Rank and Command Structure

The following is the rank and command structure for the Galactic Alliance Army and the Alliance Special Forces:

General
The highest active rank in the Galactic Alliance military and in the Galactic Alliance Special Forces, they answer to the Jedi Council, Jedi Masters, and other equally ranking associates; these few command and advise Jedi knights and padawans and other military personnel as necessary. Generals lead the course of entire battles on the ground. The most excellent and decorated officers, these top tier soldiers carry the most responsibility and retain the sharpest of strategical minds. Generals command division-sized and larger elements.

Colonel
The second highest rank, just below general, respectively, these officers are given charge over their specific regiment. In their position they lead and make tactical decisions within and supporting of their Commanding Officer's orders. Colonels face real-time decisions of difficult reality, leading their forces with a certain amount of autonomy as best to serve the larger picture. Colonels command battalion- and brigade-sized elements.

Captain
The second rank of the commissioned officer corps, Captains have proven themselves above the common soldier, displaying a greater physical aptitude within intelligent decision making. They command company-sized elements, and are the rank which most often liaises with the Jedi. Captains are expected significantly more independence than even Lieutenants and Sergeants, able to dictate the course of battle in ways even Generals can't.

Lieutenant
The first rank of the commissioned officers corps, lieutenants are most often green kids fresh from the academy but are sometimes sergeants who bucked for commission. The troops tend to hold the academy kids in less esteem than they do the prior service veterans. Leading their lesser forces, they focus their command on executing smaller, more specific, tasks. Lieutenants typically command platoon-sized elements. In this role, Lieutenants are in position to provide field intelligence to their Commanding Officers for decisive adjustments and orders to be made.

Sergeant
The senior grade of non-commissioned officer, a sergeant serves as a field supervisor to troops in their regiment. Generally specialists in their specific field and professional soldiers rather than short-termers, these leaders are the most hands-on of all ranks and have experience to back up their authority. Sergeants are able to command squads up to fifteen soldiers. Sergeants are the backbone of the military, providing a core cadre of experienced, veteran soldiers that their juniors can look up to and the officers can rely on to accomplish the mission.

Corporal
Those who are trained, and are beginning to come into their own as soldiers are promoted to the rank of Corporal. Traditionally, this is upon the completion of a specific specialty training. As such, Corporals complement squads in very specific ways, and are a valuable resource. Corporals are a junior rank of NCO, and as such typically lead a fire team or similarly-sized element.

Private
Composing the majority of the Galactic Alliance military, privates of SpecForces have stood out since entrance into the Galactic Alliance Army. Though a novice in their given field, a private has completed boot camp as well as entry training they need in order successfully follow through in given tasks and assignments. Therefore, a private is fully qualified in whatever their chosen area of expertise may be.

The following is the rank and command structure for the Galactic Alliance's Starfighter Corps: Rogue Wing and the Galactic Alliance Navy:

General/Admiral
The highest officer rank one can achieve and is usually given to senior officers, generals and admirals are in command of the starfighter corps and/or naval fleets and are responsible for the decisions made through the course of battle. Commonly, a general or an admiral are the most decorated as well as the foremost expert in space combat. They work closely with the Jedi Council, more specially with the Battle Master and the Grandmaster in order to ensure proper distribution of orders to subordinates under their command.

Wing Commander/Commodore
A rank of wing commander/commodore is the second highest officer rank an individual can achieve. An expert at their skill set, a colonel or commodore may take charge up to several starfighter squadrons and/or naval fleets and are able to take command if higher ranking COs are absent. Their experiences in the field truly stand out from the rest and are highly relied on for precise and intelligent decision making as well as their natural finesse in starfighter/naval combat and strategy. A Wing Commander, as the term implies, typically commands a wing of six starfighter squadrons. A Commodore typically commands a capital ship.

Squadron Commander/Captain
The second rank of the commissioned officers, a squadron commander/captian is given the full responsibility to directing their squad or fleet. They are competent in leading while following orders from superiors and directing lesser COs in assignment. Squadron commanders/captians are responsible for the successful execution of missions and tactical maneuvers in battles demonstrating their knowledge and skills in full potential. Captains typically command capital ships. Squadron Commanders typically command a squadron of twelve starfighters.

Flight Officer/Lieutenant
The first rank of the commissioned officers, the flight officers/lieutenants have distinguished themselves from the common pilot. Flight officers/Lieutenants have either gained their training and education from an academy or have built through experience from their enlisted rank. They show a greater aptitude for intelligent decision making and planning, as well as a heightened sense of leadership. A flight officer/lieutenant is given command only in their superior’s absence with minor assignments; otherwise they are given tasks in supervisory roles in fleet commands and may lead up to three or four starfighters in battle. Some of the more senior Lieutenants command their own ships, typically corvettes and smaller capitals.

Sergeant/Midshipman
As a non-commissioned officer, the sergeant/midshipman continues to master their own skills in order to advance in leadership. A sergeant/midshipman is the second tier of the enlisted rank and is entrusted with the responsibility of a supervisory role making sure their subordinates are able to accomplish the necessary training and assignments to advance themselves. Demonstrating their effectiveness in the successful completion of missions allows for ample opportunity to be entrusted with more task specific assignments given to them by their superiors.

Cadet/Ensign
The rank of cadet/ensign is the first rank of the enlisted; having completed boot camp and being fully trained in the basics in starfighter/naval combat and piloting, a cadet/ensign of Rogue Wing/GAN is ready to dedicate their skills and knowledge to their respective fields. They are still expected to further their training in achieving mastery of piloting, combat, strategy, and other necessary specialty skills.

Galactic Alliance Military Defense and Security

shield_generator.jpg

This post outlines Galactic Alliance planetary security and hyper-lane defensive precautions for use in roleplay and as a reference for vocabulary, force strength, and fleet capabilities. Any created items, roleplay or discussion, will be added as the list expands. Border defense and fleet movement updates can be found in the discussion board of the GA Military.

Planetary Shield

A Planetary Shield (or defense grid) is a large scale deflector shield designed to protect an entire planet from bombardment, falling debris, or other hazards. Small enemy teams can get through.

Hyper-lane Defense Buoy

A Hyper-lane Defense Buoy is a specifically placed device and beacon designed to eject ships from hyperspace travel, acting as security checkpoints for unsuspecting travelers. Additional interdiction fields (or gravity wells) to be placed at random.

Border Patrols

Personnel authorized to patrol and stop or question suspicious characters and activities. Navy "Swift Fleet" quick-call line of defense to be on a constant caterpillar rotation, keeping ships from being targeted by saboteurs and keeping ships at the ready.

Golan Space Defense Platforms

Golan-series Space Defense Platforms have been a hallmark of Galactic Alliance and Republic defense strategy since the Galactic Civil War era. Equipped with a hyperdrive and capable of carrying a small complement of starfighters and a large array of anti-ship weapons, the Golan-series Space Defense Platform is a capable, mobile defensive station.

Order of Battle

29c8mdk.jpg
[Purple zones indicate rapid response regions for Swift Fleets]

The Galactic Alliance Naval Order of Battle is a simplified representation of the regions in which major Alliance combat fleets operate.
  • Action Fleets are principal combat elements of the Galactic Alliance and consist of hundreds of thousands to millions of vessels, depending on the needs of the sector. Action fleets are responsible for maintaining security in the worlds in their locale, tracking and responding to threats as necessary, defending planets under attack and launching counter-offensives. Action Fleets can be further broken down into elements, commonly called "groups". Combat elements which are responsible for engaging in battles directly, are known as "Space Action Groups", or SAG's. "Carrier Battle Groups", or CBG's, are stand-off support elements which provide long-range fighter support duty for SAG's, escort key personnel and respond to piracy threats, and conduct long-range reconnaissance and surveillance operations. Other duties performed by action fleets, such as underway replenishment, repair, refit and other services, are collectively called "Logistics Groups". These vessels are responsible for ensuring that all combat vessels within the Action Fleet are at peak readiness.
  • Reserve Fleets are typically posted away from the front lines of battle. Operating in large swathes of space, Reserve Fleets duties include reinforcing Action Fleets, conducting routine patrols, establishing and enforcing security checkpoints, monitoring hyperspace travel, combating piracy, and securing trade routes both from raiders and from smugglers. Reserve Fleets typically consist of the Alliance's more outdated vessels, though this is not always the case, and often exceed one million ships in size. Unlike Action Fleets, Reserve Fleets are broken down into Groups only when conducting concerted operations and are usually dispersed across space.
Each Fleet maintains a Fleet headquarters. These headquarters are typically located aboard a command & control vessel, allowing for rapid relocation. Much of the fleets non-combat infrastructure is located towards the Core, though outposts exist in the Rim as well. Headquarters are often well defended vessels and locations with a heavy complement of fighters and security vessels constantly scanning for potential threats. Hyperwave signal interceptors alert the defending units to all vessels entering a star system. These signals are then cross referenced with the Fleet orders, and any unauthorized hyperspace entrances into secure planets are promptly and thoroughly investigated.

The deployments of the fleets are as follows:
First Action Fleet: HQ @ New Alderaan, Engaged @ Boonta
Second Action Fleet: HQ @ Fedalle
Third Action Fleet: HQ @ Anaxes
Fourth Action Fleet: HQ @ Roxuli
Fifth Action Fleet: HQ @ Endor
Sixth Action Fleet: HQ @ Kashyyk
Seventh Action Fleet: HQ @ Taanab

First Reserve Fleet: HQ @ Empress Teta
Second Reserve Fleet: HQ @ Fondor
Third Reserve Fleet: HQ @ Gerrenthum
Fourth Reserve Fleet: HQ @ Corellia
Fifth Reserve Fleet: HQ @ Manaan
Sixth Reserve Fleet: HQ @ Druckenwell

First Swift Fleet: HQ @ Carida
Second Swift Fleet: HQ @ Chalcedon

Galactic Alliance Criminal Database

swtorsmugglers87.jpg

___________________________________________

Hello. Welcome to the Galactic Alliance Criminal Database. For convenience, the database is open to the public, allowing any citizen who wishes to view the profile of any known criminal of note in Alliance territory. Individuals on the list are listed from most to least dangerous based on crimes; their bounties reflect this as well by their size.

Should you see any criminal mentioned in the database, please notify local authorities immediately. Engage at your own peril. The Galactic Alliance holds no liability for any injuries sustained while attempting to apprehend these criminals. Thank you for your time.

The following is a list of all known criminals currently wanted in Alliance space:

Geist Weiss - A highly dangerous sith illusionist involved in multiple accounts of murder of several individuals not limited to those of Jedi and the Galactic Alliance. He is known to have helped in the attacks against the Imperial Knights as well as involvement with the attack on the Empress Teta Jedi Temple. He is very dangerous and should be approached with extreme caution.

Bounty: 10.0 Million Credits

Nathaniel Kariya - He has blown up one or two civilian stations because he could, sabotaged several planetary defense facilities from within, sold information about weapons projects that the alliance have, stolen arms from the alliance and sold them on the black market. Blew up the fleet he was stationed in during his time in the PMC, stole even more military grade items from them, sold some of it, kept the rest. He was special forces before, sabotaged several missions, betrayed his unit.

Bounty: 5 Million Credits

Ichabod Jayce - a Sith, who has been acredited with the design, and possibly the scheme itself, of the bomb that destroyed the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Last seen on the planet Yashuvhu, Ichabod expressed his fixation of Jedi Master Ayva Starfall. Jayce is a war criminal and considered extremely dangerous. He is approximately 5'6'', with black hair, brown eyes, and white skin.

Bounty: 100,000 credits

Ranae Tarik - a known smuggler who has operated throughout Alliance Space for the Hutts and other wealthy organizations. Known for disconnected homicides, terrorism, public battery, security hacking, smuggling, and vandalism. Male, tall, shaved head, always wearing black goggles (eyes rumored to be white), and black "battle garb." Footage reveals suspect limping away from the scene. Evidence is not conclusive, though there is a possibility that he has been crippled due to recent events. He is a threat to public safety due to the confirmed murderer of a dock wastes manager on Corellia and suspected murders of security personnel ranging in the dozens.

Update(s): Ranae is guilty of multiple acts of property destruction, murder, and general disturbing of the peace. These new additions to his criminal record originated on Corellia.

Bounty: 84000 credits

Alex Spector: Wanted for theft and treason. He has been known to be brutal with victims that intercept his path. Alex is a human male, brown hair, bluish eyes, heavily armed. He can be found in hubs popular with merchanaries or anywhere were high paying bounties and jobs are handed out.

Reward: 75,000 credits

Rosa Feraan - originally wanted for the theft of a large amount of PMC equipment later sold on the black market. Of all the things that were recovered, the only thing that wasn't apparently sold was a suit of Powered Combat Armor, two high caliber revolvers, and one automatic slugthrower rifle. It is believed by officials that the PCA is either with her or is hidden somewhere. However, initial investigations reveal that Rosa is drifting through the galaxy searching for the killers of her squad and is traveling with a huge crate. She is considered to be armed and dangerous. She also recently killed five men that attempted to destroy the crate that she had been carrying with her.

Bounty: 60000 credits

Galactic Alliance
Alliance Special Forces

671303cd.jpg

"Eventually, empires fall like trees—we are the lumberjax!" -Unofficial SpecForce motto.

Harking back to the days of the Rebel Alliance, the Alliance Special Forces, or SpecForce as are more commonly known, are the best of the best in the Galactic Alliance Army. Specially selected from the ranks of the GAA, SpecForce troopers are well known for their discipline, initiative, skills and dedication to the Galactic Alliance.

All SpecForce troopers undergo a strict vetting process in order to weed out Imperial agents, as well as advanced training beyond the basic and specialist routines of other divisions of the GAA, molding the forces into the hardest, toughest fighting force in the military. Due to the exceedingly high standards in SpecForce training, the vast majority of candidates do not make the cut; however even being elected to take part in SpecForce training remains a significant badge of honor in the GAA, and many troopers go on to lead successful careers in the military.

All SpecForce soldiers are required to undergo basic training which includes open warfare, infiltration, extraction, boarding, breaching, squad based combat, close-quarters combat, combat first aid and training on a wide variety of weapons and equipment. All soldiers in the SpecForce are capable fighters, and are capable of doing the job of any of the men standing next to them.

Upon admittance to the Alliance special forces, which is encouraged as early as the rank of Private, soldiers are admitted quickly into a training program called Advanced Discipline Training (ADT). This sets them at a higher standard than the typical Galactic Alliance Army soldier. Upon completion of their chosen ADT, each soldier within the Special Forces is designated with a "class", and are granted equipment specific to their chosen discipline.

The five disciplines are as follows:

AssaultThe Assault Trooper has a battle rifle, armor, grenades, and typically carries additional tools specific to the mission. His role is as the main combatant, but he is not a simple grunt. The Assault ADT is for the men and women who specialize in warfare above all else, whose sole focus is the taking of life. They excel in succeeding against impossible odds, and are proficient with a wide variety of weapons and skill-sets and is likely to carry heavy weapons depending on the mission.
SniperThe Sniper has a sniper rifle, pistol, and standard battle armor. His role is fire support and precision strikes, making the impossible shots and pulling enemies off of his comrades. The Sniper ADT is not for a lone wolf - it is for those who dedicate their lives to almost superhuman marksmanship with the aim of protecting their comrades-in-arms.
EngineerThe engineer has a battle rifle, armor, and more explosives and pyro gear than any sane man would carry on his person. The engineer is not a sane man: He has devoted his life to not only war, but pure destruction. He can build a bomb out of practically anything, and use it to take out any structure he can get within arm's reach of. The Engineer ADT is also a skillful builder, adept at clearing and establishing airfields, bunkers, and fortifications with little supply and less time. He must also be a competent warfighter skilled in marksmanship, first-aid, and infiltration.
Field TechnicianThe Field Tech has a pistol, armor, portable computer, and a toolkit with lightweight, portable gear designed to get him through both locks and firewalls. He is a slicer, locksmith, and technician, but above all else he is a warrior trained and proficient in engaging the enemy. When the mission requires, the Field Tech is the one who extracts information or takes control of the computer mainframes in order to achieve the objectives. His expertise with computer systems is unparalleled, but he is also adept at combat, infiltration, and espionage.
MedicThe Medic is a god of war who holds the powers of life and death in his hands. Far from a feeble surgeon the other troopers escort into battle, he escorts the enemy into the afterlife while pulling off almost supernatural feats of medical expertise to preserve his comrades. The Medic has an aid bag full of medical supplies, a battle rifle, body armor, and a pistol. His role is a dual one of combatant and battlefield surgeon.

Alliance Special Operations

2zqfyms.jpg

Alliance Special Operations (SpecOps) is reserved for the best and brightest GA recruits. SpeOps units traditionally consisted of two separate entities, Mission Groups and Special Ops Teams. Though due to recent developments in warfare tactics and the Alliances current operational needs the two have been condensed into a single highly effective faction of the Galactic Alliance military.

Alliance Special Operations units operate independently from the Alliance’s command structure these units, answering only to the highest echelons of the Alliance. Due to the high washout rate and intense requirements of the training regimen these units are highly capable and rarely receive or require support from other branches. Authorized to act on the interests of the Alliance without orders from higher up the chain of command many SpecOps teams develop their own operations on behalf of the Alliance without the need to obtain authorization.

SpecOps teams’ most frequent deployment is deep cover missions. Utilizing supply caches already in existence or creating their own networks in order to lay the groundwork for establishing additional rebel cells in new sectors. Special Operations teams focus primarily on bringing chaos and disorder to the opposition. Establishing a foothold within enemy territory and expanding from within, all before the opposing force has a chance to recognize and react.

Rogue Wing
"Impossible is our stock in trade, and success is what we deliver."

Boasting a heritage that can be traced by to the days of the Rebel Alliance, Rogue Wing is a team of the Galactic Alliance's most celebrated, most daring, and most successful starfighter pilots. Originally limited to a single squad, the fame and competitiveness in the starfighter jockey community soon saw the need for a second squadron of ace pilots, titled Renegade Squadron. However, even this did not satisfy the ambitions of the Alliance's best and brightest, and in no short time Rogue Squadron had expanded to a full wing of six squadrons, 72 pilots in total.

The original crest of Rogue Squadron was described as "a twelve-pointed red star with the Alliance crest in blue at the center, and an X-wing at each point of the star," however as the memory of the Rebels faded and the squadron expanded, the insignia later simply became the Rebel crest, painted in red.

Though the Rogues have used countless different starfighter models over the years, the current vehicle of choice is the R-25 Rogue-class starfighter, which was named for the very men who helped design it. However, due to the nature of the Rogues, and their preference to fly single-manned starfighters, the Rogues instead use modified, single-man variants of the design, which are slightly lighter and more agile then their mainline brethren.

Galactic Alliance
Alliance Navy

[Picture to Come]

The Alliance Navy is the tip of the spear of the military might of the Galactic Alliance. Serving not only as the mode of transportation for the Special Forces and Rogue Wing, but also as the first and last participants of a battle. The Navy employs the services of thousands upon thousands of men and women in various roles to helm, command, and maintain the hundreds of vessels that make up the Naval might.

The Navy is responsible for the creation, patrol and protection of the borders that separate the Alliance from its enemies. It also serves as a humanitarian aide fleet when Alliance planets are placed under duress from famine, plague, or attack from other factions in the galaxy.

Over the years, the Alliance Navy's composition was largely of Mon Calamari design. However, due to changes in territorial holdings and technological advancements, the Alliance now adopts a much more diverse range of ships from a wider range of shipyards such as Fondor or Sluis Van.
