DESCRIPTION​

The Liberator-class starfighter is an ancient model of light combat spacecraft, originally built by Koensayr Manufacturing during the waning years of the Old Republic. Designed in response to the high cost of the Aurek-class strike starfighter, the Liberator was intended primarily for use by local defense forces and garrisons, whereas the Aurek mostly served with fleets and other mobile units. As a result, although the Liberator was not as visible in period reports about the Republic's war against the Sith, it nevertheless participated in more than its fair share of the fighting.

The Liberator is fairly typical of snubfighters of the late Old Republic period. Lacking shields or a hyperdrive, it nevertheless has decent maneuverability, as well as a relatively heavy armament for the time including 2 medium laser cannons and a concussion missile launcher with a 6-shot magazine.

In the present day, Liberator-class starfighters are fairly rare, with few existing outside museums and private collections. Nevertheless, they are somewhat better represented in the present due to the large numbers which were produced, occasionally showing up in deep storage depots and junkyards.

Restricted. Liberator-class starfighters are military ships, even if they are old, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.
