- something that is quietly encouraged for marketing purposes.

Aftermarket Mods
For professional racers looking to squeeze maximum performance out of the craft, the already limited safety equipment is often the first to go. Ejection seats are replaced with light weight and un-powered bucket seats, often custom made for the pilots anatomy and comfort. The life support systems are stripped down to next-to-nothing, which while it saves on weight and power, it requires the pilot to wear a fully sealed vac suit to operate outside of atmosphere, or a thermal suit and respirator system to operate in atmosphere at altitude. Some especially daring (or suicidal) pilots even disable the ships particle shielding and replace the hazard sensors with simple docking aid sensors, leaving the craft entirely unprotected- these pilots rely totally on their own (hopefully) prodigious skills to keep them alive, all for a few extra MGLT. A BVR-X featuring modifications like this is often not space-lane legal for safety reasons, and can only be operated within the confines of an organized racing event. Local authorities often enjoy stopping and ticketing pilots trying to skirt these safety laws- often just so the officers can get a holo-photo with the ship.

Though not a legal modification in all racing promotions, some pilots (often those doing the rounds in the Outer Rim circuits) in more dangerous sectors sometimes sacrifice a bit of speed for an underslung light laser cannon. While this is a far cry from making the BVR-X a suitable combat craft, it is enough to fend off silicone based pests that inhabit some regions- giant mynocks and void sharks, mostly- and can make potential thieves think twice about accosting the pilot.

For the true adrenaline junkie, some companies offer an expensive and highly specialized single-use fuel injection booster that can be fitted to the engine. While the booster degrades the crafts top speed (-5MGLT) during normal operation due to fuel consumption inefficiencies, when activated it provides a several second temporary speed boost of up to +15MGLT. Some pilots keep this in reserve as a home stretch trump card, roaring through the finish line at neck breaking speeds.

All aftermarket modifications not professionally installed by the Ossein Racing Customs Shop at their headquarters on Malastare void the crafts mechanical warranty.

I'm too biased in favor of myself to approve my own tech.

Approve it anyway, it's okay, I won't tell and if you don't they'll never know. Also this thing is beautiful, I will find a way to use it to cause chaos though, that I promise you.

Using that image as nose art on your new BVR-X would certainly cause chaos.
