Force Light
Force Light — also known by the names Cleanse Mind and Force Resistance — is a power granted by the Light Side of the Force for both offensive and defensive use against other Force Users or Dark Side corruption. This power is manifested in multiple ways, with practitioners able to negate mind-affecting Force abilities, shield oneself against offensive Dark Side powers, and even generate withering blasts of Light Side energy. Force Light is the ability to utilize the Light itself so that no darkness can touch the user.

Known Applications
While all Jedi are immersed in the Light Side and all their uses of the Force are guided by it, seeing the Light wielded as an ability on its own was not so common. At its basest and most simple use, the discipline and fortitude of a Knight allowed them to call upon the Force to cleanse either their own mind or another’s from a mind-affecting Force power. If an enemy continuously attempted to mentally afflict them, then it would drain more strength and require more concentration from the Light sider to counteract it. (Level 1)
As one’s discipline and power grew in the Force, Force Light allows the Jedi to even further enhance their protective power. Their resistance of the Dark Side could become so potent that they would be nigh-immune to debilitating effects that induced fear, disorientation, loss of senses, or even paralysis. (Level 2) As with cleansing one’s mind, continual effort and greater focus is needed so long as the enemy keeps attempting to break through the resistance.
Only Council members of the Order (and those of similar strength) — capable of wielding the Force with incredible power, unshakable discipline, and intense focus — have ever been known to use Force Light to its fullest potential. Being so immersed in the Light, they unlock the potential to use this power offensively, using it to either purge or contain the Dark Side in people, places, or artifacts. (Level 3) Utilizing Force Light in such a method would permanently diminish or destroy the darkness — akin to shining a light upon a shadow.
The Light manifested in withering blasts of differing sizes and strengths. While mechanically very different, the nature of the attack was similar in execution to that of Force Flash. Generating from the Jedi’s hand and expelling outward, it created a “god-ray” or flashlight effect, projecting outward and weakening in strength the further distance it traveled. Although generally a singular burst of energy, it could be channeled continuously to further increase its strength, size, and effectiveness. As utilizing such power requires total alignment with the Light, it is an intricate ability that requires more focus than that of many other Force disciplines.
The effects on victims of these blasts of Light Side energy varied, depending on how much they were corrupted and supported by the Dark Side’s power. Sometimes this action could be fatal if the Dark sider was nothing more than a husk, incapable of living without the aid of the Dark Side. With the darkness completely expelled, it often left other users feeling empty and weak if their reliance on the Dark Side was near-constant. Victims often felt a burning sensation as they were being bathed in the radiance of the Light Side, such that no darkness could exist in its presence.

Limitations and Drawbacks
Despite being one of the most powerful abilities that a Jedi can manifest, doing so requires unparalleled connection to the Light. The user, being entirely unmovable in their faith, is able to direct the Light Side through them to purge any trace of taint as it is unleashed. Such an intricate action, requiring greater focus than many other Force abilities, could be disrupted through a break in concentration or even intense temptation from the Dark Side. Even a slight waver in a Jedi’s faith would cause them to be unable to call upon the Light Side to this extreme. While increased mastery of the technique would greatly augment a Jedi’s strength in focus and conviction, concentration was vital to the power’s manifestation.
Force Light was also limited in that it was only effective against places, objects, or living creatures tainted by the Dark Side. While protecting oneself or others against debilitating powers from Dark siders was not limited in such way, using the pinnacle of the ability would be useless against a non-Force sensitive.
While cleansing another’s mind or actively resisting adverse abilities was not taxing in and of itself, it would become so if an opponent persisted in their mental assault. Another drawback to resisting an attack was the power’s inability to defend against physical Force abilities, such as lightning or pyrokinesis. The offensive application of Force Light, when being used to cleanse a large area of taint (such as a temple hall) or banish an immensely powerful Sith Abomination (such as a level 4), was incredibly taxing to the user.
Learning
Force Light at its base form was not a difficult power to learn, however finding masters or books to study from is not easy. Demonstrated by few masterful Jedi, sacred texts, or even by holocrons, the ability is not as common among Jedi as Oneness or Plant Surge. It is impossible to find a Jedi utilizing this ability who is on the brink of completely falling to the Dark Side. Those who have been tainted even once, regardless of Level, find Force Light to be very difficult to use, even at its early stages.
Learning the most powerful manifestation of Force Light takes years, if not decades, to master. Continuous and frequent meditation, centering one’s being in the Light, and actively adhering to the Jedi Code are all essential to its use.
Intent
Seeing as this ability was used in Legends, but not Canon, I decided to do a writeup on the Force Light ability while adding some lesser versions of it for Jedi. It’s commonly known that the Light Side, at its strongest, is more powerful than the Dark Side. This is an excellent example of such, as Light in its purest form purges out the Dark.
The ability is based off of three Legends abilities [1][2][3], and with some deliberation and research I decided to write out some guidelines for us to use here on SWRP.
