Klussk Frag Mine's

None

MANUFACTURER
Klussk makes these by hand.

SIZE
These are roughly 2" in diameter and an inch in height.

WEIGHT
About .2 kg

COMPOSITION
These can be made with multiple types of material but are usually made with thin layers of durasteel for the exterior and varying types and thickness's for the core.

WEAPON TYPE
Grenade/mine

DAMAGE TYPE
Light - Heavy

AMMUNITION CAPACITY
One charge per use and individual mine

FIRE SELECTOR
None

MAX RANGE
Around 8 meter's per mine.

DESCRIPTION
These can vary in composition, as they are relatively easy to make. These mine's can come in many different variants but this type is fragmentation. For the fragmentation variant, the charge in the middle is made of varying metals. The makeshift grenade mine can be made on the fly but will need time to make. Most of the time, the frag core is made from thick, easily attainable metals that are serrated on the inside for an easy attainable explosion (this also helps with shrapnel). The only constant between mines are what's outside of the core, the base. Usually a thin, durable metal with buttons on the cusp's.

Klussk's proximity mine's are usually used for defensive and surprise situations. The device is pretty easy to make, with a standard board for the innards controlling the magnetic fields diameter around the device. There are small, translucent pores around the devices edge that produce the field. The basic, almost primitive board also sends spark to the charge, sending information to the cores primer and setting off the device. The device can be used in multiple set-ups as well. But for this variant, we'll stick with fragmentation. The core of the device is also simple to swap out, all it takes is to screw in a new core of the users choosing.

The base of the device is simple in design. There are usually only 4 buttons. Two to control the fields range, which has a maximum radius of 4 feet. One to prime the charge to ready it for setting. And one to turn the device on or off.

The bottom of the mines can also be set with magnets or adhesive material to set on different surfaces. This makes them more versatile, being able to set up traps on the fly. Being as how these small mines are durable, the can be thrown and set a distant away from the user with little trauma taken. These things are pretty durable and are easy to use.

The biggest drawback of this device is it's lethality. While in a frag configuration, one or two mines won't do much to penetrate heavy armor. Medium and light armor will take damage and even have some penetration by shrapnel but the victim will usually be breathing. The lack of coverage in medium and light armor is what makes these dangerous to those sets. What makes these dangerous to most everyone is when they are clustered together in groups of 4 or 5 and used on groups of people. That's where most of the damage is done. The "punch" of one frag variant isn't as much as a standard grenade but with a couple more, can be just as deadly and more effective.

LEGALITY
These mine's are very illegal. The improvised weapon, while easy to make and even the most primitive design can be lethal, is still an improvised weapon. You wouldn't want to be caught in a star port with these on your waist. Though, they are small and easy to conceal, which makes them even more dangerous.

INTENT
I made these for the fact the Siz Va Klussk is a bounty hunter and needed something more versatile in his arsenal. Standard grenades are ok but are limited to what they can do tactically besides throwing them. While standard grenades are nice to have, I wanted Klussk to have something a little sneakier. Something he could fall back on reliably when fleeing or setting up an ambush. It fits his character pretty well, too. I don't plan on selling them or marketing them, though I'm sure Klussk wouldn't see the problem of handing them out to teammates for some plot thing. I haven't seen tech like this either this timeline.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. Building them would require the schematics Klussk has drawn up, or someone reverse engineering them. But reverse engineering would be difficult, because upon exploding the shell of the mine can be destroyed. They are pretty simple to make and would take someone adept in tech to make.

I really don't like the fact that a single submission encompasses multiple types of weapon. I'd prefer to see multiple submissions, one for each type of mine.

Sorry, I didnt see this sitting here. I really am not a fan of tech that's only made and controlled by one character unless they set up some sort of good sized company through plots- especially when the tech is conceptually very conventional. I also dont think this will get very much use before the end of the TL, so I'm going to go ahead and archive it.

If you really want it for next TL, feel free to try again.
