New Vahla

New Vahla is a medium sized settlement, both above and below ground, located on the remote planet of Rhen Var. The ancient settlement was formed by original human settlers on the planet Millenia ago, and the tradition continues today - with the Vahla having found a new home within its borders.

DESCRIPTION & LAYOUT

The Settlement was once primarily home to human and near-humans who had acclimatized to the planet from years of living on and beneath its surface. The settlement itself resembles a small, modernized residential district, with very limited shops, at least above-ground. Beneath the frozen surface happens to be where the majority of agriculture and local trade happens.

The settlement’s name was derived from the massive exodus of Vahla to it’s confines. The primary family of the settlement, the Espaa, where allies to many of the race, and word spread between friends and family of the newest and possibly safest haven for the species. Currently, the population has cross-bred, leaving the entire populace to be either partially of fully Vahla.

It’s primary purpose is evidently to provide a safe location for residents of the planet, and to make the most of life within the harsh circumstances the planet creates. It does not have a government, and is policed by a local militia. Many of its denizens are Force-sensitive, though most who remain are not trained enough to do anything more than move small objects.

The main families are comprised of three bloodlines, though you’ll find many different people with varying names reside here. The Espaa are the largest and oldest family, being the founders of the settlement. Next are the Tempests, the first of the Vahla to immigrate alongside their cousins the Alasdaire family. Those families are among the multitudes within New Vahla.

New Vahla has also become a common stop for spacers to refuel and resupply when they find themselves with no other options. It is one of the few settlements on the planet, and as a result is one of the only places capable of providing shelter and food to travellers.

The first, surface level is primarily defensive fortifications and residential homes. Many of these homes had been standing since the settlement’s inception, whereas the warmer and modern homes beneath the surface happened to be far more comfortable. The second level, beneath the surface, is a series of tunnels leading to a large central plaza where commerce is held. The third and final level is the agricultural and secondary residency modules, containing the bulk of their food and population.

HISTORY

New Vahla was discovered and settled ages ago, farther back than anyone in living memory can remember. The Espaa family like to joke that their ancestors crashed on the planet, the truth of the matter being that their name was based on the ancestor’s destination.

Since its inception, the colony has largely remained isolationist out of necessity and regional factors. Mainly, until about two hundred years ago it was very unevolved when it came to technology. A starship was a rare sight indeed, and any weapons were taken or traded from off-worlders. As far as anyone can remember, the families here are the same that existed for ages.

The Vahla Revolution started with the arrival of a rogue Warlord Reuner’s black ships to Rhen Vhar, some 40 years ago. Reuner’s objective was to incite Rhen Var, through force if necessary, to open its borders to allow his forces to set up outposts there. In reaction to the arrival of those black ships which would end a 220 years isolationist policy, the settlement was divided. The pro-imperialist Embers fought to grant political power to the Warlord and rejoin the Galaxy as a whole, while New Vahla’s loyalists, including the elite Paladin swordsmen, fought for the Settlement to keep its current neutral position.

In the end, the Warlord withdrew following the realization that the planet itself was agriculturally and politically useless. Though it could have had strategic value, it seemed the invaders was looking for conquest or glory, neither of which he would find there. The effects of the Revolution, however, are still seen in the eyes and in scars to building and flesh today. It did, however, aid in the modernization and development of technology that exists there, and ultimately allowed the settlement to adopt a more inclusive policy for outsiders, to avoid potential conflict.

INTENT

This is a write up for the settlement where my character hails from. It builds upon every RP since my first entry to the site, this being the settlement founded ages ago. It’s only purpose is to serve as a background location and possible origin for newer characters, should the desire exist.

Since you're linking this site and its existence to things you've done in the past in the RP, can you please link to relevant thread(s) that would support this settlement's existence in the intent section?

It also seems unlikely that only 3 bloodlines would exist in the settlement 6000-ish years from its inception.

I only listed three, because they were the only three I had remembered. I can easily add something stating there are many other families, I simply don't have them named and would leave that up to anyone who wants to make one I suppose, should the interest exist. Unless you'd rather I make a bunch of pseudo-names. There are one or two others that could be added, but I'm 90% certain their bloodlines died out without IC offspring (said characters died before they could get to that point.)

As for the threads, I'm not sure where I'd go to find these. I thought the previous timelines were wiped, and I didn't save threads relevant to this specific circumstance.

Ok, that's fine about the families then. I would just adjust the wording so that it doesn't seem like those 3 bloodlines are the only ones that exist.

The past timelines aren't wiped per se, each one has its own archive in the archive section. But thinking about it more, I don't want to subject you to having to comb through them when they are not easily sortable and such so you can disregard that request.

Reading it again, the whole of the write up is alright, but one thing sticks out and that's the appearance of SE attempting to overtake the planet. Given their secretive and isolationist nature as of current, it's quite unlikely they would have shown up in an assault flavor or giving ultimatums, but rather just set up secret enclaves without alerting anyone to their presence.

You could change this to some upstart warlord looking to stake his own claim, and keep the split of people who think he could bring safety and people who want to remain independent. It would keep the gist and tone of the write up pretty much the same, just with some altered wording, and keeping true to the state of the galaxy and its factions as it sits currently.

I've modified the wording of the named families and added;

Next are the Tempests, the first of the Vahla to immigrate alongside their cousins the Alasdaire family. Those families are among the multitudes within New Vahla.

And changed any Sith Eternal references, making this Reuner random a rogue Warlord from Force-Knows-Where.
