As I am sure many of you already know, the directors of the currently in production Han Solo film parted with Lucasfilm yesterday due to "creative differences" allegedly between themselves and Kathleen Kennedy. More is coming out now that pins the dispute specifically on their battles with Lawrence Kasdan over the spirit and character of Han Solo.

While it's a bummer to see two good directors go this far into filming- never a good sign for a production- I feel like I trust Kennedy and Kasdan more than this pair, even though I have liked their movies. I've been iffy on this Han Solo film since it was announced, and I still think it's got the most potential to screw up this great thing Disney has going, but the possibility of bringing in someone like Ron Howard or Kasdan himself is sort of exciting.

Discuss.

The Force Awakens sucked and this movie will too. Han Solo doesn't even need a backstory, giving him some sort of tragic event in his life that shaped him or whatever defeats the purpose of Han Solo's character, I think.

Like, give us a Boba Fett movie first at least you imbecilic cretins.

I find Boba Fett to be the least interesting character in Star Wars.

Obviously this isn't great from a production standpoint, but Lawrence Kasdan defined the character of Han Solo. He understands Han Solo. I can easily see a scenario where Lord and Miller were trying to make the movie too comedic and off the wall, which is a very surface-level and ultimately incorrect understanding of what Han Solo should be. So I would trust Kasdan on this one, and Kennedy's track record at the helm of Lucasfilm is hard to dispute.

This also points to good things about Colin Trevorrow, who isn't a great director and who has a track record of lazy, sexist writing. Between the Rogue One reshoots and firing Lord and Miller, it shows that Lucasfilm's vision trumps all and, much like the Marvel movies, directors are more project managers than high-level visionaries. If you get hired to make a Star Wars movie, you can have somewhat of a stamp but you're ultimately there to carry out Lucasfilm's vision of the films.

I'm pretty meh on the news. I don't really think we need a Han Solo movie anyway - his character is dead. Time to move on from it and let a new character drop into his iconic place in Star Wars. Not to mention, I never found him that interesting to begin with. The chaotic good, dapper rogue who was a prickly pear but grew into a true friend for the male lead and romantic interest for the female lead.

Oh wow I've never seen that before. /thinkingfaceemoji

We should have a Biggs Darklighter movie instead.

I second the motion.

I would have been more excited by a movie based on almost ANY supporting character. Biggs, Wedge- hell any of the Rogues- Boba, some ass random stormtroopers, someone new, etc. I feel like filling in too much of Han's background just detracts from the character.

But, I do agree with Brandon- Kennedy is controlling the new direction with an iron fist, which means she probably won't let anything go too far off the rails, regardless of director.

Well, it's official, we got Ron Howard. I'm a lot more excited now than I was before.

For a change there needs to be a random stormtrooper or officer movie. Finn was as close as we got to seeing how the First Order really was. We need a view from the Empire's point of view. All the other movies are about rebels winning, we need more Empire.
