Yeah, I'm with option one. As important as balance is, I think we must also remember that most of us are here to have fun. Of course, that doesn't mean we shouldn't have rules regarding the power dynamics between species.

I say number 1. I have an elaboration on that but don't have time right now. I will get it up later when I am done with class. But yea I think 1 is best and would actually be a bit unhappy if it ended up being #2. If I understand #2 correctly.

Option number 1 seems the best to me as well.

If you start nerfing species' inborn/biological qualities for the sake of fairness, then you might as well just boil it down even further, go for broke, and SWTOR the deal by saying we can only have X, Y, Z species to choose from, all others are junked because they have abilities that make them unfair.

Alright my reasons for having strong support for #1 and opposition to #2.

Frankly I think number one is better in a freeform writing environment such as this. The galaxy has a lot of unique species with unique traits. IMHO to bring them all to the exact same level and dimension, even if only for pvp, really does do SW or the species justice. Take for example some of the species, including Wookies, that have a high strength attribute. Is it really fair to someone who plays a Wookie to say sorry but in this battle your character is just as strong as the short human. Its not a very realistic way of doing pvp and quite frankly I think it takes some of the fun out of it. The whole purpose is to be able to out write your opponent. Just because one species has an advantage doesn't mean the person that's facing them doesn't also have an advantage of their own.

Tbh I think someone creating a character with a certain species just to simply powerplay is pretty rare. Not to say it doesn't happen. But I think most people create Wookie's, for example, to make use of their strength in RP but not to powerplay. To me there is a big difference from someone who makes a wookiee to be able to use strength as an advantage in pvp because those are the tactics they want to fight with and someone who creates a Gen'dai for its immortality.

Don't get me wrong there are some species that definitely need to be nerfed a bit. But in my opinion there aren't a lot as long as those with "special" abilities aren't abused.

I keep forgetting that exists. Nonetheless I think we should treat species on a case by case basis, though I feel the stipulations should only apply in PvP.

I have to agree with number 1. I am using an Anzat for the sake of the chaos it can create. On the one hand, he can be calm, cool, and collected if he has fed. If the story fits however, I can say he has not fed, making him reckless and willing to do anything to feed I will use the species' weakness to create interesting story lines. My character was going to play mind games with people anyway and that is what Anzati do, so it just seemed a fitting choice.

I've got Theelin right here. Anyone else on the Theelin train?

I also favor option one. As long as you nerf the ridiculous abilities of some species (Firrerreo's healing ability for example) I don't think there would be a big balance issue.
@Diva Tumi I'm also planning a Theelin, a Sith Sorceress.

I want you to nerf all the other species to be as bad as him, though: so option 2

I plan on using a Lorrdian, but I'm not sure if they qualify as an alien species or simply a sub-culture of humanity. Anyways I think I like option #1; I'm all for realism in RPs, and when a Wookiee can't rip off limbs or a Tandoshan can't see his victims in the dark, I think it takes away that realism.

I've now decided I'm probably going to use an Echani, provided they're okay. I can't remember if they've already been mentioned or not.

I was planning on making a Draethos Force User.

Also, Number 2 would be my suggestion. It keeps things simple and boils everything down to writing ability.
