He couldn’t quite believe it. He was actually right outside the Jedi Temple, and it was much bigger than he though. He had just ascended the ancient stairs that lead to the massive structure’s entrance, flanked by four colossal statures of some venerable Jedi Masters of the far past, their bronzium faces glittering as the sun of Coruscant began peeking over the horizon of skyscrapers and thick, curving lines of atmospheric craft going to and fro. The fledgling rays of the new sun shone onto the well-polished surface of the massive double doors that served as the true entrance to the Jedi’s sacred Temple.

Aaliyah Sousa, Verpine Jedi-to-be, was clothed in some older robes that his father had purchased for him from the flea market to wear for his training.

‘It’s a little rough,’ he told his son with a waggle of his antennae, ‘But it will keep you safe and warm for the trials ahead of you…’

The robes indeed were rather rough to the touch, but they did the job of keeping him warm in the chilly twilight hours as he made his way from his modest home to the actual building he stood before. A sudden gust of wind sent a shiver down his spine, or where it should be, as a three fingered first knocked on the door that seemed too big even for a giant.

“H-hello?”

He cried, hoping he wasn’t here to early; he started to get nervous as he banged on the door again.

“Hello I’m here for my training!”

A great rumble that shocked the young Verpine rose from the ground, and made him jump at the suddenness of it all as the two doors parted, and with a soft gasp, he surveyed the interior of the Jedi Temple; massive stone arches with elegantly carved buttresses that ended in long, monolithic pillars that ended at the artful floors, polished to a high shine. Then he saw all the Jedi. Hundreds of robed figures milled about, conversing softly in the cavernous halls of the sacred place, men and women of all species and all ages. Hesitantly he brought himself to enter, his dulled claws clacking against the floor, and as soon as he entered, the doors shut behind him.

Hundreds of robed figures milled about, conversing softly in the cavernous halls of the sacred place, men and women of all species and all ages. Yes, though one stood out, or at least broke away from the crowd. The middle-aged Jedi, his brow robes shuffled ever so slightly, the cloth clinging to the mans form like a shroud. The knight studied the new-comers outer exoskeleton, his expression, or at least what he could make from it.

"Good day lad, im Jedi Knight Makal Jorbor, I am to be your teacher. I'm glad to have you as my student. So Aaliyah.... Its Aaliyah right? Of course it is, pardon me son. So tell me what do you know of the force? Follow me..."

Makal clasped both hands behind his back, and began to walk slowly forwards down the great hall. Cutting accross rows of people before turning into a brightly lit red marbele corridor, the path lead several yards before the room cut out into a high ceiling with wide walls. Long archways spiraled from one side of the ceiling to the other, the stone carved as if it were only butter. Drawn into the marbel, depictions, of the great Alaskan War, and masters of old. It was such a sight, elegant and mysterious in the same manner.

Makal turned, the Knight now facing the padawan.

"Young Aaliyah, tell me of your past. What made you choose this route in life, what caused you seek out the jedi?"

His eyes twinkled, as his mouth produced a comforting smile.

Aaliyah was quite intrigued by the man who greeted him, this Makal Jorbor, his new Master. Without hesitation Aali fell in step behind Jorbor, the clacking of his nails seemed amplified by the great hall, escalating his nervousness. As he followed he gave his master a brief answer.

“I don’t know much about the Force sir; I came here to learn about it.”

After a brief walk through the halls of this ancient place, but it seemed to be more than just a building; but rather time incarnate. Just by walking through these halls he was peeling away each layer of the past and getting back to the root of not only this place, but the start of the Jedi as well. Deep in thought, he nearly keep walking into his teacher, luckily he caught himself quickly enough to save from a mild dose of embarrassment.

Standing at attention as Makal faced him, back erect, emotionless black eyes gazing into those of twinkling hazel, a question was posed to him that he hadn’t really even thought of before this meeting. Why had he sought out the Jedi? He though about it, his eyes going from his smile, and then his eyes, and back, as he sought out some tell.

“Well,” he started, bending and unbending his knees as he spoke, “I used to get picked on as a child, and I came upon the Force in an…Altercation with another student at my school. Since then I’ve been trying on my own to Master this power with no success. Then there was this test I took, and I decided that I should harness this to the best of my ability and go to the Temple to be trained to wield this skill appropriately.”

He said with a waggle of his antennae. Inside he was desperately hoping that this was the right response…
