I do think that it is worth bearing in mind that the process of impeachment is long winded - and shouldn't just be done on a whim. Otherwise all the senate will ever do is impeach everyone else in the senate.

Impeachment needs a process, which is public knowledge I think.

Also, what's the possibility of IC Political Factions forming?

There isnt a defined "process" in the TT. But there is a very natural procedure for ALL legislation that would work for impeachment - once the write-ups are finished and released, we can all discuss it with the FL.

Edit:re:political factions

Some will form naturally, surely, but there is little reason to formalize them. Interested parties could probably have a little thread in the OOC and organize folks if they felt so inclined.

Is this the right place to offer myself as an aide to a senator or perhaps a representative? I want one of my three characters to be politically inclined, and to serve a senator would probably suit him well. Have others considered roleplaying an aide or a representative as well? :)

I've toyed with the thought of having an aide.

PM me with your character ideas, we can chat it over?

@TAC, @Ral Aran due to time constraints I'm not going to be able to do the Senator for Mandalore anymore.

I can take over.

Duly noted. I shall change things over.

Also, for those interested:

Timeline Start Announcement

Application process for faction leaders is also detailed there. If you'd like, feel free to share your candidacy with the group so we can all celebrate and contribute to the process.

I originally had Bandomeer.... I shamelessly snagged it agan because I like the character's feet being in both parts of the faction.

I would suggest someone pick up Brentaal a) so I dont change my mind again and b) because its going to be REALLY important as the sithies try to get to Coruscant (its a big hyperlane crossing).

Sure, that would be great. I only have the broad strokes laid down so far, though :)

Just going to say - my senator is now all finished, and ready for the new timeline.

I'll be open to people RP'ing as aides or staff for my senator, and will be looking forward to RP'ing with you all - on the same, or opposite sides of the house ;)

So excited we finally have a date for the TL! I have been doing a lot of back and forth on what I want to do with my senator. I've been very indecisive. I want to see the Senate write ups before I decide completely but my latest idea is a Mon Cal ambassador who is trying to get Mon Cala into the BA. Motives would be threat of the Sith being so close and want of better trade opportunities etc. What do y'all think?

I think that'd be cool.

Especially because I want to see that process (which the TT worked out) in action.

I really want to RP a Mon Cal and I also want to see that process work or at least attempt it. I think I will go that route. If you want to switch me to ambassador of Mon Cala on the OP feel free to. On that note it also means I won't be applying for the FL position like I was considering since my BA character wouldn't make a good supreme commander and obviously an ambassador can't be a chancellor.

Mon Calamari is on the opposite side of the galaxy. Like other side of the Sith dominion from the Republic far away.

Not really. It's far from the core worlds but its only one non red block away from Sith territory. And not terribly far from BA space.

I brought this up to the TT so we can explore a bigger question.

Master, I'll keep you down for both for now, at least until we can work out the question in the TT.

--

So everyone knows, I did submit my application to be Faction Leader today. I have a lot of excitement for both the Republic and the Border Alliance, which I was able to channel into my work in the Think Tank, and I would love to continue to contribute to our new faction in a variety of capacities. Regardless of faction leadership, I am excited to help our writers explore the new timeline, these new and engaging factions, as well as their own characters. I fully support others who are interested in applying, and I continue to encourage anyone who has questions or wants to discuss factional leadership with me to do so.

If you have any ideas for the faction that you'd like to share, or if you'd like to talk about what I aim to do, I'd be happy to chat.

For everyone's added benefit, I am going to disclose my application in the hopes it might stimulate some meaningful dialogue about our faction and where it is heading. Please note that I removed the section about AFLs, as I discussed particular candidates and do not think it's appropriate to disclose that nor am I guaranteed any appointments of AFLs by the Administrators (if I even get selected as FL!).

Which faction are you applying for?
  • The Old Republic
What makes you suited for the role of Faction Leader? Be specific.
  • I have some limited experience as a faction leader. Despite those limitations, I am confident that my team and I grew and developed the faction, and that we were well on our way to creating an interesting, dynamic story that offered roleplaying opportunities for a wide range of characters. In addition to that, I have a wide range of leadership positions and experience in the educational and non-for-profit sectors that I can apply to the faction.
How well are you at discussing and resolving matters, especially those involving conflicts of interest?
  • Conflict resolution between members was one of my favorite parts of being a faction leader with the Jedi, and I think I have a clear understanding of conflicts of interests and how they effect stories and writers. I believe I have the capability to be fair and handle matters in a polite, professional manner. I also recognize there will be times I won't feel comfortable handling something, whether it be a murky disagreement between a friend of mine and a member or a disagreement with me as a writer, and I think that having an effective AFL team is crucial for those moments. I have done a lot of thinking about that - which is a topic for later.
Can you work fairly with other factions leaders? Can you organize events with your faction that may not necessarily be victories or net gains?
  • Although I can get fired up (energy is good?), I think that most of my co-workers and peers find me fun to work with. Truly, I'm more interested in the community of SWRP and the greater story than my "personal success" on a roleplaying website - so I believe I am well positioned to creating interesting stories and the potential for challenging dynamics for our members, including facing losses in battles, campaigns, and on the senate floor.
If you became FL, would you have a preference for who your AFLs would be? Who would they be and why?
  • [REDACTED]
Where would you like to see your faction go in the story? What goals do you personally envision for your faction? How is this different and interesting to what other FLs may offer?
  • From the moment the timeline information was released, I have been excited about the Republic faction. This is my favorite time period in SW, and I relish the opportunity to finally participate in it. I think I have helped lay out pretty clear paths with the TT for the Republic - the Senate will struggle to balance competing interests, (hopefully) immobilizing it, while the Border Alliance fights thrown war-weariness and half-truths to fight the growing threat of the Sith. Not only am I excited for the spin the members put on the story (do things ever go planned?), but I am excited to foster the exploration of a multitude of roleplaying facets: Core v. Rim, inter-Senate politics, inter-BA politics effecting [REDACTED], relationships both political and military with indie factions, interactions with the Jedi. I am not coming into this timeline with an agenda of ideas I will make happen. I am coming into this with direction for the faction - but a fluid direction that can, and I hope will, be swayed with the interests and roleplaying of our writers.
Being faction leader means having relative autonomy over your faction, including setting the direction and the story of the timeline with other FLs. What makes you the most qualified person for this role?
  • I think that my leadership experience, paired with my ability to be a fair and conscience listener, will allow me to lead the faction effectively. I have a real passion for the faction, as well, which gives me the drive and vision to make sure events progress. When I was FL for the Jedi, I was following GABA - who had led the Jedi a long time, and had a very specific idea about what was going to happen. I was caught in-between that vision and the changing landscape of the timeline, and it was difficult to help the faction gain the justification to go to well. Now, starting from the beginning, I am confident that I will be able to help drive the timeline and overall story, while allowing for members to contribute in decision making and directional changes.
How much time can you dedicate to the position? Can you ensure that you will be able to consistently organize activity for your faction? Are you willing and able to dedicate the time to drive the story without staff involvement?
  • I have the time. I do not have the time to singlehandedly lead the faction, to independently drive the timeline forward, and to roleplay interesting characters. I do have the time to facilitate and effectively lead a team in doing that. My leadership style is not top-down: it relies on a collective that has responsibility to one another, and in my opinion, that allows for a greater expression of vision/expression and more interesting and effective leadership. That doesn't mean I won't be very active, and fulfill my requirements as a faction leader, but it does mean that I will rely on the people around me to help me lead the faction to the best of my/our abilities.
Do you understand and accept that, by becoming FL, you will be leading the faction that was developed by the think tank, and the staff will be tightly regulating any changes made to how the faction is set up and organized?
  • Yes. It was helpful that I was a part of the discussions and wrote the write-ups.

Ok thanks. I assume the bigger question is what might constitute a planet as being too far away for the process. Honestly I can see some planets as too far away but if the process is only for boardering planets it seems to me the kind of defeats the purpose, that just my 2 cents anyways. I would appreciate it if you could let me know as soon as the TT has decided, if you are able of course, whether I can attempt the process with Mon Cala.

I won't be able to, but it'll be a part of the write-up in the rules for expansion, which will be released with enough time for you to be ready for the timeline.

Hello my friends, Mr.BossMan here.

As some of you may or may not know I'm running the Sector Rangers while Loco is away. Basically I'm the AFL for the time being. Now for those of you who don't know, the Sector Rangers are a Law enforcement agency tasked with the responsibility of upholding the Republics laws and apprehending Republic criminals. All of this is done IC, from investigation, apprehension, trial and detainment. We pride ourselves in being elite space cops. :)

The problem is, however, we are a small organization. Under funded, under staffed and unappreciated by the Republic as a whole. That is why I need YOU senator. The Sector Rangers need a senator or a group of senators that are willing to stand by them with their support via votes, Republic resources, fund raising, anything and everthing your character can provide.

So who wants to help the Sector Rangers, help you?

Edit: Aaaaaaaand I forgot the link so here y'all go http://www.thestarwarsrp.com/forum/index.php?threads/dawn-of-the-republic-sector-rangers.63230/
