Val flexed her fingers, rolling her wrist around to confirm that her joints were healed. She thanked the AI in her armor for facilitating the process, though she largely used the Force to do it. Val exhaled heavily, beginning a slow trek back towards the heat of the battle. She grimaced before stepping into that bubble that cancelled her Force abilities out. However, thanks to the DMS armor, it allowed her to retain superior movement and strength. Val ducked into a hallway, unsure of exactly what she was looking for. It was as if instinct were guiding her and beckoning her, like the sweet smell of a freshly baked pie. It was almost intoxicating, but she couldn't turn away from it. Val absentmindedly followed, oblivious to the tremors reverberating all around her from the aerial assault. She could hear RMC and CARD return the favor, which made her smile beneath her helmet.

There!

He stood there like a beacon, a manifestation wrought of everything that threatened the safety of her children, her family and the galaxy. He was mocking her, insulting her with his casual posture, as if this were merely a stroll through the park. It made her blood boil. At the same time, it piqued her curiosity as to why he indirectly guided her to him. She knew he came here for her. That was an unspoken realization, and she wondered if he felt it as well. Val's slender fingers roamed over the hilt of her katana. The absence of the Force slightly robbed her of the seemingly endless reserves of energy. She knew exertion would be more taxing than usual, but she also knew this suit helped compensate. Val took a few more steps forth, towards this man she already despised. He spoke volumes without saying a word and it made her angry. She left the anger out of her voice, speaking in a tone that only attempted to put her on the same plane of indifference.

"You look lost. May I help you?"

"Why, yes... Perhaps you could help me complete the Holy Trinity: fight, then kill, then ****. Not necessarily in that order." Haveti flashed her one of his grins, stretching his pale skin taut on sharp bones. He turned towards her slowly, flexing one armored hand, curling his fingers around the hilt of the cortosis weave katana that rested at his hip. "You're... Valena, right? Valena Karasu. Wife of the Jedi blademaster, a Jedi Master herself. Two kids, yeah? What're their names again?"

He let his smile turn just a hair more sadistic. "Raziel and Emi, isn't it? How're they doing? You know, back in the Hutt databases, you and your hubby have a pair of nice, long files. I bet when they're a little older, if they get any older, your kids will have some too. I greatly enjoyed reading them... I know a lot about you, Valena. Now that we're meeting in person, you just have to help me get a little better acquainted. For example... Where can I touch you to make you go crazy?"

He wouldn't let her ruin his fun with a little temper tantrum, though. His hand was a blur and his blade a silver flash as he drew it from its sheathe, slicing the air so fast it whistled, and in an instant he had already slipped it back into its scabbard.

"That's called Iaido, dear. Get too close and I'll cut you so fast you'll barely see it, and with your magic tricks conveniently out of stock I don't think I'll have to worry about you reacting." He allowed himself a chuckle.

"Let's get started then. We'll call this class Valena 101." The katana sang darkly as Haveti unsheathed it, hefting it in one hand, artificially enhanced strength giving him a host of unfair advantages over a normal human. But Valena Karasu wasn't normal, even without this fancy armor she had on... That wasn't in the file. He would have to make an addendum after he finished writing her obituary.

Val simply grinned after he spoke. She was unfazed by this, as she had already gotten past the initial shock of learning that Hutts knew much about her. Perhaps Cedos wasn't the only one keeping tabs on her..

"I'm flattered you know so much about me. Though a few flowers here and there signed anonymously would have sufficed."

As he did the small trick of the blade, Val did not move. However, she could tell he would be a worthy opponent. She unsheathed her own katana, the blade hadn't been really used yet. It was obvious the craftmanship was impeccable. Val lowered it to her side, addressing his initial comment.

"Since you know about my hubby, how about you just be a good boy and die so I can go home and top off the holy trinity with a victory **** instead?"

She made no initial movement. A moment later, she began to lazily circle around him, walking with casual steps. The katana's tip dragged against the floor, the metallic noise cutting through the air. Val faced him as she came to stop at a diagonal angle to his left. She tilted her head, smiling.

"Aren't you going to be a gentleman and ask me to dance?"

Hmph. Thought she'd have a bit of a temper... Oh well, no matter.

Haveti watched her intently as she circled around him. He quickly assessed the distance between them, marking it as some two and a half meters. Subtracted from the length of his katana... He could feel each strand of steel wire sinew in his body tense up in preparation for combat. An electric thrill danced up his spine. He hadn't had a kill like this lined up in so long.

"Yes. But enough with this witty rapport, to be honest I'm more concerned with putting your body on display for all these Jedi ****ers to see. You must understand, I don't plan on leaving this temple alive, but neither do I plan on going without leaving behind a hill of bodies."

Leaving no time for a response, he darted up towards the Jedi, closing the distance in an instant. Moving almost imperceptibly slower than he had before, he unsheathed a vibroblade instead of his katana, hefting it in his right hand as if it were a child's toy. Of course, Val wouldn't notice that, if she planned to stop him. He sliced upward diagonally, intending to test her armor by slashing it from left hip to right shoulder.

Haveti was trained to concentrate on his opponent's weakspots. Before that, however, he had to determine what they were...

Val did not move a muscle as he made the approach, lifting the katana off the ground. Decades of sword fighting had taught her to catch even the most subtle of motions. She knew he was a skilled swordsman, possibly someone that matched her. However, now was not the time to ponder on that. As he began the swing, Val abruptly stepped forth with her felt foot to ground herself and swing the katana, gripped in her right hand, laterally to her left to catch his swing before he completed it. The convex of her blade faced his, and their blades would abruptly clash together, with hers layered atop his.

Right after their blades joined, Val slightly pivoted on her left foot, the one she used to support herself, which left the other foot free to spin slightly. As she rounded closer to his left side diagonally, it put his torso in range of her left arm. With her katana still locked above his, Val launched an open palmed attack aimed for the left side of his face. However, this was a feint, enough to convince the enemy, but not enough to where they would extend herself. Meanwhile, her katana abruptly shifted so the convex faced his torso. After a light push downward to lower his blade, Val would slash the katana right towards the middle of his torso horizontally. With any luck, the feint would leave him open to attack and her diagonal positioning to his left would temporarily keep her out of the way of his blade. The entire motion was over in the blink of an eye, a testament to her enhanced abilities despite the absence of Force.

This one's got bite...

Her feint was clever, but Haveti didn't quite fall for it. He knew at the very least that Valena wasn't an idiot, and idiots rarely tried to attack well-armed opponents while engaged in a bladelock. He did have a few tricks up his sleeves, though...

Just a half-second before she pushed down on his blade he acted. The direct neural interface with his armor was something new and exceptional; instantly, with a mere thought, the rollerblades concealed within the boots of his armor deployed. He rolled back, letting his vibroblade drop just slightly, hunched almost as if they were playing hockey instead of fighting for their lives. Valena's katana passed just a few centimeters short of scoring a blow on his armor and no doubt saving Haveti from some nasty bruising.

Before she finished her swing and certainly before she could come back for more Haveti was already in motion, skating quickly around Valena's side. He swung his vibroblade, whirring edge aiming for the nape of Valena's neck. As he came from her left side and her katana was opposite him, at best she'd manage to duck and he'd take a little off the top. At worst... Well, cannibalism had never been one of Haveti's vices, but he thought he'd heard the Gamorrean in his unit mention that on his world human brains were considered a delicacy.

Before Val could retaliate Haveti rolled backwards, with another thought retracting his skates. Balance was precarious on them, even with the light magnetism designed to keep him upright but still allow him to jump if needed. The ball was in the Jedi's park, and this time Haveti didn't plan on initiating.

For seemingly no reason at all, this spectacular song began playing.

Val felt her saber swing through thin air. For a moment she dumbly wondered what the hell happened, but she realized he had skates on! It was something she hadn't seen coming. However, she had to improvise. Val continued with the motion of her swing. As she had already been pivoting, it meant she was in motion before Haveti backed off. As a result, Val simply completed her swing, horizontally slicing through nothing and turning the slash into a 360 degree turn. This was done right as Haveti zoomed to her left. Though she had no skates on, her enhanced speed and natural agility allowed her to keep up. As she completed the swing, her katana clashed with his slightly perpendicularly.

Before she could launch an attack, Haveti was already beginning to move backwards. However, as she had her left foot grounded, leaving her right free (due to her initial pivot), she extended her foot out to hook her heel right below his calf, timed with her swing. Combined with his motion, this was intended to make him trip. As he was moving backwards, this would pose an even more effective disruption to his retreat. Val had to focus on locking blades with him, and her tripping attempt made it so she couldn't launch an attack without losing her footing.

Sweetie, you just pried the lion's mouth open...

Haveti had to admit, he wasn't expecting Valena to react as fast as she had. Perhaps he'd underestimated her agility... But that didn't matter as much as stopping himself from falling did. And he had quite the plan for that. As the Jedi had interrupted him before he could retract his rollerblades, he instead wheeled just slightly to his right, intending to line up their blades a bit better.

He pulled his arm back, lightly enough to keep from aggravating their grapple. When their swords were touching at nearly the center of the blade itself, Haveti quickly jerked his arm around so that their weapons formed a neat plus symbol, his horizontal and Valena's vertical. All that in the same moment she tried to hook her foot just above his ankle because next he would unveil his second trump card... He'd hoped to hold off on revealing it, but he appeared to have underestimated the Jedi's ferocity. He thumbed off his weapon's vibrating edge.

One thought. Mechanical, passionless, but at the same time carrying so much weight: Vents: activate.

Little plasma arcs poured out of the vents on the back of his armor. Valena's foot would be scorched through her own protective suit, if in fact the insane heat of his vents, rivaling those of the Jedi's lightsaber, didn't melt right through and render her leg unusable. More importantly, however, it kept Haveti from being tripped...

Not to mention it propelled him forward at some 10 meters per second, with the way his blade had been positioned keeping him from wounding himself too terribly. At worst, it would cut into his torso armor. But for Valena, unless she could somehow react to an attack that would have covered the distance between them ten times over had she not been in the way, it spelled only bad news.

Unless she let go of her weapon it would split her head wide open and be driven even deeper by the way Valena was lined up to absorb most of the shock when the two impacted the ground together.

Haveti's internal chronometer chimed in. Time elapsed: 1 second. Not bad...

As her foot hooked around his leg, she felt intense heat abruptly shooting against her armor. Val withdrew her foot immediately. The vents had done some damage, but not enough to burn through to her skin. However, because her torso was slightly twisted to allow her to hook her heel back, this put her in an ever so slightly diagonal angling in relation to his position. She was more on his right side. This meant that he wasn't coming at her directly. However, because he was moving so quickly towards her, she couldn't react with a whole new attack.

As she felt him close the distance, Val abruptly dropped down. As he had been aiming for her neck, it left his sword high up. Meanwhile, because Val's sword was positioned vertically, all she had to do was lower it and it followed right through with her dropping down towards a crouch. As he continued approaching, all she had to do was jam her blade upwards. As his sword had been held horizontal, it meant his arm was extended out laterally. However, because he was so close, instead the point of her katana would jam right into his arm pit, an area where armor was usually thinner.

Val dropping abruptly, and him being in full forward motion, would also cause him to trip over her, possibly impaling himself on her katana. However, she did not linger in her position for long, quickly rolling forward to end up behind him and prepare a new attack. His forward motion would allow her to end up behind him without fear of the vents.

Val was certainly quick, but she couldn't catch Haveti that easily even with her new armor. As she dropped he passed by, her katana caught him under the arm, thin but razor sharp tip slipping between the plates of his armor but only nicking the flesh before he passed out of its reach. The powerful thrust from his vents carried him some twenty feet before he managed to cut them off and retract his skates.

He could feel the warm trickle of blood down his side. "I love a girl on her knees! Fancy a go at it?!" he yelled, then hissed under his breath, "Kriffing psychobitch."

He grimaced and took up a stance with his vibroblade again, resolving to simply circle around Valena and draw a bit closer with each step, ending when he came within eight feet of her. This time it was her turn to take the initiative; if he'd managed to burn her, even just slightly, she wouldn't be walking as readily as before, but Haveti wasn't going to take any chances.

Val rolled away as soon as he passed, mainly to avoid the vents that would be facing her. She sprang to her feet right away, knowing that she had done the slightest bit of damage. Val had no idea she had drawn blood, but she knew if he overexerted himself swinging his blade, he would open up the wound even more. She grinned as she overheard him call her a 'psychobitch' under his breath.

"I'll take that as a compliment."

The blade effortlessly twirled in her hand, her wrist moving fluidly. There was grace in every subtle movement, grace that was far beyond normal human standards. She glanced down at her armor, where it was now weaker thanks to the vents. Her skin hadn't been touched yet, but she couldn't afford to expose that leg to him again. Val glanced up at him again, realizing that he had no intention of launching the offensive this time.

"If you insist.."

She sighed as she spoke, lowering her upper body to prepare for the dash. And then she was off, a mere blur of colors. The katana swept up from her left to right, aimed to horizontally swing across his torso at diaphragm level. She knew he would block it, but it was intended to engage them in battle once more.

Theme (excessive swearing; give it a minute before you exit out)

Haveti narrowed his eyes. She wasn't planning on giving up then... And that armor of hers was pushing the bitch beyond human optimum, something he hadn't been expecting in a fight where her Force powers were suppressed. But then, he hadn't expected armor at all. Most Jedi would rather go nude. He thumbed the vibration control on the blade he gripped in his right hand.

She was fast, too. Fast enough to push Haveti, the man whose blade cut like lightning and resounded with the sheer force of thunder. She's coming.

Heartbeat

He erupted into motion at the last second, dodging to his right and her left as she swung. Horizontal, something that could have split his diaphragm and send his organs gushing out like maple seeds out of a pod. But that wouldn't happen; he evaded the edge of her katana and lashed out with his vibroblade, not with force, because to do so would be redundant when its humming edge had only to nick her to inflict lethal damage.

Valena had drawn first blood, but Haveti would make up for it by slashing her pretty neck.

As he dodged around her katana and swung lightly at her neck, he twisted his torso at angle so that he could watch if she tried anything silly. He also pushed off with his foot in a short leap, just high enough so that if she stuck her leg out he wouldn't trip.

He couldn't tell if his sword had found purchase on that immaculate flesh of hers. When he landed, he backtracked a few feet to put distance between them, eager to watch and see if he could move on to his next target.

Val knew she had done a rather basic move when she swung the katana horizontally. It was merely to engage him, and not a real attack. She knew he was a damn good swordsman and wouldn't fall for something simple like that. Val was unsurprised when he dodged out of the way. She hadn't put her entire body into the motion, which allowed her to halt the motion just as her katana was out of reach of him. Val glanced to the side and saw the vibroblade heading right towards her neck as he moved along her left. Before it could connect with her neck, Val suddenly stuck her hand up vertically, the shield attached to the gauntlet on her left arm projecting automatically to ward off the vibrosword. She met his blade perpendicularly. Val began to pivot, facing him. She hadn't put all her momentum into her previous attack, which allowed her control during his evasion. Val caught his gaze as he began to shift backwards.

"Good bye."

It was Val's turn to show him the tricks her own suit of armor could pull. Before the words even left her mouth, a plasma blade projected upward from the tip of the armor on her arm. The blade jutted upwards, up and right through the bottom of his jaw, meant to go through his skull. At this close range, it would pierce through his armor. His slight jump would only further aim the blade at the weaker underside of his jaw, where the armor was usually slightly weaker. In case he somehow managed to find a way out of this, Val's right hand brought her katana in closer to ward off any attacks from his left hand.

Haveti realized his folly all too late. His head filled with the illuminating light of epiphany as Val's shield intercepted his sword. He had a split second to cherish, that infinitesimal half-inch of reaction time as the flicker of blue energy was caught in his peripherals, the snap-hiss of burning ozone and the strange heat as the wristblade caught him under the chin.

Jaw armor saved him from an instant death, the specifications of his armor saved him from a slower one. He was built for these situations, built to last under duress, built so that he would not twist under the heat of a lightsaber anymore. His grip on the vibroblade faltered and it clattered uselessly to the floor, whirring ineffectually, biting into the plaster tile and spraying stone chips in every direction.

The samurai backpedaled, one hand groping at the vicious hole Valena's saber had left in the armor protecting the soft underside of his chin. He had been instants away from oblivion, and now the burning metal oozed and dripped out of a quarter-sized perforation, sizzling as it hardened like tar on the floor.

The Jedi woman reacted instantly, falling on Haveti like a spring storm, peppering him with a flurry of light blows from her katana that the technosamurai was hard-pressed to duck under and dodge, but Valena never left an opening, never gave him a chance to unsheathe his sword. His fists were a whirlwind of motion, pounding futilely against Valena's armor. He could feel every process in his computerized mind, running vector simulators to see where he could land a blow, but she was there to block every time...

And the Jedi were winning. In the distance a soldier's pained cry rang out as a lightsaber seared off his arm above the elbow. Haveti felt no empathy but the barbed thorn of agitation pricked his mind - if they were dying, then what about the ysalamiri? And once it was gone... A mental image of Valena with the Force at her command rippled through his skull.

At that point Haveti's conscience took the opportunity to chime in,

Yo bro, there's not gonna be any better day for dyin'.

Amen to that, Haveti thought, and when Val came in for another blow he also thought vents: activate and felt himself in motion. Without any time to drop, Val took the reasonable approach and thrust her katana forward so that Haveti would skewer himself on it.

And that's exactly what happened.

It tore into Haveti's body with all the grace of a claymore through a swan. That is to say: none. It exited out the other side, effectively making a Haveti kebab that missed his spine by precious centimeters. The samurai grabbed the Jedi by the wrist, pulling himself further along her blade, staining it a wet scarlet. He opened his mouth to speak but all that came out was blood, spattering Val's armor and transparent visor.

With shaking arms he reached up, taking her helmet by the side. He couldn't tell whether she was stunned or genuinely stuck but she made no movement to finish him off; maybe because she sensed no further threat from him, maybe because she was a frightened little bitch, but frightened little bitches don't kill badass samurai so Haveti consciously chose to believe the former.

A crimson rivulet painted his chin in stark contrast to the alabaster white of his skin, but at least this time he could gurgle a few words. "Let's meet face to face." Gently, because he couldn't find the strength to yank it off and get this embarrassing poodoo over with, he lifted her helmet, spilling a cascade of brown hair over the face that moments earlier had been tensed and ready to deal the finishing blow. Now it looked softer, easier, calmer.

Haveti's hands groped at a button on his helmet, causing a portion around his neck to recede. Other parts disappeared as well, visor included, until finally the helm looked more appropriate for a cyclist than a supersoldier. It slipped off his head, clattering to the floor, releasing Haveti's shaggy halo of black hair that ringed his face like a lion's dark mane. His eyes, glowing almost yellow, met Val's blue gaze head-on.

He spared a moment to let the fading fire in his stare make its impression on her. Then his shaking hand found its place on the scabbard, where it had rested so many times over so many years. It drew a tanto, tempered durasteel reflecting Haveti's sorry visage. His flesh had descended into an even more deathly pallor with blood loss. He was suddenly very glad he couldn't see what the inside of his midriff looked like just then.

He reached up, shivering with the cold that had stricken every bone in his body. Val's grip on her katana tightened, enough to elicit a grunt of pain from her dying opponent. With his free hand he pressed a deathstick to his lips. **** if he wasn't going out like a boss, at least.

The tanto blade hesitated a few centimeters from her neck. "Oops... I missed," he sputtered between pursed lips, a few flecks of blood splattering Valena's cheek. He tried to smile but only managed a queer half-pout, which considering the circumstances was probably more realistic, because if there's any time where it makes sense to pout it's when you're dying. Smoke curled up between them, and his hand jerked out to the side, neatly slicing off a sizable chunk of Val's hair.

The tanto slipped out of his grasp, which was now numb, as were all his other limbs. He'd expected dying to be much less painful from all the Republic serial dramas that romanticized the act, and tried to open his mouth for one last stoic one-liner to be passed down through the ages, but all he managed was a horribly not-masculine squeak.

"**** don't let that be the last sound I make," was the last conscious thought he managed as he slipped back, off Valena's katana and onto the cold, cold floor far below. His deathstick slipped out of his open lips. His eyes fluttered for a moment, lingering in the brief interstice between life and death, and then settled firmly on the latter. The last thing hidden behind those lids was an image from a life he had only wished to know, of dragonflies in the swamp behind his village, not yet crushed into regolith by the Hutts that had turned him into this, brought him here.

Too late now.

((OOC: So that Sreeya can finish up Val's storyline, and because like most people I've lost interest in RPing this timeline, this duel is over.

If we had about another two weeks this would have been epic, but we'll make up for it next timeline. ;o;

Modding was approved to make Haveti's death fun. :P))

Val felt her sword drive into his torso, neatly coming out the other side. A look of surprise was masked by her helmet, and the motion drove her to mere inches away from him. She made no immediate movements as he reached for her helmet and removed it. Her hair spilled out immediately, and the stench of blood hit her at once, a reminder that she was fully back to her heightened senses. She could do nothing, her sapphire orbs gazing into his yellow ones, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion. Was this the end? Was this the end she had been working towards? She saw the life beginning to abate from his eyes, the face that was devoid of the culmination of evil she had pegged him to be. That was why she couldn’t move, couldn’t act, could do no more than tighten the grip on her blade. He was content, and for once, it did not bother her.

He was in control till the very end. He did not relinquish any of it, and she could only watch as he brought the deathstick to his lips. The smoke plumed between them, the intoxicating aroma flowing into her nose and traveling up into her head. The immediate effect was one of serenity, and it matched the lazy smile on his face. It was one that taunted her, but she could do nothing about it. She had no desire to do anything about it or stop him. She merely flinched as locks of her hair fell away, all in slow motion. She could only watch the smoke furl, slowly taking shape, forming a connection between them and escaping into her lungs.

The Force was there beside him, almost tangibly in a personified form. The Force rested a hand on his shoulder, gently tugging him back. He gave into it, slowly falling back. It was meticulous, perfect and seamless. It was nirvana, and it was made all the more artistic with the blur of Hutt soldiers behind them. For that moment it was just the two warriors, with the Force itself formulating to carry Haveti away in its arms. It was deliverance, a genesis of sorts. Her mind poured into his like the smoke flowed into her body, exploring the vast caverns of his psyche. She knew his thoughts, as they projected loudly, exploding within her mind. It was not desperate, not forced, but almost peaceful. It was how she would have met death, welcoming it. He had lived as a warrior, and he would die as one.

Val fell atop his torso as he hit the ground, staring up at the ceiling. She did not flinch as an explosion tore the foundations above. She did not glance up as thunder erupted and rain splattered against the windows. She did not look anywhere except his smile, the ghost of which lingered on his face. Val remained for eternity before her own smile broke upon her features. His eyes remained vacantly gazing up, but his presence in the Force had long since left him. She could have sworn she saw him rise up, grasp the hand of the Force and walk away. Val finally relaxed, letting her katana fall to the floor with a clatter. Her hand reached and grasped the deathstick that had dropped from his lips. It was still lit. She put it between her lips, taking a drag and feeling the explosion of flavor overwhelm her. Val closed her eyes, honing in on the sound of rain, over the noise of war. The Jedi had won here, but it did not matter. None of it mattered.

It hit her then. There was no absolution. No winning or losing. There was simply embracing destiny and knowing when you had to walk with the Force. Many had fallen today, and many more would fall. Today was not her day, and she would have to make damn sure not to take it for granted. Val tilted her head to the side to look upon Haveti again. She reached over and closed his eyes, exhaling a cloud of smoke from her lips. After what seemed like hours, she rose from the ground. She cast Haveti one last glance. He looked just as much a warrior dead as he had looked alive. He would never know the sweet taste of wine again, would never feel the gentle touch of a woman again, would never get to hate again. It was finality and it gazed at her, right in the face. She sighed and looked away, though a smile remained on her face. She walked towards the rain, towards the outside, and she knew the fighting had subsided. Val did not look back again, though her words rang out. Haveti would know she was addressing him, wherever he was.

“See you space cowboy.”
