NATHEMA

REGION OUTER RIM TERRITORIES COORDINATES S-4 HYPERLANE NONE ATMOSPHERE TYPE II

Description

A world long since wiped from the galactic history, Nathema is known to few in the modern galaxy outside of the most adventurous spacers. To locals, it is something of legend, colloquially referred to as 'the Graveyard World', a nickname well earned. Unlike worlds such as Tatooine or Kessel, this uniquely barren world is described as a truly dead world by those who have the misfortune of touching its surface.

Spacers who have landed on her surface and returned to tell the tale describe numerous phenomenon. Comlink channels reportedly suffering interference when closing in on the planet. On the surface, spacers describe faint moans in the wind and some have even reported seeing black-garbed, hooded figures--dubbed the 'Ghosts of Nathema'--marching in a funeral-like procession. Even within their own bodies and minds victims have suffered a horrid and unexplainable feeling of despair, an internal chill, and a tugging at their very souls.

No one knows what caused the cataclysm on Nathema, though that hasn't stopped rumors from persisting. Some believe that the world was destroyed during the ancient wars between the Old Republic and the Sith Empire. Others have proposed more mystical theories, such as the claims that it was destroyed by a singular Sith Lord using the power of the Dark Side or even by a wrathful god. Whatever the cause, however, one cannot deny the esoteric nature of Nathema and it's uniqueness among the stars.

Climate & Terrain

Rocky and barren, Nathema was once a lush agriworld rife with grassy plains and meadows, primary along the western hemisphere. It had two bodies of water, a small sea in the northern continent and a larger ocean to the south and its northern continent is noticeably more mountainous than the rest of the planet. After the cataclysm, the plains were stripped off life and thus reduced to rocky rubble. What little organic matter remained was reduced to mummified husks.

Originally a temperate climate, Nathema's temperature averages around a chilly, but bearable twenty degrees Celsius. Regions with higher altitude generally experience a ten degree drop. The planet suffers constant windstorms, which was a partial cause of Nathema's drastic erosion over the past thousands of years. The winds may vary in intensity, from a gentle breeze to a full-scale tornado, but it never stops. Some who've visited Nathema attribute the winds to the lost souls of Nathema crying out in anguish, as made evident by the subtle moans that can be heard of one listens closely enough.

Points of Interest

Mount Dramath
Hosting Nathema's sole remaining structures, Mount Dramath was clearly an important location to Ancient Nathema. With mummified trees and stone pillars marking the way along a path walled by durasteel and the natural landscape, it could be safely surmised the place was a fortress of some sort--perhaps to protect a place of worship or Nathema's former seat of government. Nowadays, the path remains treacherous with most of its remaining ancient bridges suffering from a lack of maintenance.

The Vault
Sitting atop of Mount Dramath, the Vault, as its simply called due to its similar appearance, is the only maintained structure on Nathema. Those adventurous enough to see its awe likely followed the path in pursuit of the mythical Ghosts of Nathema, who seem to treat the place like a home. However, those wise enough have never endeavored to get too close, lest they risk provoking the wrath of these unpredictable zealots, and thus have never seen what lurked inside. Those who tried have never returned to tell the tale.

Barren Plains
Beyond Mount Dramath, little remains of Ancient Nathema. This is due to both time and violent wind storms, both of which wore down the ancient structures. However, a dedicated archaeologist may find a few artifacts here and there, and be surprised to discover what they find; old farm tools, suggesting that Nathema was once a lush farmland before its cataclysm.

Starship Graveyard
Surrounding an abandoned tomb within Nathema's barren plains is a peculiarity; several crashed starships, usually personal freighters. With no apparent explanation behind these crashes, several roaming spacers blamed many things, ranging from the windstorms that would supposedly throw ships off course, to the mysterious interference experienced just above the planet's atmosphere, and even the resting souls within the ancient catacomb. Some even believe that the planet itself pulls spacers to their deaths to fill a 'void' left behind.

Intent

Nathema is a bit of a unique world with a concept that has surprisingly gone untouched in the mainstream mythos. For those of you unfamiliar, it is an integral part of the SWTOR story. It's a world dead to the Force, and not only that but the Force was stolen from it. The culprit is, of course, none other than the Sith Lord Vitiate, who ruled the planet at the time and stripped it off life to grant himself immortality. While my version of the events is a bit different, I've decided to keep the actual history a bit of a mystery to add to the flavor behind the planet. I will say, however, that we can still hold a long-gone dark sider responsible for this catastrophe. After all, the Dark Side is a pathway to many abilities some may consider unnatural, and what is more unnatural than ripping away the natural Force holding the galaxy together?

I really like this. You left it vague enough so as not to bring in any Legends, but still remained faithful to the lore. Kudos, friend.

Approved.
