Petar Anjiliac had been a Lorda in the Hutt Cartel for decades, overseeing the vast expansion of his familial operations throughout that time, leading to his family, the House of Anjiliac becoming the single greatest distributor of Spice of all kinds in the Galaxy. As such, he did not normally make time for anyone other than his accountant, majordomo, or senior familial members, however today he had made an exception - for the Supreme Mogul himself had suggested that he and Davik Lorsa (@Ecclessey) should meet, or at least that is what the letter from the Imperial-Hutt Ambassador has said.

Gesturing for one of his Guards to open the door to his throne room, the Hutt looked up from his accounts check - confirming that profits once again where up - as he saw the man approach. The Guards tensed in the room, glowering at the man as he approached their master, whilst the Hutt himself simply chose to not acknowledge his presence until he spoke....

Davik had seen this moment coming for a few weeks now, ever since his promotion to the overseer of Kessel, as Clan Anjiliac had often prompted him to make use of their clan's smugglers or their spice manufactories. That he was now summoned to the palace of Lorda Petar meant that it was no longer a suggestion that Clan Anjiliac would handle process, transport and sell the spice that was mined from the recently acquired astoroid. Whatever the current political spectrums the Hutt Council was shifting to under the new Mogul, everyone knew the head of the Anjiliacs was too greedy to give Kessel back to the Empire and relinquish the profits that were still to be gained from the energy spiders that mass produced in those caverns.

Knowing all of this, Davik was well aware the tough spot he was in if he were to refuse handing the mines over to the Anjiliacs. Loyalty to the cartel was all good en well, but it wasn't something to lose your head over. As such, when he stepped into the throne room of the Anjiliac there was one man more tense than the Hutt's guards, and that was Davik himself. Having to take a moment, unnoticable from those gathered except for maybe the Hutt, to make sure his voice would not quiver as he spoke, Davik bowed respectfully "Most venerable and admirable Lorda Petar, head of the Anjiliac and true King of Spice and future overlord of piracy." he said, basically kissing the Hutts feet and being as humble as possible. "Forgive me my brashness, but I could not come here without a gift from Kessel." he continued and retrieved, slowly, to not alarm the guards, a pure green gemstone with a perfectly engraved energy spider on one side. One could say about Davik what they wanted, but no one could deny that under his watchful eye the spice mines on Kessel ran smoothly and with ever increasing profits. It was a mere dot on the screen of bigger things, but for those involved in the mining and manufactoring of spice, it meant something. @Nor'baal

Eyes widening as he saw the gift that the man had come to give him, the Hutt could feel himself warming to the man. He had not however got this far in his life by trusting people due to paltry bribes. Ordering his assistant to take the gift from Davik, the Hutt spoke <Your pleasantries are welcome.> he responded to the man, before reprimanding him <It is shame you cannot speak the greater language of Huttese, especially in my company however.> lowing the tone in the room somewhat.

As the assistant scuttled off to store the gift from Davik, the Hutt spoke once more <Do you know why you are here?> he demanded from the man, obviously knowing Davik would not know, before speaking once more <I demand that you surrender the mines of Kessel into the House of Anjiliac...immediately.>

Davik could curse himself for this oversight as he spoke Huttese as a near native speaker, which was a very difficult thing to master. Ofcourse, the Lorda's demand came as expected and Davik's answer came without hesitation and in perfect Huttese this time "Kessel is yours." he bowed again and continued in Huttese "I've taken the liberty to instruct operations to be handed down to representatives from your clan."

There it was. He had lost his temporary position as interim-overseer of the Kessel spice mines, a position in which he had flourished and brought him plenty of credits for him to live out his life in relative luxury. Now all he had to do was get out of this meeting with his head still firmly on his shoulders and he could retire to Hoth with his two slaves to keep him warm in the planet's cold climate. He was glad that during his hunting trip with Nor'baal One-eye he had managed to acquire some bantha hides for additional comfort. All in all, Davik Lorso was ready to retire his life of crime. If he was lucky, he might even be able to return to his birthname Lester DeWitt.

As Lorda of the Anjiliac Clan, Petar Anjiliac had a few reasons in his life to celebrate, as the vast majority of his day to day activities consisted of counting income receipts, ordering the deaths of slaves and debtors, and having dull meetings with others. However today the Hutt made an exception to his rule, and laughed.

<Good Davik, you please me with this news!> he chortled jubilantly, as in his head images of the trillions of Credits that Kessel would bring his family rolled past. Of course, it was also important for the Hutt to remember that he himself would much rather not do any of the work involved with owning the mines, and as such he would be delegating the responsibilities to others - however Davik would not be one of them.

Gesturing for the man to approach, he made another offer to Davik <However of course, I will need your experience, as an adviser to my personage.> he said, saying finally <And what would you require in return for these services.>

Shattered. Davik's dream to retire and hang his blaster on the wall to never be used again was shattered by the mere gesture of the Hutt telling him to approach. The offer, or rather the forceful promotion, had the former Coruscant Intelligence Officer swallow air down his dry throat. It was a position that suited him much more than combat and murder, as he could finally put his affinity with languages and extensive training in subterfuge to good use in such a role. Still, was he ready to serve the council so directly and would he survive the scrutiny? It was a good thing the cartel was filled with motherless bastards and refugees without official papers from their war-ravaged planets, so Davik's past was secure from any curious parties. Still, he knew that Petar wasn't really offering a position that could be denied and that Davik's answer should not only be short but also free of doubt. His reply, therefore, followed yet another bow "I'm honored to serve as your advisor, Lorda Petar" he said in Huttese and as he straightened his back again he pondered over his next words. He knew that Hutts liked to see ambition in their underlings as to be sure they'd drive for the best possible bargains, but at the same time sounding too ambitious could cost him his head in the bartering process. "For the acquisition and allocation of my property in order to offer you my full potential, I shall require two million in credits." he spoke in Huttese and in the sufficiently vague terms one of Petar's species would use when opening up a subject for bartering, something Davik hoped the Hutt would appreciate his new advisor to be capable of. What it boiled down to was that Davik would use a bunch of credits to redecorate his penthouse on Nar Shaddaa and his second home close to wherever the head of the Anjiliacs was. Everything else was for spice and slaves.

Petar did not really care if he had upset the man, indeed he did not really care about much other than himself and his bank balance. Of course you're honored, he thought to himself as he considered the penny change that the man had requested for his fee. He was half tempted to pull the usual 'How dare you ask for money from a Hutt!' routine, however he had a feeling there was little point in this occasion.

2,000,000 was not exactly a great deal of money for a Hutt of his standing, and therefore he was tempted to agree anyway, but that just wouldn't be right at all - so out of character considered the Hutt. <You will live here, and therefore I shall offer you the use of a private apartment in this Palace, and lower your fee to 1.5 million galactic credits to purchase your other home, and other additions if you wish for them.> he replied.

Bowing, Davik once again adressed Petar in Huttese "You're most generous, milord."

There wasn't much reason to haggle when he was offered free housing in one of the most secure palaces in Hutt space and one point five million in credits he wouldn't even know how and where to spend. In retrospect of his earlier fear, this new position might just offer him the luxurious lazy living he'd always hoped for. But what was he supposed to do now? He couldn't just leave, as the Hutt told you when to approach and when to get out and it wasn't something you were supposed to just do without permission. Therefore, Davik waited, he waited for the Hutt to dismiss him.

Pleased with the man having accepted his new position within his court, Petar moved to address the matters at hand, namely the recent change in the Supreme Mogul position, as well as the conflicts within the Cartel Council, being fought in the shadows. Of course, if Davik was up to date on Council Affairs, he would know that the Council supported the Supreme Mogul fully, and so he asked <The Supreme Mogul, what do you think of his policy of non-alignment? And more more importantly, what do you think the House of Anjiliac should do, support the rebels, or the empire?>

Lured into a false sense of security, Davik was alarmed by the sudden request to take a stance on the big galactic policies that had been the main reason for Addipos' downfall. He didn't show his sudden anxiety, as his intelligence training allowed him to succesfully bar anyone from reading his emotions if he didn't want them to. He did take a few moments to overtly ponder the question as he weighed the rumors in measure of truths. Clan Anjiliac had under Petar's rule remained indifferent to the galactic wars, having been focused on Hutt Space and spicing profitis and neither required a fierce stand to be taken. The Supreme Mogul, ofcourse, stirred things up as his predecessor was very much against the Empire and apparently plotted actively for its demise. Naturally, Davik next words should not be in favor of a pro-rebellion attitude for the Hutt clans, which left only one real option considering the considerable investment they had already made. Namely to support the Supreme Mogul's policy.

In Huttese, Davik replied "There's an immense fortune to be made by not allowing yourself to be aligned to either faction. One would not be able to lose upon the defeat of one or the other, but the war itself provides too many good opportunities for profit to deny them all by neutrality." he paused and smiled slightly "I think House Anjiliacs could profit greatly if able to do business on planets regardless whether they belong to the Empire or support the Rebellion. Spice, after all, is a universal vice sought after by every sentient touched by the horrors and stress of war. Clan Anjiliac should, as such, support both, in secret."

Pausing before he spoke, and raising a pudgy hand to instruct that his Hookah bearing slave should approach him, the Anjiliac was pleased with the response that his newest minion had given him. Taking a large drag on the pipe, Petar found himself forgetting what the creatures name was, Darren? Davik? he should probably give him a name badge...

Regardless, the man was correct in his advice, and it was indeed beneficial in the eyes of the Hutt to remain neutral in the forthcoming war. <And how might we go about ensuring this neutrality is maintained, whilst making sure we do not weaken our Cartel?> he asked.

Neutrality? Davik thought, realizing that the Hutt may not have been listening as closely as his newest advisor had hoped. "Clan Anjiliacs business is spice and piracy, both can be easily done without a recognizable flag pointing towards your gracious self or the cartel. I say we work the spice trade through a patsy and a middle man and take them out when they've lost their usefulness." he replied in Huttese.

The stress and anxiety Davik had felt earlier had made him hungry and eager to try some spice himself. As such he was hoping this meeting wouldn't take much longer.

Satisifed that the man had answered the questions to the best of his ability - which was considerable indeed - the Hutt nodded, before moving off to his private apartments. Without a word, the door sealed behind him, and a tottering droid approached Davik, a data-slate in its hand. ''The Might Petar has retired for the evening, and imn his mercy grants you leave to depart. Welcome to the House of Anjiliac.'' it finishing, before handing Davik the slate, which held upon it his contract, as well as payment and the location of his new home.
