Sith Training on Ice

“There’s yet another power I feel is important for acolytes to learn.” The old sith started. “It’s a form of battle meditation called center of being. Center of being is a defensive force power which allows one to defend from almost any attack unconsciously. To use center of being, hold your lightsaber horizontally below your chin. Close your eyes and let the Force be your senses. Needless to say, the two of you must know Force sense.”


“But my lord, neither of us now Force sense.” Ven said.


The sith shook his head. “Well then I fear for the future of the Sith Order if the overseers haven’t taught you at least that much.” He sighed. “Well, better late than never. Force sense involves using the Force to sense the world around you. It can be used to sense danger. You can also use Force sense as an extension of your senses to see through walls and in darkness. In fact Miralukas, who lack eyes, use this ability to see. You can even sense if a great many people die somewhere in the galaxy or if loved ones are in danger. This is called a disturbance in the Force.”


“To start to train Force sense, close your eyes and try to see the world around you. At your skill level you’ll only sense ripples in the Force but you will be able to sense objects, people, and droids. Try closing your eyes to see me and the two droids.”


“Yes my lord.” Ven closed his eyes and strained to view through the Force. At first he only sensed a cloudy shapes. Ven focused harder and harder until he felt the distinct shapes of the two droids and the holocron.


“Well done acolyte Ven. Now then, acolyte Valatrux.”

Valatrux began to focus as he closed his eyes, reaching out with the force to touch, feel, and sense what he can not see. The silhouettes of the droids and the old Sith mentor at first were blurry and hard to make out. As he reached deep he began to notice them taking a more formed shape, the fuzziness died down as the world around him began to form more clearly. Even without sight Valatrux could see, even things that sight hinders you from seeing. The cold hum of the droids echoed in his head, and the steady streams of light rays producing the holocron's old Sith had radiated to him much differently than his normal perception would have allowed.
"Good young acolyte, can you not see what you only had a small glimpse of before. In this perspective it sheds a much different light on the universe and the force around us" The Sith Mentor professed.

“Well then, now that the two of you know Force sense, I can finally teach the two of you center of being. As I said before, hold your saber horizontally beneath your chin while closing your eyes. Let the Force be your eyes and let it be your shield. This power generally finds more use among users of more defensive saber forms such as Form III. However, that does not mean it is useless for those who use other forms.” The hologram snapped his fingers and the two droids again assumed the forms of rebel soldiers and pointed their pistols at the two acolytes. “Now let’s see how well you two do with this.” One of the droids fired five shots at Ven.


Ven had gotten into position. Still, the five shots surprised him. What surprised him even was how easily the Force allowed him to deflect the bolts. The Force gave him so much clarity that he he could predict the path of the bolts. “Well done young acolyte. Now then acolyte Valatrux.” The second droid fired at him.

Taking up his position, he raised his saber with closed eyes. The droids fired, and the force guided the saber deflecting all the bolts successfully. Valatrux was impressed with himself and with the capabilities the force possesses.
"Well done, you two will make fine Crusaders. Now I want you to test what we have learned today on eachother, the duel will test all the skills you learned today. I will be watching and only my word alone ends the test. Now, start at opposing ends and on my word show me what you have learned." The Old Sith instructed them.
Valatrux stood across the training hall from Ven, his peer that he must now spar with all he has learned. Both formidable, and Valatrux respects formidable warriors.

Ven heard the Sith’s words and turned towards Valatrux. “You ready?” Ven asked. He didn’t wait for a reply and instead rushed at Valatrux with his blade pointed forward at normal speed. There was no need to rush for what he planned. He feigned a diagonal slash to Valatrux’s right shoulder and then just at the last moment, collapsed his blade, and used Force cloak. Ven dived behind Valatrux’s left and recovered in a crouching position.

Valatrux was caught off guard by the feigned move but quickly rolled out of Ven's reach after his dive behind him. He summoned a burst of speed and lunged with a flurry of attacks hoping to wear Ven down.

Ven was surprised at Valatrux’s ferocity. Even while invisible Ven still had a hard time defending against the blows. He was forced to extend his saber to ward them off. To an observer it looked like Valatrux was doing battle with a flying lightsaber. Ven decided that fighting Valatrux head on like this was a losing proposition. Valatrux’s sheer ferocity made him difficult to fight. Ven decided to take an indirect approach. He caught one of Valatrux’s blows with a horizontal high guard. He turned his lightsaber vertically and pushed it to his right, trying to get Valatrux’s blade out of the way. He took his hand off of his saber momentarily to throw a Force push at Valatrux’s chest. In the same motion he jumped backwards and collapsed his saber. Now he was completely invisible. Now it was his turn to attack. He filled his legs with the Force and jumped to his left so he was at a forty-five degree angle from Valatrux’s centerline. He lowered his lightsaber, still collapsed, to offensive neutral and rushed forward with the Force. When he was close to Valatrux he turned visible and extended his lightsaber. Ven had his lightsaber down like a lance inteding to stab Valatrux. The point was about three feet from Valatrux.

Ven using a combination of a parry and force push caught Valatrux off guard giving them space. Suddenly Ven disappeared, his presence still felt however but hard to pinpoint. As Ven apparitated Valatrux was still a little lost, but was able to force jump enough to escape the stab. Running out of options Valatrux threw his saber at Ven with precision combining it with a force push as well hoping to overwhelm Ven.
