Kraan sat silently in the training room, he was pretty nervous about this entire ordeal. He had already been trained as a Berserker, what use would this type of training be anyway? Then again it was wise to resort to multiple forms of combat. Suddenly the training room doors slid open...

Venator raised one hand to his belt, slotting the blaster back into it's holster in a smooth, fluid movement, the blaster sliding into the holster with a smooth snick, joining the array of weapons he wore upon his belt. Looking up from the surface of his red armour, Venator looked around the armoury in which he was re-stocking his supplies of weapons. Satisfied at last, Venator quickly stepped across the room, inhaling the scent of cordite and gunpowder as he did so, before quickly checking how long he had before he had to be at the lists, in order to train the apprentice he'd been assigned to. An apprentice. A new concept for Venator. Deciding to think about that once outside in the air, Venator quickly pushed his key card into the slot, sliding it along, the door responding with a beep and sliding open pneumatically as he opened the door and stepped outside, breathing in the fresh air as he strode across.

Gazing out into the blue sky above, Venator paused and muttered angrily to himself. Why was he taking on an apprentice? What could he gain from this? It was only because it had been Van Tien assigning him to take this apprentice himself that he had taken it. Had it been anyone lower, or had it been anyone else, Venator would have instantly refused it. Although apprentices could be valuable assets after they'd progressed, they could also be betrayers, usurpers, and ones not to be trusted. Venator knew that as well as any. He wouldn't be teaching this new person everything he knew. Always good to keep a few surprises hidden, so that any attempts at usurping could be quickly and easily quelled. That was always necessary.

As Venator reached the other side of the courtyard, he quickly moved into the training lists, in which the various training rooms were situated. As he moved down the corridor, an Alsakan private - Venator could never remember his name - hastily moved out of his way in fear of a retribution from above, but the Alsakan Major had better things on his mind than punishing the private for sadistic enjoyment; that could wait for some other time. His heavy duty army boots rang out across the corridor, inducing a faint smell of leather, blood and sweat - the boots needed to be washed - as he strode onwards, ignoring those about him, heading for the training room his charge had been assigned to. He'd been told he was a Wookiee, which shouldn't be a problem. Venator spoke Shyriiwook, and was more than capable of dealing with the hulking, furry creatures.

As he entered the training room, Venator stood in the doorway looking down upon the Wookiee Kraan, the Wookiee reaching up to his chest in height even sitting down. Venator was a tall man, but Wookiees were just something else. Staying silent for a few moments longer, Venator allowed his authority to pervade the room as neither Wookiee nor Zeltron said anything for a few moments, before Venator finally spoke. "I presume you're Kraan." It wasn't a question. It was a statement. As Venator watched the Wookiee for a moment, he continued on soon after. "I'm your master. That's what you may refer to me as for the time being. Let's start with a question: Why're you here, what's your experience, and why on Earth should I train you?"

The door slid open and a figure walked into the training room, the figure was male and very tale with a grim frown on his face. Kraan instantly respected the man, he was strict and disciplined and from what Kraan could tell from the outside atmosphere he was feared. Surprisingly the Zeltron could speak Shryiiwook, which again added onto Kraan’s level of respect for the Zeltron for he had taken precious time and patience to flawlessly learn his native tongue. As he spoke the Zeltron showed signs of curiosity and some disappointment.

“Let’s start with a question: Why're you here, what's your experience, and why on Earth should I train you?” Venator’s voice showed signs of insult as if to falter Kraans confidence, the Alsakan major had yet to learn something about this particular wookiee. In a series of grunts, growls and roars Kraan replied back: “I’m here to be trained in the Alsakan way of combat, I have been trained in survival skills, strategic tactics and Berserker training. And as I recall I didn’t ask to be trained, it is merely standard procedure that I’m to go through with…master”.

"Yeah, it's standard procedure." Venator began coldly. Despite the fact that he'd been assigned to train this Wookiee, he didn't have to respect him or treat him kindly. Respect had to be learnt, and Venator was a hard man to please. "But I don't give a damn if you've been forced here - you're an Alsakan now. You should want to be trained so you can punish those Republic bastards more than if you were weaker and less experienced. If you're only reason for being here is because you have to, get the hell out of here right now. I'm not wasting my time on someone who's not committed. We're Alsakans. We better ourselves to cause the Republic more pain, not because we have to. Are we clear with this?" Venator made sure his voice didn't broach any argument as he said so.

"If you do choose to continue on, it's time we established some rules. I am your master. You're expected to respond to me with appropriate humility, and that title is to be used at all times. No nicknames or anything else derogatory. I'm not your mother, I'm your master. Let's get this straight: I don't want to train you or any other new, weak soldier who joins the Alsakans. If Van Tien hadn't asked me to, I wouldn't have. As it is, he has, and so I shall give you the best training I can offer, but I want you to make sure you appreciate that. Mess me around, fail to show me appropriate humility or any of the other things I don't like and I'll make sure you feel the appropriate punishment for what you've done. I hope that too is clear."

Pausing, Venator allowed the Wookiee to catch up on what he was saying. He doubted the Wookiee would have much problems, considering Venator was speaking with Shyriiwook, but he didn't want any misunderstandings with this. "Finally, another thing I will not tolerate is failure. This is the Alsakan Union, and failure is not something we need, not something we welcome nor is it something that benefits us. I don't expect any serious failures, and all failures will be punished. Hopefully this will mean that, should you have the mettle to progress, you'll be a better soldier. Are we absolutely clear, Kraan? No complications or questions whatsoever?"

Kraan was awed by the ferocity of his master, on his homeworld Venator could be easily trained as a Berserker, if it weren’t for his size and stature.
“Yes Master. Crystal” he had now just officially apologised for showing backbone and now that his master had just insulted him by calling him weak, it was clear now that he was one not to be messed with.

“Yes Master, I do appreciate this training”. Now Kraan felt like a whimpering pup but if he was to earn the respect of his new master he’d better follow every order that his master gave.

Venator went onto speaking about failure, Kraan knew about failure but had yet to experience it, but all he knew was that for a warrior it is the greatest pain ever experienced. As his master finished Kraan took everything in and memorised it. “No master I have no questions” said Kraan once again in his respective tone.

Venator nodded once, quickly and sharply. "Good. Incessant questions annoy me. Those with a quicker grasp of general concepts tend to do better here than others. Let's hope you too go that way." As Venator finished his curt response, he smiled to himself beneath his helmet. Wookiee's were meant to have back bone, and meant to have a sense of honour, but it seemed this one was content to just sit there and let Venator insult his strength before sucking up to him like a slug from the Outer Rim. Whatever the title of Beserker meant, it clearly didn't show back bone, strength and confidence. This Wookiee would need to severely buck up his ideas if he were to survive. Yes, he should respect Venator as a master, but not to this extent. "Now, onto our first topic. What weapons do you prefer to use in combat and what's your preferred fighting style? I want you to give me three different fighting styles you use and name the different situations in which you use them."

As soon as his master mentioned combat techniques, Kraan shot up from the ground almost over-joyed. From his back Kraan took his bladed tonfa's and spinned them around practising his grip. "These are my bladed-tonfas, standard-issue for all wookiee berserkers, I'm going to demonstrate what I call the Ryuu-Tak Technique, I'd advise you to step back", Kraan opened the demonstration with a simple opening stance, tensing his muscles Kraan done some quick attacks and then started doing advanced parry's.

"That's my demonstration for my Tonfa's, the Ryuu-Tak technique I use is mainly used for battlefields as it provides offensive and defensive options" Kraan let his combat technique seep into his masters mind. "Actually there is one question Master, where's the firing range?" Kraan smiled a little, looking forward to use his Boltcaster again.

Venator stood, coldly, stepping back to avoid the exuberant Wookiee's blades. "The firing range?" His voice was sharp and reprimanding. "We'll get to it soon enough. When the hell did I say we were going there this instant? I asked you to name me three fighting styles, and tell me where you'd use them. Showing me them wasn't what I asked for, but that doesn't matter. The point is, you didn't do what I said. If this were a mission, you'd be one step closer to insubordination, which could have you executed." Venator looked at the Wookiee coldly. "As it's your training, I won't punish you that badly, but you will be punished. I'll remember this incident and any subsequent ones, and you'll be punished at the end, before I tell you if you've passed or not." Venator paused to allow the Wookiee, if he would, to quail. "Now, I'll ask you again: name me three fighting styles, and tell me where you'd use them."

Kraan felt embarrased but did not care, he was new and new guys always make mistakes. "Ryuu-Tak, simple combat technique for bladed tonfas. Used in most situtiations. Shot-Nine, advanced blaster/bowcaster technique. Used in ranged objectives. And my last technique the Rip-thy-enemies-to-bits, a technique used for wookiee claws. Used in bar-brawls." Kraan stood silent now waiting for his master to speak.

"Better. I don't expect you to fail again. One day, you'll thank me for this, when you're a better soldier than all of the other weak layabouts who're new to the Alsakan Union. It just might take you a while to see it." Venator laughed humourlessly. He was enjoying this. Sadism. Such a brilliant thing. "Good. Now it's time to show me what you can do with weapons. Follow me." Without waiting for the Wookiee to rise, Venator strode off down the corridor, ignoring those about him until he reached the door at the far end of the corridor that led to the training ground outside. Hopefully, it would be empty. It was always annoying to have to share something with some other new, weak and foolish soldier. Progress was always so much slower and so much less.

The air outside hit Venator like a punch, albeit weaker and without the physical aspect, the wind outside having risen to gale force with the weather conditions so prone to changing around the training compound, situated on a geographical hotspot for weather changes. Venator paused for a moment, feeling the wind, and smiling to himself as he imagined the Wookiee struggling and being whipped by his own hair, as well as having his own hair attempt to drag him along. Railings had been situated so that it wasn't possible to fall for this very reason. Venator's heavy armour encompassed both his body and hair as well as weighing him down, allowing him to cope unscathed. Smiling, Venator picked up his pace again before changing his course for one of the interior training rooms. The distraction of the wind wouldn't help with the training.

Arriving outside, Venator listened carefully, his ears straining to hear if the sound of combat from others inside echoed out before deciding that no one else was inside and entering, setting up the dummies and training holograms for use. He imagined the Wookiee was standing behind him from the noise of someone entering, and he began to speak at last. "Alright, it's time to show me those fighting styles and how you utilise them. I've set up the holograms each to use one of the three different circumstances; you won't know which one until they attack. You have to destroy them all to even hope of completing your training. It'll be an instant fail if you mess this one up as well. Whenever you're ready, begin. It's voice calibrated; just saying 'start' will begin one of them."

Kraan followed Venator down the corridors, his assumptions were correct his master was feared. When Kraan stepped outside he thought for a moment he was home, the wonderful gale force winds blew his fur in different directions. His master explained to him how the training program worked, just a simple command and one out of three of the combat simulations would be activated.
Kraan cracked his knuckles and checked his boltcaster before uttering:
"Start"

The first hologram flicked on, a Rodian with a cortosis knife in one hand and a mug of Corellian ale in the other stumbled towards him. Kraan merely picked up the hologram by both arms and stretched them until the Rodian cried out in simulated pain.
The second hologram flicked on, nine armed Republic soldiers stood in front of him. In a computerised voice they shouted "Arms up!", Kraan picked up his bowcaster and fired repeatedly at the holograms which fell to the ground instantly. Finally the holograms switched to a more difficult opponent, a heavily-armoured republican soldier carrying a repeating blaster. Kraan equipped his tonfas and sprinted to his enemy who attempted a melee attack at Kraan, Kraan parried and stabbed the soldier repeatedly until the holographic armour splintered and the enemy fell to the ground.

The holograms flickered, it was now time for his masters judgement, personally Kraan thought he'd done well but he'd had time to prepare...

Venator nodded appraisingly. "Good. Now, do it again but without your weapons." This would test just how Kraan could cope without the aid of manufactured materials like blasters or weapons aiding him; this would purely test his ability and would purely test how good he was with initiative, physical strength and his bare hands. "I don't want failure. You'll get one shot at this; no more. Fail, and you're down and out. I'm not a forgiving master." Venator remained impassive beneath his armour as he said such heartless words; heartless was one way of describing Venator...
