Protector Oath:

The Oath Ceremony of the Protectors is a tradition that dates back to the first days of the clan. It is a solemn event, and one of much gravitas to the brothers of the order. It takes place in a meeting room designed to look like a Mandalorian Hall of Old, lit by torches, with trophies and weapons, from the primitive axes used by the Tuang, to a Basilisk War Droid, and everything in between, lining its walls and alcoves.

Every spare inch of space is filled with Protectors, a sea of black armor, broken only by individual trim, and utterly silent. Brothers that are stationed to the Darasuum Tor, and all brothers that are easily recalled from the field. It is an unnerving sight for even the most strong willed.

Recruits are brought to the Darasuum Torin a windowless shuttle, stocked with only bread and water. It is a time of meditation, of searching one’s self for the true reason the Protector calling beckons. They are also given the time to paint their armor black, reserving the trim for their choice of color. It is a symbolic gesture, one that shows the forgoing of one’s self, and a commitment to the Mandalorian people.

Once upon the Dreadnought, the recruits are ritually dressed in their Beskar’gam, and anointed with traditional oils, before being presented to their new brothers. Standing before the Sol’yc Cabur, they recite the oath that every Protector has recited, giving themselves over fully to their duty.

I am a verd who comes before his vode to swear an oath, upon my honor and my blood. From this day forth I shall be a warrior servant to my people, until my time comes to an end. As a verd, I lay claim to no Aliit, no creed, except that which protects my vode, until my time is done. By my honor and my blood, I swear it. (At this point the warrior pulls their left gauntlet off, and using a blade, makes an incision along their palm and forearm, allowing the blood to drip freely) Today, I am a Cabur. A verd for something larger than myself. We are vode an, and will lay down our lives to serve the Mandalorian People. Par Tor Bal Ijaat.

The pact is sealed by blood, each new Protector mingling their blood with their brethren in the traditional Mandalorian handshake, wrist to elbow. As soon as this is done, several brothers detach from the main body, bringing forward bandages to dress the wounds. When this is done and the gauntlet reattached, the hall breaks out in a cheer, each Protector attempting to outshout his brothers.

At this time, the Protectors retire to the central tapcafe on the Darasuum Tor, and toast their new arrivals with food and drink. Ale flows freely, as do greetings and encouragement. Toasts are given, both to the new additions to their brotherhood, and to the fallen, showing the continuity of the Protector way of life. The party continues for hours, until the Protectors either retire to their cabins, or find a place on the floor and fall asleep. Hangovers the next day are nursed back to health with small doses of netra’gal and water, and the day after an oath ceremony is considered a day of rest on the Dreadnought.

After this day, a new Protectors duty begins. Training consumes the first month, showing the new recruit Protector methods on the field, teaching of unfamiliar weapons, and tests of skill. When this period has concluded, a Protector is assigned to their outpost, and is given free rein on duty assignments, allowing a Protector to accomplish their personal goals while serving their people.

At the end of their service, each Protector is returned to their clan, a stronger warrior, and admired among their people. From this position, they can train new warriors, perfect techniques, and gain a more active role in the forging of their clan. A token is bestowed upon them at the end of their watch, forged in the heart of the Darasuum Tor, symbolizing their everlasting duty to the Mandalorians. This token can take many different forms, from a weapon, to armor, to personal items, linked in some deeply personal way to the carrier. Each token is forged from the armor of fallen foes, and engraved with the Protector sigil, a constant reminder of the true heart of a warrior.

After a recruit has been selected, and if they survive the training, they come upon the time of the Blooding. This is an ancient tradition, and one that has sadly fallen out of practice within the Mando'ade as a whole. It signifies the movement to a full cabur, and is required to take up the Black.

On their Blooding mission, the recruit is placed with a full Protector, and they are sent on a mission for the good of the Mando'ade. Upon the successful completion of this mission, a recruit, depending on their performance, is considered a full verde and is allowed to take up the black in a ceremony upon The Brave Blood. However, to pass their Blooding, a recruit is graded on several factors.

1. Critical Thinking: If a Protector can not think for themselves in a rough situation, then they are unworthy of the title and are better off in one of the Clan battalions. Protectors pride themselves on their battlefield prowess, and a large part of that is being able to think outside the box. After all, going by the book means everyone knows what you're doing, and that gets good vode killed.

2. Brotherhood: A large part of being a Protector is the bond between him and his brothers. This bond is what allows us to do what we do. It takes the greatest love possible to protect all, and since the Protectors draw from all Clans, all ranks, and all walks of life, a Protector learns his brothers strengths, sees them at their lowest, and continues to fight for them. That is the true meaning of brotherhood.

3. Bravery: A Protector must be able to stare down danger and continue to be able to act, even through fear. After all, true bravery is overcoming fear and being able to do what is needed.

4: Combat skills: Of all of a Protector's attributes, this is one of the most important. Protectors have been known to clear out enemy groups where they are outgunned and out manned. To accomplish this, a Protector must be familiar with every type of weaponry, and be able to utilize it to its fullest potential. A minimum marksman score is required on the range, with 85% of shots counting as killshots.

5: A Sense of Justice: On a Blooding, the recruit will be called upon to confer justice. Depending on the severity of the offense, this can consist of anything from taking the suspect into custody for trial or execution on the spot. Execution is reserved for only the most heinous of offenses, and is enacted rarely.

After the Blooding, a recruit is conferred with the title of full Protector, and all of the rights and responsibilities thereof. Although in this day and age, the constant influx of temporary members renders a Blooding mission for each nonviable, those who wish to devote themselves fully to the Protectors must still undergo a Blooding.
