As many of you have undoubtedly noticed, there's an increased number of spambots posting lately, so you're likely to encounter spam posts and/or spam threads throughout the forum. If you do happen to come across one, please do not reply to the post and please do not use Private Messages or Visitor Messages to alert an admin.

Instead, please use the Report Post function. This is an icon in the lower left hand corner of a post that looks like a yield sign. Here's what it is:

It's the one on the left.

Using the Report Post button posts a thread about the spam in the admin board, so the first admin to see it can deal with it - rather than waiting for the admin you sent a message to to log on and see it. This way it's done faster.

Thanks!

Hey Bac, since these bots have a tendency to spam up one topic with a few posts with the same spam, I'm assuming you would prefer only one report per topic? That way you don't get twenty reports for the same topic (unless of course they happen after an admin deletes them)

Definitely one per thread. It'll get confusing if we have 20 reports for the same thread.

most of them are actually backlinking as well..both bots and real people...it's actually a decently paying if not uberly dirty job. just the act of responding bumps them in search ratings " and even with googles new panda update thats suppose to cut that crap out it still boosts them"

long story short multi hits and replies pays the bastards even if you dont click anything.

How about a meme turned into a button that says report... I find serious cat an amusing idea for such a button. =P

Personally, I don't find the current button bad, seeing how I hope never to have to use it. Dunno what the Admins / other people think though.

edit: clarifying my obvious admins, That basically is showing while I can say I want a pig on the banner, and maybe get the whole forum (excluding all the admins) to want a pig, ultimately the admins (which Lucid is one of) decide if there is a pig or there isn't a pig... silly as this example is, it's what I meant

Proper way to report spambots:

1) Pm/Vm Brandon.
2) Use the 'Report' function.
3) Stare at forums for five minutes, refresh.
4) Spambot is gone, Brandon now has a useless PM/VM.
5) Eat sweet foods.

Insanity… ‘nough said. :D

Brandon, perhaps it will be a good idea to include the How to report a spambot announcement under item number one in the General Out of Character Rules thread.

Just a thought for users like me who like reading and adhering to the site rules.

Why in the world did I get two emails about reported posts?

Because as a person, you are spam incarnate. :CRawr

I'm guessing the spam was in your board and for some reason got forwarded to you.

Just add pictures of male genitalia in your PM. The more, the better.
