This wasn't Duke's normal type of job but they had no else to do this and regrettably he was stationed for it, along with another unlucky Ranger that he hadn't met yet. Prisoner transports were usually one of the most boring things a Ranger can do. It could be a multi-hour drive where you just sit there and watch what passes by your window and that pretty much be it as the convicts in the back insult the guards in ways people didn't think possible. But it was work and Duke could have used all the money he could get at the moment, his shabby place on Nar Shaddaa now finally starting to show some wear and tear and in need of repairs.

He pulled up to the station with an escort from another officer, giving the man a nod of thanks before stepping out into the pouring rain. Duke had a trench coat on over his clothes and tightened it around his body, trying to prevent the rain from soaking him to the bone as he crossed the short distance and entered into the garage of the station. There was a huge and a sort of armored truck, a line of people dressed in orange with chains around their extremities slowly waddling into the back of it. Duke approached a nearby officer with a clipboard, "This all of them?" The guard looked up from his clipboard at the man, instantly recognizing him as a Ranger and nodding, "Yup, all fifteen of them. You guys should have a fun time."

Duke reached over to the clipboard and took it, flipping through pages until he found their destination. "We're taking them to Elm Street?" There was some shock in his voice. Not only was it far, but they would have to press through a few seedy and crime littered districts to reach it. The officer just nodded as he kept his eyes on the prisoners, "Some sort of block up through the main route. The higher-ups want these guys transported quick so it was the best that could be done." Duke just handed him back the clipboard with a sigh following it, "That's just great."

It was the officer's turn to ask a question as he peered at Duke, "When's your partner showing up?" The Ranger checked his chrono before the entrance of the garage, "Should only be a few minutes."

As if almost on cue, Jon emerged from the rain and stepped up to the armored truck where his partner and the officers were waiting. Hands his pockets, shoulders slightly hunched as he tried to make a slim profile to stay as dry as possible, he stopped besides Duke and shot a glance upwards towards the sky with a slight grimace on his face. He didn't like the rain, at least not when he was sober. And he was about as sober right now as possible. He tried his best to not be drunk on the job, some of the few moments when that happened actually. Though that didn't mean that he wasn't sporting a little bit of a hangover, and the rain wasn't really helping with that.

"I'm here," he said as he inspected the inmates, "no need to wait." Hearing that the officer nodded and gestured to one of the guards keeping watch on the inmates, who began to herding them into the truck. "Alright," he said to Duke, forgoing any introduction, eager to get the pleasantries out of the way, "let's get this over with shall we?" Without waiting for a response he moved into the garage, shaking his coat once inside in a futile attempt to try and dry down a little. All he managed to do was spray the surrounding guards and convicts with water. Well, if he was going to sit through this charade wet and miserable then so should they.

As Duke stepped up, Jon glanced sideways for a moment, his eyes on the last of the convicts about to get into the truck. "Fair warning, I'm not armed. So if anything goes south you're the one who'll have to take the shots." As he said so he noticed the last convict, a hulking Rodian with a nasty scar on his face, Scarface he was gonna call him, look up and give him an interested glance. Had he heard him? The rain and the slight throbbing pain in the back of his head had made him careless. That was information best not shared with the felons they were supposed to be keeping an eye on. But what would it matter, they were shackled and secured, not like they could do anything. It wasn't like the rain was going to short out some of their restraints and give them a chance to spring a prison break. Or truck break to be precise. That only happened in holos. This was real life. A very wet, and irritating real life.

The fellow Ranger arrived on cue, escaping from the rain by entering the garage and immediately skipped introductions and went on to inspect the inmates. Duke just watched Jon before nodding with him as the inmates were ordered to move into the truck. His partner still didn't introduce his name, which he didn't mind, it did make this process a lot faster of getting on the road without any side conversation. Jon flicked his coat and the water on it to splash the guards and inmates, making even Duke smirk to himself, he had character even if he didn't say much.

As the two watched the inmates being shuffled into the truck that's when his partner decided to reveal that he didn't carry a weapon. Not only that but he mentioned it when all the inmates were still not fully in the truck and one most likely was able to catch it. Duke just slowly turned his head to Jon and stared at him for a few seconds, "That's not something that you just say out loud." Even though they were secure, one of the guards for them not having a weapon could have them begin to get some indecent thoughts. Once they were all loaded up, it was time for them to head out.

Duke glanced around at all the others before waving a single finger in the air in a circular motion, "Let's rollout. You know what to do." Everyone got moving and that left just him and the other Ranger. "Since I don't get a name, you're Whisky now." It would be easy to figure out how he came up with it. " You get shotgun with me, if it goes south, you'll make a good distraction." He gave Jon a pat on the shoulder before walking over and getting into a parked speeder. It would just be them riding behind the transport as they didn't want to draw too much attention, especially going down Elm Street.

The transport started up as its headlights shone bright and pierced through the heavy rain. It was time to go down the highway of hell.

Jon couldn't really deny the truth behind Duke's words. He had slipped up, a rookie mistake at that. So he just nodded in acknowledgement as he watched the remaining inmates get on, even in failure he was not one for words. He had always thought himself to be in control on the job, but you couldn't really be 100% sure, could you? There were always doubts gnawing away at the back of his mind. Was he slipping? Was he actually letting the drinks control him instead of the other way around? What if he was under their influence without even realizing, he had seen more than one addict mess up even when not under the influence. The longing for another hit was almost as bad as the hit itself. At the moment it didn't even register to him that he had just referred to himself as an addict, in times to come he would hope that he had.

The name though, that brought a smile to his face, a rare event that had probably filled his quota for a month or two. As Duke hit him on the shoulder on his way to the speeder, Jon pulled out a and rolled cigarra from one of the pockets lining the inside of his jacket, thankful that the rain hadn't managed to seep in all the way to it. Lifting it, he began following after Duke and got in. He offered one to Duke, holding out the small elaborate case filled with predestine hand rolled cigarras. You didn't make much as a Ranger, but what little he did make was spent on drink and smoke. So for Jon to offer up one of his precious cigarras was a pretty big deal, but given the situation he thought that it was justified. If he was about to get them killed because of a slip up then at the very least he ought to ensure that the man was going out in a high. Not an actual high off course, those cigarras he kept at home and shared with no one.

"It's going to be a long night, hold onto one in case you need to stay up." Having said that much, he decided he might as well get it out over with at once. "So what dragged you into this shit detail? Who did you piss off?"

Duke with have a little while to answer, but that window would soon be ending as a blip would show up on the speeder's central console, someone behind them, and gaining fast. In a situation it was easy to guess what that might mean. "Unknown bogey on our six, eyes sharp people." He sent the order on the comms shared with the officers on the truck, before momentarily turning off the comm and turning to Duke. "Looks like trouble, you ready?"

Once they got into the vehicle, Jon offered a smoke and Duke glanced at it for a second. He didn't really know whether he was a smoker or not. He never went out and bought packs on his own dime but most other people in the force were heavy smokers and sometimes would ask him to join in. But he did know when a Ranger offered you a smoke, you took it, a quite generous courtesy among those in their ranks.

"Thanks, appreciate it."
Duke slipped it into his jacket pocket, keeping it there for later in case this night proved less than fruitful. When asked who dragged him into this detail, he couldn't help but laugh, "Can't blame no one but myself. I'm actually stationed here, so, quite used to it by now." It was his turn to ask a question, "What about? Usually takes longer before a begrudging Ranger decides to come out here and help." There wasn't any hostility in his voice, he in fact didn't even blame them for dragging their feet.

That's when a blip on the center console appeared, Jon taking notice instantly and reacting. He gave a warning before asking if he was ready, which caused Duke once more to look over to him slowly, "I'm the one with gun out of both of us. Are you ready?" At least he could fight back unless Jon planned on fist fighting someone if they tried something. Duke wondered who would win between the big guy and Jon.

The blaster pistol rested on Duke's lap, ready to be drawn in a quick manner if things got hot too quick even though he was a little skeptical. They had just pulled out of the station and an attack that quick would have drawn the other police officers even if they were on someone else's payroll or not. "Wait a minute," Duke murmured and when the speeder closed in enough, he flipped on the police lights with the siren for the full effect. The speeder that approached quickly just as fast hit the brakes, turning down another street and getting out of the way of police business. Most people didn't give a damn about the rules on Nar Shaddaa and that reflected in their driving too. "We're good, at least for now." The lights and siren were turned off.

They kept following behind the transport, keeping a respectful distance as the rain poured down harder. "You ever do a job like this? Or you one of the more detective type Rangers?" Duke noticed two schools of thought, some Rangers acting like Marshalls and partaking in most police activities or there were the others who acted more like detectives, solving the higher-profile cases that still needed to be solved like everything else.
