The Jedi Fortress—also known as the Jedi castle or the Jedi temple—was the headquarters of the Jedi Order on the planet Prakith: a large, mountainous fortress built into the Asonel Mountains. The Fortress was constructed over the ruins of the Cathedral: a temple and base used by the Jedi Exiles in the aftermath of the Hundred-Year Darkness.

The Fortress had a myriad of purposes. Like other Jedi temples, initiates into the Order were frequently trained at the fortress. Most of the Jedi trained at the Fortress were Force-sensitive individuals discovered on Prakith. The temple's second primary function was research and development, and it was responsible for developing technology for the recovering Order to use in its war against the Sith Empire.

The Jedi Fortress was divided into three distinct campuses:

• The first was known as Home Campus and was open to Jedi of any rank. It was located in the eastern most building and was home to classrooms, shrines, and living-quarters like a traditional Jedi temple.
• The second was the R&D Campus, which was the western most building, and was open only to those of Jedi Master rank or higher. As one of the Order's technology development bases, this campus was responsible for developing tools (i.e., shield generators) for the Jedi Order to use in its ongoing conflict with the Sith Empire. The R&D department within researched kyber crystal technology.
• The third and final was known as the Restricted Campus because it was restricted only to those who had the direct approval of the Jedi Council. Pyramidal in shape, it was built directly over the ruins of the old Jedi Exile Cathedral. Grand Master Wyck, who commissioned the Fortress's construction after he negotiated Prakith into the Jedi Order, had this campus built to store dark side artifacts belonging to both the extinct Jedi Exiles and the newfound Sith so that the Jedi Order could better understand their enemies. Because of the potentially corruptive nature of the artifacts and the residual dark side energy left behind by the Exiles, only Jedi approved by the Jedi Council may enter. The catacombs running beneath this campus connect to a series of kyber crystal caves that were previously used by the Jedi Exiles, but have now been taken over for use by the Jedi Order.

The Jedi Fortress also features a tower on its western campus known as the "Grand Master's Tower." A Jedi Council chamber can be found at the top of the tower and the Grand Master of the Jedi Order possesses a residence there whenever he or she visits. The entire Fortress is protected by a series of Knightfall-class shield generators, hidden in the surrounding mountains, making orbital bombardment and air-based assaults impossible.
