The Jedi Order
"Guardians of peace in the galaxy for millennia, the Jedi Knights have often found their mystical abilities being used against their ancient foes, the Sith Order. As the Republic grows complacent, the Jedi Knights find themselves tasked with facing their foes more and more - the prolonged conflict turning more and more Knights to the insidious dark side of the Force, corrupting the Jedi and turning them into the very enemy they face."

OOC Information
Although past timelines have used the entire Jedi Order as a faction, we are dealing with just part of it: the Jedi Knights, crusaders for peace and justice. Though the Order is well-known for being passive peacekeepers in the galaxy, centuries of conflict with the Sith have bred a cultural shift within the Jedi Order. While the Council still leads the Order from afar in terms of training and recruitment, as well as the collection of knowledge and philosophy in the galaxy, many in the Order now serve more actively in their responsibilities as peacekeepers, adjudicators and law enforcement. The Knight-Crusaders of the Jedi Order are a far more pro-active sect of the Order who seek a more active role in the galaxy, using their skills with the Force and their iconic lightsabers to enforce peace and law in the galaxy.

The above was taken from the initial announcement thread. See also the What's Next poll and discussion. Check the DotR Workshop and Timeline Announcement forums as well. Random Jedi combat image from the intertubes.

Force Powers
There is now an excellent write-up on Force Powers as a part of the DotR TL. Please refer to this page as you plan out your characters and plots.

Planning Roster
The following people (and characters) have noted herein that they intend to play a Jedi character (or two). I will try to keep this as up to date as possible. Please PM me or reply here if there are any issues.
Notes: This list is in alphabetic order by user (no butthurt over the order, please). Also, players marked with ** are planning two characters.

Jedi Crusaders (Knights so far - Generals and Lord TBD)

I honestly hope this faction gets a lot of people, since though not at first I am thinking of making a character that becomes a Jedi after his story progresses. The guy will be more sage oriented, and hopefully we don't get pushed around or beaten up like in this timeline :(

Agreed. I think if we have a decent group of Knights and the FLs helping obviously, and some focused purposeful missions, we can really make an impact. We'd just need to keep that momentum going.

From what I can tell a lot of Sith players right now are becoming Jedi next timeline. And not many Jedi players seem to want to turn.

Who is going to be the new faction leader for the timeline?

But on a bit of a tad serious note, I'm guessing missions are going to mostly be military based with collaboration with the border alliance?

I am on-board with any bad to passable singing that this causes.

Assuming I'm allowed to stick my foot in the door, I'm interested, ;p

The easiest way to answer that is that we'll have to wait and see. It all depends on what ideas the new FL has, as well as what other members come up with.

Though from what I've read, the Jedi aren't actually allied with the BA/Republic as a whole. They'll be doing their own thing, which I have no doubt will involve kicking a few Sith butts here and there

As FL what is our winning strategy to wipe out the Sith?

Appoint a Hutt as your leader, and literally devour your enemies.

But, I reckon on a serious note the good old fashioned "Wait until it's to late then regret not looking for them sooner" should be done.

While we're not directly allied both interests do intersect. Though I think it would be interesting if the Jedi faction distanced themselves away from the Republic.

Yes, the Jedi are kind of on their own, with no official relationship to the Senate. Not to say they wouldn't fight together with the BA, but the Jedi will be their own force (pun intended) combatting evil and crossing the line once in a while to kill the Sith. ;)

Sounds cool. Do you have any set plans or goals for your character?

Wiping out the Sith is an impractical goal and one that will only cause frustration and stalemate since, after all, this is a game and not a novel. We're freeform, which means no actual mechanics, which means no actual way to judge who is winning or advancing or losing in any concrete way. A more realistic question to ask would be something from an in character stance "Where are our plans to combat the Sith's pollution?" or if you're deadset on keeping this purely OOC "What are your plans to help develop a story between the two factions that does not hinge entirely on Player vs. Player combat or predetermined interaction?"

Of course the answers to those questions are very complicated, and in the RP's current state, not of much use. It is my personal opinion that in order for a true story to be developed from players themselves the faction must come up with its own general narrative for action. For example:

"We are attacking the Sith."

"Why?"

"Sith are bad."

Doesn't actually have anything to write about in it, nothing to build from. Everyone wants content, but for it to be interesting and engaging there needs to be a reason for a specific event. Example:

"We're attacking the Sith."

"Why?"

"They declared sovereignty over world outside of Republic control. Millions are being forced into slavery and dying. We need..."

Suddenly there's more but still it's not enough. It's one thing to simply say we're going to attack the Sith with good reason, but you cannot have content without a response and the only way to insure a response in a game like this is to work with the other side. Which would make my answer to your initial question of "What are your plans to wipe out the Sith?":

"Nothing, there's no point to tackle such an obviously overreaching goal. My plan would be to work with the Sith leaders to come up with ways for the factions to interact both in combat and other ways. I might push for the popularization of personal chapters so people can tackle meaningful objectives solo or spark a larger reaction from a solo event. Aiming to destroy the other side is not the way to go this time around."
