If you have anything you want to see changed, anything you want to comment on or ask about, etc, you can do it here. If you're not comfortable posting here, my PM box is always open. You can also PM the other Galactic Alliance leader.

I'm very open to ideas and I appreciate all the ideas you guys have PMed me already. The Galactic Alliance's mission thread, and simulator, wouldn't be so big without all your ideas you sent in. So, once again, thank you very much for all your ideas and support.

I was wondering what types of ships the Navy had, but i didn't see a list or any in the technology thread. Are you planning on making a list or something? Its not super important, i was just wondering what they were.

Yup, I plan on getting a list up sooner or later. Most likely later, though.

That doesn't tell me why you want them, why we should consider making another branch, or anything useful at all... :P

Ok, Special Forces from an OC perspective: adds more interesting missions and such.

IC: Adds the Special Forces to insert behind enemy lines, explode stuff, shock troops etc.

For OOC purposes, GAIA is fulfilling that role to an extent. Sabotage, infiltration, and all that jazz is the basics of their missions. Besides, SOLAG last timeline was a hit for the Republic. So much of a hit that it took away from the rest of the faction. Introducing something this early with the potential of crippling the faction in other areas is most likely not going to happen.

Is this political satire? :CStern Not funny. This is the sort of attitude the American government has.

:CSly

Well, given that in the future Battles may occur which need to be geared towards squad combat, and not just epic division level battles, Special Forces would provide for squad level combat while still maintaining some strategic importance. (Sabotaging a shield generator prior to a major battle, the outcome of which determines factors for the upcoming battle)

I think special forces would better be implemented as a "club" for non-commissioned troops (and Lieutenants who don't want to advance). As I haven't been around for the previous timeline, and don't know how things go (though I pick up fast enough) I'd like to see more work going into preliminary RP prior to major battles. Say Skirmish at Yinchorr is success, then Galactic Alliance invades and that success makes the battle easier for GA. Or Skirmish fails, and GA have more obstacles. Though, then major RP's could be delayed because they're contingent on the success or failure of an RP which may or may not be stalled.

THEN AGAIN, anyone can sign up for battles regardless of being Special Forces or not, and having the label special forces won't make you have any more ease in making or not making missions for special forces oriented characters.

The problem I see with Special Forces is that, as Gambler said, they seriously reduce the number of potential recruits for the regular military. [GAIA is an intel agency; it caters to a wholly different pool of RP'ers and so I don't consider it to be any sort of issue in terms of nicking potential army recruits.]

However, the problem with the regular military is that very few people want to be 'grunts'. I'd all but guarantee that most role-players want to be 'Special Forces', because we've all seen movies like Triple X and Black Hawk Down and Navy SEAL's and The Rock, and a lot of us have played Call of Duty and whatnot. RP'ers tend to see SpecOps as the be-all, end-all to any conflict, and that leads RP'ers to abandon the regular military the moment specops is introduced.

Plus, people just don't want to be soldiers most of the time. It is very, very rare that I see someone make an honest-to-goodness soldier with a deep and fascinating backstory. Most of the time, they're just disposable PC's meant to get an RP'er into a battle, imo. [Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.] Soldiers aren't popular, that's just the way it is.

That said, Xyrael hit on an excellent point. With the way we're trying to get the battle system to work this timeline, the GA wouldn't suffer at all from a lack of regular troops if they had an overabundance of Special Forces. Since the fighting focuses on small units, not armies, there's no practical difference [from an ooc standpoint] between sending a regular soldier into battle and sending a specops guy into battle.

Of course, Special Forces also cater to a more niche crowd, albeit one that's broader than the people willing to make cookie-cutter soldiers. If the GA wants to make a successful, thriving special forces faction that'll bring in plenty of forces without turning into another SOLAG, they should create a sort of 'Open Door' special forces team. Something that can bring in all sorts of scumbags; Smugglers, thieves, pirates. Folks who're more fearful of imperial oppression than Alliance law enforcement. Mix them in with special forces troopers and exceptionally talented regular troops, and pow. You've got an agency that caters to a wide crowd and can still lay the hurt down on the GA's enemies.

Or, more easily, a SpecOps branch could be application only. I think my idea'd bring in moar people, though.

xD

Anywho, I'll slink off now. Sowwehs for babbling. :3

I *would* like to see Bounty Hunters employed by the GA in support of wars. Would be interesting and give Indie characters something to do besides shoot each other in open threads.

I talked more about the SpecOps idea on msn with a few people. I have to say I like the sound of the 'Open Door' special forces. I'll think about adding one. In the mean time, if anyone has any more specific ideas(a name for it, etc) in mind for a SpecOps branch, let me know. Continue to post them here if you want.

I'll think more on that too.

That reminds me: we have an indy character category in our mission thread, we just haven't added any missions to it yet. If anyone has any ideas for missions for that category, please send them in. I'll also try to write up some later this week.

Trying out a pureblood soldier I think would be an interesting challenge, but with the shortened character count, I don't have a space for one.

You better be sorry. :CIsee

True. Would allow us to finally do something with those characters. However, once we start doing this, I can guess the Empire will soon follow in suite.

Alliance Special Operations Legion: ASOL (pronounced A**hole).

On a serious note though, maybe...

Special Alliance Intervention and ________ Troops: SAINT

Well, I was going to brainstorm some ideas for Xeno later. If I think of any Alliance ones while doing so, I'll forward them to you.

EDIT:

Or AION: Alliance Intervention Operations Network, symbolically going well with GAIA, whom Aion was a consort of.

Would favor something remotely close to Alliance SpecForce in the Rebel Alliance times. I actually had an Infiltrator made anticipating it... thankfully the character that replaced him was much better.

If you do make any type of Special Forces, you can count on me to make a Dexter Jettster(whatever his race is)heavy gunner. Why have one blaster cannon.. when you can have TWO?

.. now I really want to make him.

I know I'm not a member of the GA but was wondering how the implementation of the jedi into the GA was going.

If you make Spec Ops, I think I'm gonna facedesk and laugh until I pass out. Just sayin'.

As for suggestions, I'd say find a way to make the military more appealing.

Thanks for the name ideas, Weiss.

I know I'm not a member of the GA but was wondering how the implementation of the jedi into the GA was going.

We were role playing out the Jedi's integration into GA, but one of the role players stopped posting. I tried multiple ways to get into contact with him to see what was up but he doesn't seem to be responding to anything.

I may have to skip over the role playing of it and just oocly announce we're integrated. I may do that pretty soon. Sorry about the delay.

Was there any point in this post at all? If you're going to post feedback, please be constructive instead of insulting for no reason.
