BIOGRAPHY
Riyan Vrei was born on the planet Eshan, homeworld of the Echani, long after the Six Sisters fell to the Mandalorian Crusade. Riyan's parents were Resmi Vrei and her husband Aden Hesas during the rising tides of The Great Galactic War in 6407 BBY. His was, for all intents and purposes, a family of middling rank among the Echani social structure. With his mother carrying some level of prestige as a member of the ruling government of Eshan. An adamant supporter of carrying on the Echani traditions. His father on the other hand served in the Echani military and for a time advised in the training of Echani techniques some of the occupying Mandalorians before his marriage to Resmi. Of their children Riyan was the second youngest having his twin elder sister and brother Aayla and Aves ahead of him and his younger sister Ratha just a year beneath him.

Life for Riyan and his siblings was one of focused learning and disciplined combat, as was standard for most Echani youths. Years were spent in learning the foundations of the Echani art under the strict guidance of their parents. The flow of combat formed the bonds between the siblings and began to show more intrinsically their personalities than anything else. Aayla was noted to be graceful, elegant, precise. Aves on the other hand proved to be bold, straightforward, and demanding. Meanwhile young Ratha showed her inventiveness and cunning through the extensive training with her older siblings. Then lastly, of course, there was Riyan, who showed stability and understanding beyond his years as he was forced to adapt to the varied forms of his siblings. Though he was younger by three years Riyan had quickly caught up to the twins in terms of training, and largely out paced the children of his own age save a few exceptions.

Life passed at this steady pace with the conflict in the Galaxy leading the ruling Matriarchs of the Six Sisters to impress upon their people readiness should war come to Eshan space, and cooperation with the Mandalorian forces. As he turned eight Riyan began to feel a greater presence both within himself and without. There was a calling he did not quite understand, a flow to things that it seemed like only he could perceive. When he tried to discuss it with his teachers but found such questions were beyond their scope and so viewed it through their art. As such they began thinking that Riyan was developing the beginnings of a higher tier; and at such a young age they marked him a prodigy and began to focus heavily upon his training. He then turned to his siblings, who were woefully unequipped to understand what he was talking about. Lastly he turned to his mother, who finally recognized just what her son spoke of. But through her work with the Mandalorians. she knew the dangers of force sensitivity and so withheld her knowledge. Unable to know any better the young Riyan had no choice to accept this as truth, one that while held felt false within him.

For five more years he kept at this pace, having just entered the academy following the twins. There he excelled in his studies and was among the best artists in the Echani arts for the newest class. The way he felt the flow of his opponents was something rarely seen in one so young, and his ability to follow that flow earned him high praise. What was unknown to him was that through these moments of combat Riyan was unwittingly tapping into the force, allowing it to fill him and guide him in the ritualized bouts. No one had seemed to notice this save for a visiting Jedi Knight who was observing the bouts while seeking out any potential padawans to join the newly reformed order. Feigning interest in the young man's prowess, the Jedi Master Sela Tovar immediately inquired as to Riyan's identity and that of his parentage. Knowing that while his age was a risk, and his abilities rough, the Order was in desperate need of new Knights were it to fill its ranks and combat the Sith Empire. Over the course of a day Master Tovar was explaining to his parents what she had felt from their son, and asked for their permission to take him away for training to become a Knight of the Order. The three discussed at great length but in the end Master Tovar won out as the safety of Riyan would always been in question in Mandalorian space. So it was that Riyan was called forth to meet the Jedi and was presented the option to follow her. Riyan for his part couldn't explain it, but before the option was presented to him he felt he needed to go with this woman. That the question which had haunted the recesses of his mind for five long years would finally be answered with her. So it was that his fate took a turn from the safety of home, and eventual tragedy. He was thirteen when he left.

For three years he was put through an accelerated course of study by the Jedi order. While being physically fit due to the strict cultural upbringing of the Echani, spiritually he had certainly been lacking. So it was that he spent most of those three years in training with the Jedi Consulars on Al'doleem. There he worked to hone his connection to the force just as he had honed his body throughout his youth. When The Tragedy of Dantooine occurred he felt the indiscriminate deaths like a knife to the heart. But his mentors helped him to understand and accept the loss of life as tragic but a natural end. They saved him from taking the rash action and charging full on into the conflict as many of his fellow Jedi chose to do. Instead he saw reason, and a renewed sense of purpose to devoting himself to the force and restoring the balance caused by all the death and destruction meted out upon the galaxy.

Personality

Riyan's personality is not entirely easy to pin down at first glance. Exuding an aura of calm one might mistakenly peg him as being aloof or distant. In truth he is not entirely able to read people easily without strong emotional indicators; and feels it safer to present a neutral front as he observes. Growing up in, and being strongly influenced by, a culture where expression was exhibited through ritual combat Riyan doesn't feel he can truly understand a person without sparring with them. Reversely he also feels he is incapable of truly expressing himself as well and so he hesitates.

Deep down though he is a steadfast and stalwart friend and ally to those who pierce the veil he wears. Passionate in his friendships he sees those to whom he forms bonds with as akin to his own family. They are ones he can laugh with, cry with, and ultimately would die for if the situation called for it. Likewise he is equally passionate about developing his connection to the force. He sees the living force as an old friend, one to whom he just learned to communicate, and with the Jedi he hopes to continue expanding the Jedi's knowledge of the Force.

Riyan has shown to have a difficult time dealing with male authority figures. Growing up in a purely matriarchal society he tends to place more credence and faith in female leadership over male leadership. Such a deep rooted aspect of the culture has not worked itself out of him in spite of spending a couple of years now out in the galaxy at large.

Abilities and Skills

The Force: Riyan's abilities with the force took some time to develop. Unlike how many Jedi are supposed to begin their training as children. Riyan was forced to learn and develop a deeper connection to the force at a later stage in life. Still he proved an eager student once he began to realize that the thing he felt for nearly half his life was this great cosmic will that binds all life together. In so far as he has been trained Riyan has shown exceptional promise in extending his senses through the force, and is naturally inclined to augmenting his physical attributes through the force. While he grasps the basics of energy manipulation, he is by no means apt in the study. He also has almost no proficiency with healing or mental manipulation. The later of which is largely due to his inability to truly understand people so as to exert that influence on them.

It should be noted that due to his upbringing Riyan does not enter into mediation in the familiar way of most Jedi. Instead of sitting and focusing his mind one can find him moving through the basic forms of the Echani martial art to allow the force to sweep through him and carry him into that trance.

Lightsaber Combat: Riyan found himself quite comfortable with the second form of Lightsaber combat, Makashi. He tries to supplement the weaknesses of the form with the highly acrobatic form four, Ateru.

Echani Martial Arts: Trained all his life in the Echani arts Riyan is a more than capable hand to hand fighter, and is equally adept in single bladed combat and fighting with a quarter staff. Focusing on freedom of movement, agility, and precise strikes the martial art greatly assisted Riyan in learning the lightsaber forms II and IV.

Riyan is shown to be a functional pilot, and has a knack for tinkering with mechanical tools. He is also able to speak Galactic Basic, Echani, and Mando'a.
