Galactic Alliance
Government and Politics

The Galactic Alliance, is the current incarnation of a government that has, in some capacity, existed for over twenty-five thousand years. It has gone through many names: the Old Republic, the Rebel Alliance, the New Republic, the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, and finally its current denomination.

The leader of the Galactic Alliance government is the Chief of State, who manages its day to day affairs through the Office of the Chief of State, an institution comprised of the aides, staff, and governmental organizations directly subordinate to the Chief.

The entire Alliance government is headed by the members of the Office of the Chief of State, among them the High Commander, the Director of Intelligence, Director of Defense, CSF Senior Command, and the Ministers of State and Justice.

The organizations (ministries, departments, military, among numerous others) backing them are [note: these are the organizations relevant to the RP; there are many others with less hands on purposes that have been omitted]: the Alliance Marshals, the Coruscant Security Force, the Galactic Alliance Advisory Council, and the Galactic Alliance Intelligence Agency.

Beneath the Office of the Chief of State is the Senate, the Galactic Alliance’s main legislative body. Composed of representatives from each member world or state, the Senate’s power was curbed under a new constitution (established c. 28 ABY after the Battle of Ebaq 9) by a series of checks and balances that led to a major increase in the executive and judicial branches’ power. Despite these changes, however, the Senate has remained a vital part of the government.

The judicial branch received the greatest increase of power under the new Alliance constitution. The increase of judicial oversight and power was designed to help curb any legislative abuse or corruption, which was becoming increasingly common during the last years of the New Republic.
