Rebirth of the Republic: Purple Phoenix
The Purple Phoenix is a rebellious organization of Republic citizens who have organized against non-human races, mostly composed of colonists. They're opposed to aliens living on their home planets or in their colonies, and aliens having power in the Republic government.
Origins
The roots of the Purple Phoenix insurrection can be traced back to during the First Hutt wars. The Republic Senate was attacked and sent into temporary ruin. It unsettled a large number of people, the most shaken in close proximity to the horrible event. This created doubts about how the government was being run – and public security – which became the first seed for the rebel groups creation. Although the Republic ultimately recovered, a small amount of wealthy men bigoted against aliens, including Badstar Ark, found themselves throwing meetings about what could be done in order to strengthen the Republic, even if they held no political or military power.
After a handful of meetings they were able to talk about a great amount of problems in the way the Republic was run, but the most noticeable problem, they thought, was that non-humans had been giving too much power, and had been making bad decisions that could of been avoided if a human was in the chancellor's position. They knew that they had to spread awareness of this, as they believed it was largely ignored.
Despite the risks of airing their beliefs, some Republic citizens choose to help spread the word after attending a few speeches in basements done by Badstar himself. Purple Phoenix formed shortly after that, as Badstar believed creating a group would help the possibility of changing the Republic.
The failure of the Ando Prime invasion was an event that came months after Purple Phoenix's creation, and despite the losses negative impact on the Republic, it only helped expand Purple Phoenix's ranks. Many of the people who lost their husbands, wives, friends or family found the Purple Phoenix and joined to help their cause. Even if some did not exactly feel threatened by the aliens in power, they believed that change was needed, and an rebel group provided them with hope of that change.
By the time Purple Phoenix started to make plans to become more aggressive, the first Hutt war had settled. Finally, a peace treaty ended the long conflict between the Republic and Hutts. This truce enforced an end to active hostilities but left unresolved many of the major questions that the Purple Phoenix had, such as if the Republic would last with leaders still being non-human.
When the second Hutt War started, Purple Phoenix became more active then ever. However, they were still simply a outspoken group without the means to back up their words.
Their leader, Badstar Ark, was later approached by a man and made an offer: weapons, ships, and “other means”, all to expand their influence and control would be theirs, in exchange for their cooperation, on demand. Initially suspicious, Badstar was hesitant, but he was quickly swayed by the mysterious contact.
Neither Badstar or his rebel companions knew that the man they had agreed to work with was in fact a Hutt agent. One person actually brought the possibility to the table during a discussion between the leaders, but it was hastily dismissed. Determined to get his beliefs across no matter what the cost, Badstar insisted that the Hutts would never get involved with them in fear of being found out and attacked.
Badstar Ark
Badstar Ark, also known as The Man In Purple, first held meetings in the privacy of his mansion. Having wealthy friends that shared his beliefs over to discuss how they would spread their cause among the people.
Once they decided to form a group they choose to create a name, logo, and a person who would embody both as a iconic figurehead. As the first to call a meeting, Badstar took on the task of becoming that figure. The name Rebirth of the Republic: Purple Phoenix was actually inspired by a painting done by Badstar, that hung above his fire place on display.
Of course, the concern about Badstar's non-human looking traits was brought to attention a few times, but Badstar assured his companions that he had simply had surgery, in order to repair some birth defects that ran in his family. The truth was far from it, of course, he was actually not completely human, but his family had buried that fact as far as they could. Badstar knew it was a risk to become the leader because of his secret, but wanted nothing more then to become it. He had grown up with a family who all shared the same beliefs, and they all were proud of his choice to start the rebel group. In fact, many of his family took up leadership roles within Purple Phoenix's ranks.
We can use this group to cover up some of DSS' moves. Of course, we don't 'need' another group to cover us up, but this just makes things more interesting. Sano also brought up the idea of making it a indy faction...but right now I think I want to stick with npcing them. Rather then the leader, of course, I'll post his profile and be rping him on the missions.
Seeing as we are waiting on another thing to happen before we can start BIWF, I'm going to use this time to do another mission. DSS will pay and help Purple Phoenix with some things.
So, lets discuss this. We could have them start a all-out war on the streets of with aliens. Provide Purple Phoenix with some real damaging weapons(by rping smuggling them in) and convince some of them in the group to go nuts. It would cause quite the ruckus for the Republic, and give them a introduction to the Purple Phoenix. Later we could use Purple Phoenix to cover up BIWF.
Opinions? Ideas to expand and make this more lethal? Comments on the profile written? Feel free to post, debate, dislike the idea, etc. By the way, this is a idea that was talked about in Missions, upcoming missions, ideas and more, if anyone is wondering were it came from.
