To my knowledge, it is just a pirate group. Perhaps a coincidence? I just picked it up in the Republic Missions thread. Link here.

It depends if Whest is still interested. Ninjedi seemed pretty excited, but I haven't recieved a reply from Whest. I'll let you know tomorrow.
