OCC: I didn't really describe the planet he was on because I wasn't sure which Alsakan planet the training is on.

A cool breeze swept through the training grounds as Durane took a seat. He was to begin training in this so-called Alsakan order. The man had just left his home planet of Dolomar; this was his first time in the outside world. It was much different than his homeland in many aspects.

So Durane meditated, searched his inner self and prepared his mind for what was to come. He had no idea what he was about to experience.

Admiral Claudius walked onto the training grounds where the Alsakan Order's newest recruit was supposed to be. It felt strange going back to the basics of training, as this was something he had not done for nearly 13 years by his count, ever since that one accident. But the new guy probably has not heard about it, which is a good thing.

"Ah I see you have already started meditating, why?"

As Durane was meditating, he felt the presence of somebody enter the training grounds. This man held a powerful presence, which brought about an immediate respect. It wasn't just the man's power, it was his level of wisdom that his aura put out. Durane's trainer would be a good one indeed.

Now, to answer the question. Why was he meditating? Well, that was easy.

"I am meditating to create a center of peace and to open my mind up for any upcoming tasks. I do this before everything I do."

"And were you told this, or did you find this out on your own?"

Came the next question, as Claudius walked around his new trainee. He looked up and down the man, casually examining him to see if there were any visually wrong with him. He stopped once again in front of the man, his arms folded across his chest waiting for the answer.

"Well, my father taught me this. It took me a bit to finally see beyond myself, though, but once I did, I became a better listener and thinker. I accept others ideas without prejudice now; it has truly made me a better and happier person."

"Those are excellent characteristics of a soldier I must say."

"Well let us begin your training then." Claudius said as he stepped aside and turned around, this way he was now standing beside the new recruit. In front of them were three targets, each 50 meters further away then the previous one, along with a building containing different types of targets.

"I need to make sure you can hit a target at medium range. This is the most basic test, one I hope you can pass."

Durane nodded and turned towards the targets he had previously wondered about. It looked like they were going to be put to use. So, looking at the one that was in the middle of the other two, he took at his blaster and took aim. It seemed like an easy enough target, so after a quick look, he shot. It was a perfect shot.

"Good now that I know you can hit a target, we can begin with the next step." Claudius reached into his pocket and removed a small device, pressing a button on it. A door on the side of the building opened up and a blindfolded and bound woman stumbled out, followed by an Alsakan guard holding her at gunpoint. Even from this range you could see the tears streaming down the woman's face, and he body shaking in fear.

"Shoot her."

Durane was startled by the situation that had been thrusted at him. He couldn't tell if his trainer was serious or if this was some sort of test. Were the Alsakans hoping for compassion out of Durane? He would shoot the woman where she rested if he knew whether or not his trainer was serious. Though if he simply followed orders blindly like this, he would stay bottom of the barrell for his entire stay in the military. So, looking to his trainer, he tried to delve into his being to see whether or not the man was serious.

Finding nothing, he took matters into his own hands, hoping dearly that Claudius wouldn't scold him for doing so. Durane approached the woman slowly, the whole time soothing her mind with the Force in an attempt to hopefully calm her a bit. He knew this woman would feel a sense of calmness approaching. To the woman, Durane spoke.

"What crime have you committed to my comrades? Speak truthfully, for your words will be judged by your inner conscience for eternity."

"I did not tell you to interrogate the target soldier, I ordered you to shoot her!" Claudius said, still from the outer range of the firing squad. No emotion in his voice, nothing to give away his true intentions and expectations of the recruit.

"Please.... please don't do it..." a whisper from the tied up woman came, a plead to live and not be punished for a the small crime that she committed.

"If you have a problem with my orders, Soldier, I suggest you take them up with me instead of her."

Durane looked back to Claudius, then back to the woman. There was no remorse in the man's voice, nothing to show that he cared about the woman. So, with a reluctant sigh, Durane walked back to his trainer and where he was previously standing. Still looking at Claudius, Durane raised his gun towards the woman and shot. It was deadly accurate, heading towards her blindfolded head.

The shot rang out, echoing over the nearby trees and building. The Admiral let the noise settle down, so once again there was nothing but the sound of nature surrounding them. The woman lay bleeding on the ground, dead before the bullet left her head.

"Now answer me this Durane, why did you do it?" Claudius said, choosing to use the man's name instead of the the generic soldier he was calling him. "Did you fire because you were ordered to, or because this woman deserved to die? I know what you were thinking, and why you didn't fire immediatly when I told you, it was against your morals. Something that I look for in a new recruit."

He paused, waiting for the answer to his question before continuing.

"Yes, it was against my morals. But when it comes down to morals, who is really the judge of right and wrong? The society that taught us only the way they wanted us to think? So when choosing between a possibly corrupt system of morality, or the orders of my Commander, I choose your orders, Sir. Besides, her death was karma coming back to bite her in the ass."

"Perhaps Durane, would it change your opinion on the situation if I told you she owed me a few credits, and did not repay them?"

This was the part where he wanted to see the man's reaction was. It would determine exactly where this training would go next.

"If that were the situation, Sir, I would question a good amount of my respect for you as a man. Really though, I would understand there was nothing I could do about it now and move on, knowing that I have nothing to regret and that the burden of remorse would be yours to bear."

"Interesting..."

"What I want is a soldier that will question his superior when the order goes against his morals. What I want, is a soldier that can think on his own, not just follow orders."

He let that settle in as Claudius once again pushed a button, allowing the woman to shimmer and dissipate, a mere hologram.

Durane nodded, happy that he had initially questioned orders. More importantly, though, he was glad that the Alsakans weren't just brainless killers. Claudius' statement had proved to the Private that the Alsakans were about morals and character too, which Durane cared much about.

When the woman disappeared, a slight grin appeared on Durane's face. That was one damn good hologram. This hologram even stopped Durane's blaster shot, which was a surprise. The hologram was irrelevant now, though, and Durane turned to his trainer.

"I am truly glad to hear this, Sir. I will be no mindless killer; my mind will lead the way in combat and missions, rather than merely the words of my master. I will be no robot, but a sentient underling, ready to follow orders for an army of just actions."
