Did not see anyone post it here, but, reportedly, McGregor said this:

“I’ll say it publicly, here, now. I’d be happy to do the story between Episode III, that I finished in, and Episode IV that Alec Guinness started in. I think that would be good. Disney should definitely do that.”

I'm not too sure about the veracity of the quote (found toward the end of the article) but I will say that I have seen it on multiple sites just by searching his name.

If that is true, and Disney does do it, I'd be down. It'd be cool to see the character start transitioning from McGregor's to Guiness' Kenobi in terms of mannerisms.

The quote is indeed accurate. He's said it many times in the past as well.

Lots of fans have said they would also be down to see Ewan play the ghost of Ben Kenobi in the sequels if the character was needed. He seems somewhat resistant to that idea, though, because of how it'd suddenly be his face (even with old man makeup) instead of Alec Guinness'. However, he has said a lot in the past that he would like to play Obi-Wan between Episode III and Episode IV.

I take it he's not a fan of the Hayden Christensen force ghost then. But in all seriousness, if he was going to be brought back into the series at some point, I'd much rather see him during the post-ROTS era than as a ghost. If they do decide to include him in this latest trilogy it should be as an old hologram recording (as he was shown in Rebels) and simply leave it at that.

Well, whether he likes the Hayden change or not (and I'm guessing he would never say anything against that, considering he and Hayden always seemed to get along rather well), it would be odd for a young ghost to appear after three movies of an older ghost.

I think he's just weirded out by the idea of playing Old Ben. He sees himself as a bridge towards Alec Guinness, and has always expressed a sense of great reverence towards Guinness' portrayal. So if I were to guess, I would guess that Ewan would be fine playing Obi-Wan until he becomes the Alec Guinness character, at which point he would need some convincing to go any further in the timeline.
