The Republic
“Surviving thousands of years of wars with the ancient Sith, the Republic has stood the test of time. However, in years of peace, galactic concerns have been eclipsed by more local and regional disputes - the Republic has always been a cumbersome beast, slow to act. Thus, the burden to react to new rumors of Sith activity falls on the far-flung colonies of the Republic - isolated worlds that have everything to lose.”

The Border Alliance
Most Republic worlds remain largely autonomous. The Republic, being a trade alliance first and foremost, is often satisfied with arranging trade treaties and leaving the various worlds to their own devices. In a galaxy weary of war, few are willing to give the rumours from the Outer Rim of a new Sith uprising any recognition. For the few worlds on the edge of the Republic who have seen firsthand the devastation the Sith can bring, however, action is necessary for survival. The Border Alliance is a loose military alliance of several worlds on the edge of the galaxy, most of whom still bear the scars of previous Sith conflicts. Assembling their forces under a united banner, the Alliance fight desperately against a threat the rest of the galaxy refuse to even recognize.

If I ever get to making a third character after my senator and the leader of the Paladins I am tempted to join the Border Alliance then I can shoot some stuff. What would you like to do @Mr.BossMan ?

Basically I made this thread to see what others would do in the faction. What all do you plan on making? What will your character be like? @Braden Drake

See I am big navy fan so I would love to make like an admiral type character, but I understand that naval battles haven't really worked here. So I am undecided to go as a normal grunt or specialist.

Added in everyone else from the BA group.

I've got the draft of my BA character up already, a Chiss pilot and soldier.

I see the Border Alliance as being the Greeks during the invasion of the Persian Empire.

Ultimately it will make sense base on what we know, for the Sith to try to get control of the Perlemian Trade Route so they can control their passage to Coruscant. They could try the Hydian Way as well, but it would be less convenient and Sith don't like inconveniences.

So, just sticking with canon planets, I plan on a couple of the first battles taking place on Felucia and Rhen Var. The planets have important strategical value for the Sith controlling their access to the PTR from Moraband.

I imagine key Border Alliance worlds being Saleucami, Taris, Serenno, Phindar, Belderone, and Maridun. Those are just some canon planets that I picked out that are spread across the Outer Rim border protecting Coruscant.

But they represent a barrier for the Sith and will likely feel the full effect of the Sith forces trying to break through the Outer Rim and into The Core Worlds.

That's a pretty ragtag selection of planets, some of them--like Serenno--will have a lot of resources while planets like Taris and Maridun suffer.

The Border Alliance will be very unique and diverse. Not to mention the resources that come from mid rim, inner rim, etc... Because they want to stop the threat before it gets to them.

I don't see the Border Alliance being a squared away organization with a set rank system or a clearly defined chain of command. More like the Sector Forces of the Alliance during the Rebellion.

Either way, should be pretty cool, I have a lot of ideas.

Going from what we've seen so far it looks like our biggest strength is going to be less in combined forces and more in rebel style cells spread across the border so we can get in fast hammer the enemy then get out again drawing them in and chewing them up 1 piece at a time rather then trying to repel them in a single battle.

So, less a wall of systems and more like a web of booby traps. Counter attacking rather than defending...

Okay, that seems like our best option.

I mean we could try to mount a full scale defensive line, but we've got an enormous border to cover we'd be spread so thin trying to cover it all that they'd sweep aside whatever we had in place in no time.
I figure it's more effective to try to slow them down while we bring in forces from other areas and then chew them up bit by bit. We don't need to win the battle all we need to do is slow them down and bleed them until they're in no shape to continue forward.

Jeez you guys are going crazy with the tactics here haha.

I agree, but I'm still thinking about making a navy character, probably lower rank. I think something that could make the navy more interesting is incorporating them in the ground battles for troop transport, orbital strikes/air support, etc. There's no reason to limit them to space battles.

That should work fine we'd just need to work out some missions that incorporate space and land battles at once rather then dividing them up into 2 individual parts.

It depends on where the Sith are attacking. That will determine how we react and respond.

I have to disagree with your last point there. The Sith will bleed us dry, we need the help. Like some people said we have a huge border to cover, and on top of that the Senate will be our saving grace or our fatal flaw. We will have to hold out and make due with what we have, rather then taking the fight to them.

I see us as barely holding out defensively, the problem is we are just to damn big. Where to spread out, to big and to weak.

The Sith however are centralized. They are a focused group of fighters, with only two planners they have much to gain and can attack in a controlled centralized manner. Hitting hard and hitting fast.

It will take us to long to counter attack, cause were to damn big.

Basically all in all I envision us as being a weakened military. Desperately holding on to what we have. Waiting for the Senates help, a help they may or may not give.

Holding out won't work though, if we hit and run and avoid major confrontations we can hurt them with minimal losses so our forces will last a lot longer and slow them down until help can arrive to allow us to engage directly. If we just try to hold out and fight directly from the start they'll sweep us aside in an hour because they'll be facing a fraction of our total forces with the majority of there own.
Unless we can predict where they're going to attack in advance then we have no way to focus enough of our forces to stand a chance of holding out.

That's why we have to use hit and run attacks, we don't need to win the battle straight away we can bide our time and prepare a counter attack then retake our lost ground and in the process of doing so we're also preventing them from advancing any further because if they advance then they're exposing there rear to us.
Like you said, we're big. That's a weakness and a strength it gives us space to fall back and gather our forces for a direct engagement once we know where the enemy fleet is.

The only conceivable way I can see for us to fight a holding battle like you want is if we blockade the twin worlds from the start so that we can concentrate our forces against them without exposing ourselves and trap the Sith fleet before it can disperse, once it's dispersed all we can do is fight constant small battles to try and buy time to get reinforcements.

For now guys don't worry wait until we know which side has more forces. Just because the sith have force users doesn't mean the BA is at a clear disadvantage.

Oh I don't care about the force at all if anything I'd say not having it is an advantage for us.

I have to say that no, the force in a land battle very much makes it hard for anyone fighting them. Like in any PVP battle force users have a clear advantage.
