Lore Guidelines & Profile Requirements

Welcome to SWRP's lore boards! Here you can create lore that will expand on the version of the Star Wars universe used by us all here on SWRP. However, before you get started, there are two types of lore you need to be made aware of:

Personal Lore: Personal lore is lore that affects a single character or a very small group of characters, like a small Independent faction, or a group of characters that roleplay a lot together. This lore might be, for example, a holocron that is important to a character's backstory or a series of roleplays surrounding a group plot between a closed group of players. Personal lore might also be an important NPC character that plays a role in a character's backstory or in an RP. Personal lore rarely, if ever, affects the site at large.
Note: Player characters who are immortalized by a lore article are considered personal lore.
Site Lore: Site lore is the exact opposite. Site lore affects the entire site and its overarching stories. Site lore can consist of anything from important religious artifacts, to entire Force religions, to mythology, to cultural aspects of one of the site's (or Star Wars's) many cultures and races. Important historical figures that would affect the entire site, such as the ruler of an Empire, or the inventor of a cherished piece of technology might also count as site lore depending on the scope of said person's achievements. Site lore has the potential to affect everyone on the site.
Please remember these important distinctions when you are creating your own lore articles. Also, please note, whether your lore article is Personal Lore or Site Lore, once it is approved, it is free to be referenced or used by anyone on the site. You do not own that lore, so be careful and keep that in mind when constructing a lore article.

Now that we've got that out of the way, here is how you will go about designing your lore articles. Below is a template for writing a lore article. While you are free to stylize (within reason) your lore article however you like, the elements you see below must be included if you want your lore article to be approved:

  • Thread Prefix — Verbal, Artifact, Tradition, Historical, Mythology, and Religion (choose the one that best applies to the lore you are about to submit)
  • Category — Personal or Site Lore (this needs to be written in the profile)
  • Body — This is where you will describe the lore; it is the body of the lore article.
  • Intent — Optional, but it helps the Admins see what you are intending to do with the Lore article.

After you are finished writing your article, you may submit it for peer review. Both @Malon and @Brandon Rhea are Lore Admins and will review and approve lore articles as they are submitted. Heed the suggestions of your other peers to, as their suggestions will be taken into account by the Admins when reviewing a lore article.

Here are some other rules to keep in mind when you are making a lore article. Please read:
  1. Any and all submitted material in this section is for the fair use of other RPers. That means any member on the site is able to make reference to your lore submission.
  2. Members are asked to work together in order to create a story to add to the site. Members who are frequently disagreeable and /or disrespectful could be subjected to a ban from the lore board.
  3. As more canon material becomes available, the administration holds the right to null any submissions, however, this will be done on a case by case basis.
  4. Lore submissions cannot be created in order to give any faction an unfair advantage in the story. Such submissions will be archived and repeated offends will be banned from submitting Lore content.
  5. If an unapproved Lore Application is accidentally posted in one of the Approved Lore sections, do not repost. Simply inform an admin and the thread will be moved.
