The Jedi came in her youth. Mi, as the other boys and girls called her, could hardly speak. She was troubled in more ways than one, and the appearance of those special traits that many in the galaxy had come to know was eventually noticed. With no more a say in things than her arrival here, it was deemed that the child would be taken by that old order. Luckily, she had been found by them before any else.
Ten years passed in toil for both master and apprentice. A teen girl, with neither home nor thing, was well upon her path of training under the watchful eye of the Order. Thankful was Mi'ya for her chance to become something greater. Ever-passionate was she in her studies, and with great care she dedicated herself to the ways of the Force. By fourteen, she was seen as somewhat of a prodigy in her age group: a fact that perhaps spurred her down a path most unwise.
Imagine the mind of this child, for a moment. At once there was nothing: no family, no home, and certainly no things. Then, there were many faces, and a thousand and one words. Eventually, the mind of a girl consumed by study and by exercise in the Force eventually fell upon a Darkness. It would perhaps be no wonder that she should be so troubled.
Yet it was not the end for Mi'ya. Most, if not all Jedi, come upon these thoughts at some point. Even the great names lost to most, survived only by the Holocrons that whispered their odd names, would recount these lessons. Mi was not left to her own devices, nor set upon a path without return. A wise Master, seeing the betrayal of the mind, was quick to come to her aid, and with great assistance she became whole in the Force again.
It was not to last, though. By seventeen, Mi came again to this place of Darkness. Soon there were questions. Questions that Masters did not give her worthwhile answers for. Troubled again, but this time descending rapidly, an attempt was made by a Master to abscond her from her wicked path, but confrontation chose to ignite a flame once thought smothered.
Enlightened was the mind of Mi'ya Af Ath to a greater existence in the Force: one free of Light or Dark. With great purpose Mi sought to leave the temple where she had spent her childhood, with a Holocron of her own in hand. Though her Master ensured she escaped empty-handed, both duelists did not emerge unharmed—though Mi'ya was scarred in more ways than one. From this space she brooded over her treatment by Masters who knew nothing of her circumstance, and soon the thought of freedom from Light or Dark became no more than the dream of a girl who knew no things.

To such ends, Miya is often rather openly arrogant. Her beliefs are correct to her, and her way transcends right and wrong. Despite her instability, Mi is well-behaved and keeps her thoughts (mostly) to herself. Her arrogance is checked; clearly she has some manner of self-awareness, but to challenge her ideals would be to spell horror for any that oppose her—at least, if you were to ask her about it.
Competitive to a fault—a trait present even during her days walking the Light—Mi does not take kindly to losing. Just as well, she is hard on herself in all things, constantly pushing for greater heights, often at the cost of herself. This has led to a great deal of skills in varying fields: Slicing, shooting, and other practical skills are givens. Even more artistic endeavors have become the subjects of her fancy, a hand for art particularly prevalent among the litany of personal skills that Miya keeps in a back pocket.
Every rose has it thorns, but just as well, even the thorniest of roses has its petals. Miya is, in a phrase, self-centered, but soft spots are prevalent with any that she may come to care about. She believes in passion as much as she does in power, and those that come to truly know Mi may see past the veil that she cloaks herself within. Then again, they may not, as the shroud is made of many layers, and many of them are different in composition. An enigma to understand, though simple to pity.
