KEOWE VII JYATT

- DESCRIPTION -

The Keowe VII Jyatt Hotel was originally constructed by the Jyatt Group, a pan-Galactic hotel chain specializing in mid-range accommodations at various vacation destinations. Originally built during the tourism boom on Keowe VII, this particular Jyatt Hotel was placed on one of the planet's abundant tropical islands, specifically on a mountainside which gave it an unparalleled view of the sparkling coast.

The Keowe VII Jyatt was constructed in a like manner to many Jyatt properties on other worlds, with a semi-modular permacrete structure adapted to local conditions. The hotel's facade made use of a local hardwood which was particularly resistant to rot, giving it a unique appearance which - despite close to a century of neglect - still remains largely intact. The hotel originally had 216 well-appointed suites; in addition to rooms, it had a restaurant, a cocktail lounge, a holotheater, hologame arcade, casino, spa, indoor pool, indoor wallball courts and an underground parking garage with complimentary valet service. The grounds contained an award-winning greenputt course and numerous hiking trails. Shuttle-bus service was available to all points on the island, and to many nearby islands via the planet's oversea highway network.

Like many such locations, the Keowe VII Jyatt Hotel closed shortly after the outbreak of the Saber War, as a result of the catastrophic tourism slump which turned the once popular vacation world into a forgotten backwater. It remained deserted for decades, the surrounding jungle reclaiming most of the grounds. The structure itself likely would have been consumed, were it not for Xilti Jeks and the Black Imperators swoop gang, who claimed the abandoned hotel as their base of operations. The gang renovated rooms as needed or desired for habitation and other purposes; the restaurant kitchen and lounge have been returned to operation, as have the hologame arcade, holotheater and one of the wallball courts. The subterranean garage is currently used to store and service the gang's collection of swoops and other vehicles. One of the gang members maintains a garden on the building's roof. Power - in the form of a few old portable fusion generators spliced into the building's wiring grid - has been run to those parts of the building which are currently in use.

Xilti herself occupies a suite on the top floor of the building, from which she can keep an eye on the main approach to the hotel, an overgrown road which switchbacks up the mountainside. Although the resort's original perimeter security system succumbed to the elements long ago, an improvised network of motion sensor trips has been put in place at the hotel's entrances and along the road, routed to the hotel's old security office and intended to warn the gang of anyone approaching. Its coverage is hardly comprehensive, but it's better than nothing.

The Black Imperators come and go from the hotel on a regular basis, often leaving 1 or 2 members behind to keep the place occupied, lest some other band of miscreants occupy it in the same way they did. The property does not technically belong to the gang, but it is remote enough that few take any notice of them being there; with the abundance of abandoned hotels and resorts across the planet, few would indeed care even if they did. This remoteness can be a bit of a hassle at times, however; the nearest inhabited village is several hours away even by swoop, and so just going to buy groceries can be something of an odyssey.

- INTENT -

To create a home for my Keowese swoop rider, Xilti Jeks, as well as the members of her gang, the Black Imperators. The place is hardly intended to be a stronghold, just an abandoned building that is being occupied by the gang, with a few improvised measures to spot intruders. The place is run as a sort of commune. I also intend for this to be an example of the sorts of abandoned hotels and resorts which are common on Keowe VII.

The building pictured, by the way, is the Hotel Amanauz in Dombai, Russia.

That... is a very strange looking building. Nevertheless, approved.
