Malon bowed respectfully and then left his Master's presence. Taking a turbolift down to the supply station, he gathered everything necessary to build his lightsaber's hilt. He set to work, setting the pieces out in front of him and carefully bringing them together, using the dark side to guide his hand movements. It took him several hours, but the finished product was like a work of art; a sleek metal hilt that curved towards the hand-grip, allowing it to be held more comfortably in his hand. All that he lacked was the crystal.

He walked back up to the turbolift and rode it back to the level of his training room. His master was still there when he returned and he bowed in respect once more before presenting his master the finished product.

Jev was sitting cross-legged on the floor when Malon returned and pointed to the floor in front of him, "Sit." As Malon laid down the items he had procured in front of him, Jev quickly looked them over to see if everything required was there. "Good, we have everything we have to begin. Except a crystal, the most vital element of a lightsaber." Putting his hands into one of his pockets he drew out a small orange crystal. After holding it up while the light fell on it, he handed it over to Malon. "It belonged to a Jedi Knight once, but he won't be needing it any more. Make better use of it than he did. But before we begin, tell me why you picked a curved hilt."

Malon took the crystal from him and placed it beside his new lightsaber hilt. He then looked up at his master to answer him.

"The curved hilt's hand grip fits to the form of a human hand. It allows for more graceful and precise strikes as well as near flawless flexibility, something required in the Shien form. I've only read about Shien, but when I practiced it earlier in our session, it seemed to fit my fighting style. The curved hilt has a weakness in that it makes blaster-bolt deflection difficult, but Shien negates that weakness, so the two work together, giving me a fluid and flawless battle plan." he explained.

Jev heard Malon's reply and nodded upon its conclusion. "You know what you are getting yourself into then. Curved hilt lightsabers are difficult to master and many a times they are chosen without taking proper consideration of their inherent weaknesses. That is why there are so few true masters of the curved hilt in the galaxy, many don't manage to survive long enough to unlock its true potential."

"Now, let us begin. You will have to make extensive use of the Force to bind the various components together and at times very fine control will be required. It might take some time but you will ultimately get there. Reach out through the Force, envision what you want your blade to end up as and exert your will upon the components through the Force. Reach out to my blade if you want to get a feel of the internal workings, despite your blade being a curved hilt one the basic internal circuitry will be the same. Start."

Malon nodded and shut his eyes. The dark side came to him willingly and soon encompassed the room. Slowly, his lightsaber hilt was lifted into the air and began to come apart until each piece was floating separately in the air. Now the crystal joined the other pieces in the air. It was cold to his senses; as cold as the dark side itself. It resonated with him, called to him, as if it had picked him over its former Jedi master. Using his master's weapon as a guide, Malon began to piece each part of his lightsaber together.

The power cell, the focusing lenses, the circuitry, the emitter matrix, the ignition switch and various other switches on it, and finally, the crystal, which fit snuggly into its place. Finally, Malon sealed the weapon together with the Force, ensuring it wouldn't fall apart when he released the Force; and then he did, the weapon dropping into his hand with a light smack.

For a short moment, he examined the weapon. In his eyes, it was flawless; a truly wonderful work of craftsmanship. Gripping it tightly, he opened his eyes and awaited his master's instructions.

Jev simply rose up after seeing Malon finish its construction and removed a small remote from within another one of his robe's pockets. Activating it and tossing it into the air he began walking out the door. "We are done for the day. Get used to the weapon while you can. That remote will start firing blaster bolts at you in ten seconds, and it will be shooting to kill. You have fifteen minutes before it runs out of power, survive if you can. If you do make it then tomorrow you shall get the chance to prove to me whether you are truly worthy of wielding such a weapon or not."

Malon nodded. Such threats no longer scared him. The dark side of the Force held all the power he needed to accomplish any task. As his master left the room, the remote kicked in and prepared to fire its weapons. Malon grasped his new lightsaber in a reverse grip fashion and hit its activation switch. A snap-hiss and a low hum filled the room as his orange blade of plasma shot out from out of the weapon's hilt. Just as it did, the remote began to shoot its deadly blaster bolts.

Thrusting his blade arm out in horizontal attack stance, he caught the first bolt on his lightsaber, reflecting it off the wall. Immersing himself in the dark side, he began several fluid circular swings of his blade, causing new blaster fire to reflect off of the orange wall of plasma. The Force guided his strikes, allowing each one to connect with the blaster bolt it was intended to connect with. The room was now ablaze with orange and red plasma as blaster bolts were reflected and his orange blade whirled in circular arcs to continue doing so.

Ten minutes went by and nothing change, except Malon was starting to feel exhaustion from his continued use of the Force. Summoning every ounce of dark emotion he could, he replenished his muscles and continued going. The last five minutes past by fairly quickly and then the remote fell to the ground; out of power. Satisfied with his work, Malon switched off his lightsaber and clipped it to his belt.

Upon returning to his room, he studied more about Shien, learning that it was only one part of the same form. Form V had two unique techniques; Shien and Djem So. As Malon studied, he realized that both were quite similar, but the Shien was more fit for his style of combat, just as he'd suspected earlier. He was asleep within an hour and awoke early again in the morning.

This morning was different from the others. He felt powerful. More powerful than he had the last couple of days. He left from his room, walked down the hall and sat himself in the training chambers. He was early, but he was more than certain that would only please his master further, considering his progress.

Jev walked into the training room to find Malon already there, seated against a wall. As Jev looked around he saw the blaster score marks on the walls and a small smile escaped his lips. "So you survived the remote. Good, now lets see if you can survive your next test."

Without warning he drew his lightsaber and igniting the crimson blade, began walking towards Malon. "The philosophy behind Shien dictates a dedication to making use of power and strength to defeat an enemy, focusing on dominating your opponent. It is useful when dealing with multiple enemies, but against a single opponent it is less effective, has weaknesses that can be exploited. The question is, will you succumb to those weakness or overcome them?"

With that he suddenly increased the speed of his movements and moved in with a vertical slash aimed at Malon's right shoulder.

Malon reacted without thought; his lightsaber was already in his hand and its orange plasma blade activated. In a blur of motion, he spun his sword around in a circular arc and caught his master's blade on it. Unlike his previous sparring session with Jev, his movements were more fluid this time. His hand's newfound comfort with the curve of his weapon's hilt made it easier to control his movements. The Force acted as a guide, allowing him to parry with good timing.

He didn't stop at the block, however. Immersing himself in dark side energy, Malon pressed the attack, bringing his blade over his head in the customary Shien opening stance and then thrusting forward towards his master's left shoulder.

Jev rotated his lightsaber in his hand to make it come swinging parallel to him and bat Malon's jab to the side. Continuing with the rotation, but now with added force due to him moving his entire arm, Jev pushed back Malon's blade and landed a hard kick on his chest to push him back. As his foot landed on the ground, he pivoted about that very foot to to come twisting at Malon from the side, his lightsaber coming in with a reverse swing. He continued the rotation and moved forward at the same time. Ending up behind him he launched a powerful Force push to push him away from himself.

Malon took the full force of the kick, but managed to regain his balance just in time to block the lightsaber strike. Feeling the Force surge around Jev, Malon summoned the dark side and answered his Master's Force Push with his own.

Jev jumped a step backwards as Malon replied with a telekinetic push of his own. Satisfied with his apprentice's response to his attacks he decided to take it a step further. Drawing his other blade, he threw it straight at Malon, directing it in towards his head along a curved trajectory. Immediately he rushed in himself to come in towards him from the other side with his other lightsaber ready in his hands to slash at his waist.

Malon was cornered. A thrown lightsaber from one side, and his master charging from the other. Fear kicked in....and fear was strength. Drawing on the dark side of the Force, he began to pull it into his body, holding it at the very center. His whole body levitated from the sheer amount of Force energy he held within. He then threw his hands out, unleashing a massive burst of Force energy; a Force repulse.

Jev for surprised by Malon's response, this was certainly not what someone would have expected. But then he had survived this long due to his ability to be ready for anything, to respond quickly. Reaching out to the Force he willed himself to stay put, cementing himself to the spot, almost as if he was a part of the ship, unshakable, unmovable. Such was his control that he did not move an inch while his apprentice's Force wave passed over and past him.

As soon as the attack passed Jev jumped into a Force assisted leap, summoning his other lightsaber into his free hand and approaching Malon from above, his two lightsabers coming down to impale Malon through both shoulders.

Malon, guided by the Force, swung his blade above him like a fan, catching his master's two blades and knocking them aside before the latter landed. He then made one anger-filled jab at Jev's throat.

Jev was aware of the blade coming in towards his throat the moment he landed, immediately ready to respond. Using the Force to greatly increase his speed and dropping his lightsabers, he brought his left hand up to block the lightsaber on his palm. Using the Force to absorb the blade's energy, he dissipated it out through his arms. He then pushed the blade upwards while himself ducking at the same time and moved forwards so that the blade passed over his left shoulder. He then delivered a powerful punch with his right hand to Malon's abdomen. As his padawan went tumbling back, Jev straightened up and summoning his lightsabers to himself, clipped them back onto the belt on his waist.

"You have grown stronger, that is good. I have shown you a new technique just now, Tutaminis, the ability to absorb energy through the Force. What I used was a very specialized form, but even basic applications can be very useful. We shall start small this time, you will use the Force to put up a barrier around you. I will launch projectiles at you which you will stop at the barrier by absorbing its energy. Understood?"

Malon recovered from the blow to his abdomen slowly, though he showed no sign of pain on his face. The orange blade of his lightsaber evaporated as he switched the weapon off, clipping it to his belt. He nodded to Jev;

"I understand, master." he said.

Gathering the Force to him, he plunged into its depths, drawing on its dark powers until he was completely immersed. He then molded the Force into an invisible bubble around him and solidified it with his will.

"I am ready, master."

Jev walked to a chair that was placed in the corner of the room and igniting his lightsaber chopped it up into a number of pieces. He then began floating them into the air one by and and began launching them towards Malon. Metal rods with sharp ends went flying in point first as did chunks of flat metal. If they went through the shield then they would surely injure Malon, some could even kill him. So for Malon, this was as much of a survival test as it was a lesson.

Malon centered himself in the dark side. The first piece of sharp metal flew at him only to rebound off of the invisible wall he had constructed. The next wave was more than just one rod, but actually three. Using the Force, he predicted their trajectory and re-enforced the sections of his Force barrier that would receive the impact. It worked flawlessly, and the large pieces of shrapnel actually bent this time as they were rebounded off the Force shield.

The last pieces of the chair were now flung at him. Reaching out into the Force, Malon expanded his barrier a few feet out in front of him. This time, the flying shrapnel passed through the Force field, but Malon was ready. Once inside the field, he used the Force to slow the shrapnel down, causing it to clank harmlessly to the floor before it even reached him. He then pulled the Force bubble back in to surround himself and looked to his master for further instruction.

Jev was impassive as Malon managed to successfully protect himself. It looked like he was ready to learn more about the power of the dark side. Raising his hands in front of him, pointed straight at Malon, Jev released a power surge of bright blue lightening from his finger tips. As the Force Lightning went sparking through the air towards Malon, Jev slowly began moving towards him, increasing the intensity of the lighting and concentrating its spread so that the pressure it would exert on Malon's protection bubble would rapidly increase.
