Mirdala-class
Raiding Corvette

The Mirdala class is the brain child of the members of Rancor Base, where the engineers envisioned a vessel capable of both disabling and boarding heavily armed military and pirate vessels. Taking the design philosophy of integrating weaponry into the ship itself, they based the entire hull of the ship around it's Heavy Ion Cannon. This allows for a larger cannon than corvettes are usually equipped with, which is capable of taking down a frigate's shields in comparably few shots at medium range. A small swivel was added, giving it a 15 degree firing arc.

Next, disabling the ship enemy ship had to be addressed. The need to disable their ship quickly discounted the Ion Cannon, as the power drain makes it dangerous to fire it more than several times without recharging. A secondary generator was considered, but it would increase the size of the ship considerable. Eventually, it was decided that Ion Pulse missiles would be able to disable the ship's shields with minimal power drain while the ion cannon would be used instead for the internals.. Two torpedo tubes where added on either side of the skeleton frame. Point defense was considered early, and six small laser turrets where added. One in the middle of the ship at the front, and one on either side, on both the top and bottom, effective at short range and able to target enemy ships at medium range.

Finally, the issue of actually successfully boarding the vessel was addressed. To this, the designers turned to naval piracy, where boats would fire harpoons into enemy vessels. This was implemented into the front of the ship, at the bow. Each was given the ability to swivel slightly left and right, and lock onto different areas of the ship. Guidance thrusters where added to the harpoons themselves to allow for precise targeting. At the start of the harpoon line, flexible tubing was added on a compressed air system. When a harpoon fully extended, the tubing would be shout out along the line, locking magnetically to the harpoon. Once the tube was confirmed to be secure and pressurized, boarders would be able to cross quickly. Heavy duty plasma torches on the end of the harpoon would cut through the enemy's hull and allow the boarders access into the ship. Once the ship is successfully captured, part of the harpoon would detach to fill the hole created, and it would be sealed, allowing the harpoon to retract back and be reloaded for another attack. The cord leading to the harpoons was specially made to allow power to be shunted from the engines, allowing the harpoon to deal a contact-to-contact Ion Pulse, keeping the ship disabled during boarding actions.

A large power generator was added to the back of the ship, feeding the engines, weapons, and other systems. An incredibly fast 1.0 Hyperdrive was added for quick entry and exit from combat areas, as well as a backup hyperdrive.

The issue of maneuverability was brought up. If the ship would be engaging larger vessels, then the ship would have to either have a powerful shield generator, or incredible speed to get in fast. A large shield generator was out of the question considering the power drain of the other systems, so enlarged engines where places on the back near the Reactor, giving the ship an incredible speed, acceleration of 2700Gs, and an atmospheric speed of 1000kph. Sensors where added, as well as the control system. A shield generator of moderate strength was added, about fitting the corvette size. Heavy duty sensor dampeners where added to deal with the strain.

Once all the crucial systems where in place, the ship's interior was created inside the designed frame. A tactical center was added behind the Ion Cannon, with a long corridor leading up to the harpoon bay and prep area. Behind the tactical center, a hallway split to engineering and two crew quarters. A small eating area was added to each of the crew quarters, as well as basic relief facilities. Crew quarters where minimized for space and to maximize the size of marine crews. It was decided that a dedicated armory would be unneeded, and weapons would be kept in the crew quarters for each member. Due to the cross training of mandalorians and support personnel, portions of the crew can be used in boarding action, making the need for separated crew quarters unnecessary. Airlocks where added, each with integrated plasma torches for cutting through an enemy's hatches.

Space for only one month of rations was added to maximize room for the crew. Considering the ship's mission to disable enemy vessels and board them, the ship would be able to resupply itself midway through their mission to extend their operational time. Other cargo room is incredibly limited, relying on the captured ships themselves to transport any captured supplies.

With the ship almost completely finalized, it's armor was decided upon. A Durasteel Alloy with a plasteel coating was decided on for it's comparably light weight while maintaining a good amount of strength under fire. This left a hull capable of taking fire from sustained light laser weaponry for a good time before giving.

A deal was negotiated between the Mandalorian Underground and the Rebellion. They would have assistance from Mandalorian engineers to create the prototype as well as the design for the ship in exchange for the first model as well as a discount on future purchases.

It also comes with air fresheners. For morale purposes.

You should, for tech's sake, probably address some sort of inertial-dampener system to explain how you can pull such fast maneuvers without completely splattering the crew on the walls like modern artists with paint.

I see no mint-scented air freshners on this. I thus hate it and you for all eternity.

All Mandos smell like fresh-pine scent. Didn't you know that?

Fix this or my hate will be endless and manifest itself in needlessly petty ways that will torment you for the rest of your days.

Just glancing at this late at night but I would suggest upping the number of shots from the ion cannon to "take down a frigate's shields" a bit. I’d still say that even going full power to the gun in a corvette-sized reactor would still take a decent amount of fire to bring down the shields of a larger capital ship on its own-if it survived going directly toe to toe with a larger, anti-capship or more general purpose frigate while doing that. Frigates tend to have fairly powerful shields, shown to be enough to go against even a Star Destroyer for at least a little bit of time (meanwhile, see The Battle of Kamino, where a CR-90 gets blown up with a few direct hits from a Star Destroyer even with full power to forward shields, whereas the Nebulon held out for quite a bit longer before ultimately having to be abandoned. You can also see the many shattered and broken wrecks of the CR-90s that tried to take down Star Destroyers in groups later in the video for comparison.). Corvettes, generally speaking, are thus not something you ideally want to bring against other, larger capships in 1 v 1 fight hoping to win. Their primary advantage is in their smaller size, speed, and maneuverability while still posing a significant threat to smaller craft, which is why they are mostly used and excel at being blockade runners, anti-smuggler/pirate system patrol duty and/or raiding smaller convoys and finally as anti-starfighter screens for larger vessels. If you do intend to use them in groups though to swarm smaller capital ships like a frigate, then they could indeed be quite a real threat, but I’d still change the change the description of the gun to be more than two shots.

Alternatively, if you do really want that 1 v 1 capability vs a larger ship, consider really big, dedicated anti-capship ion torpedos fired from the center and make it a kind of heavy bomber that way, swooping in and using its superior speed and maneuverability to drop off a full salvo of ion-pulse torpedos, large and smalll. That could very well be enough to disable your typical frigate's shields in a 1 v 1 scenario if you managed to get the drop on them and launch your payload before they could really react or intervene to shoot your torpedos down. Wraith Squadron, for example, was able to cause a heck of a lot of damage with as few as seven X-wings armed with smaller proton torpedos in The Battle of Talasea. They were able not only to collapse a Nebulon frigate's shields but also split it in half and force the remaining corvette to surrender. That's another viable route you could go down, too, a pocket/light carrier with starfighters/bombers geared toward disabling ships rather than blowing them up, but just keep in mind that you wouldn't want it to get too close to another capship if you design it that way since your primary weapons in that scenario are your strikecraft and not your guns (though if it's not the primary target of the attack or if your enemy is too focused on your starfighters, you could use it to assist).

Yeah man! I get what you're saying. I think it could be switched around with the torpedo being used to take down the shields and the ion cannon being used after the shields are taken down, which would probably work better. I really appreciate the effort you put into all your research and I'll modify the write up later today!
