Ranks of The Galactic Republic

Welcome to the Republic faction! Now that you've decided to join (or even if you're still thinking of joining), it's important to know what the organization and ranks are in the faction. The Republic faction is organized into two sub-groups: The Grand Army of the Republic which is the official fighting force sponsored and sanctioned by the Republic, and the Senate, which represents the political, espionage, and administrative bodies of the Republic.

The Grand Army of the Republic (otherwise known as the GAR) is a collective fighting force deriving resources and assets from member worlds committed to countering the Sith threat. It was preceded by the Border Alliance, which represented worlds primarily from the Republic's northern most territory that fell under the direct threat of Sith conquest. When the Galactic Senate chose not to combat the Sith, believing the Sith would not be strong enough to represent a true threat to the Republic, these member worlds brought their militias and armies together to form the Border Alliance. As the Galactic Senate debated politics and foreign policy on their capital of Chandrila, the Border Alliance had taken the fight directly to the Sith. It took near unspeakable acts of violence and terrorism for the Republic to finally realize the grave threat the Sith posed, which is why it now is building a massive war machine once again. As of now, the Faction Leader is Currently the Supreme Commander and Chancellor, with his Assistant Faction Leader Head Speaker within the Republic Senate.

In the military part of things is the General of the Grand Army (or just GGA). This thread details the ranks in both the Grand Army of the Republic and the Galactic Senate.

The Supreme Chancellor: The leader of the Senate, elected by its membership, the Supreme Chancellor was once a true executive before the end of the last great war with the Sith a century ago. As with most of the Republic’s central authority and organization, it dissipated as calls for autonomy and decentralization increased. Now, the Supreme Chancellor has returned to the role of the absolute leader of the Republic, imbued with emergency powers. The Chancellor leads the Defense Council though in practice most minutia is left to his Vice-Chancellor and the GGA by his side, who represent the two sides of High Command and act as his inner cabinet. Also called the Supreme Commander he is the leader of the Galactic Republic.

Republic Senate

While some respect and appreciate the diplomacy and the democracy of the Republic, others see it as a nuisance. All the same it is an integral part of the Galactic Republic. Senators represent their planets and people in an effort to balance out decision making. Not just a single voice speaks in the senate. Together they debate subjects of importance that will decide the best course of action for the republic. While nobody likes compromises it helps the greater good of the republic comes from a wide array of people and cultures. Unified decisions though tumultuous at times results in a community spanning the stars with the Galactic Senate being its nexus.

Senator: The representatives of the Republic, these individuals have become members of the Republic Senate. Senators often have unparalleled resources and connections even before becoming members of the Senate and are typically keen political operators with multiple ways to get things done. The promise of power is a tempting one and some have joined the Senate simply to be closer to it, while others are patriots who seek to see the Republic through the war and see peace restored. On top of this some even wish to raise the republic above what it had even been before, bringing about an even greater time of prosperity. Together they discuss, debate, represent and participate in numerous events and subjects that are in the interest of the Galactic Republic.

Head Speaker: The Head Speaker is the elected or chosen deputy of the Supreme Chancellor. Traditionally they have served as the Speaker of the Senate but with the new changes in the Galactic Repulic, the Head Speaker represents the civilian and political interests of the Senate while organizing other duties with the Supreme Chancellor. The Head Speaker has become more involved in the day-to-day operations of the Senate since the Supreme Chancellor began leading both the military and diplomatic sides of the Republic simultaniously, leading to the Head Speaker occasionally seen as the Vice Chancellor.
