A little ambiance

The Blazing Claw
As long as there has been commerce, there has been pirates. They can range in success from lowly bandits to veritable kings and queens, the scourges of hyperlanes and spaceports. But as long as there have been pirates, there have been those that hunt them, and no matter how fearsome or clever a single pirate may be, most retire from piracy in a coffin. And that was why this little coalition was founded, to create a band of legendary raiders and pirates to surpass what any single corsair could do.

History

Despite all the pomp and prestige, the Blazing Claw was actually founded by a band of belligerent, largely drunken pirates in a dirty watering hole on Takodana. After much inebriated deliberation, the group came to a sort of alliance, agreeing to aid and each other in times of peril to create a group stronger than any single captain. Rules were established, code of conduct enacted, and courses of action decided on. Now organized and ready for action, the Claw has taken to the stars in search of profit, power, and prestige.

The Code

As strange as it might sound, even pirates need rules to keep each other in line. Without something that resembles rules, a group of raiders such as this would no doubt descend into chaos.
  1. All members of the Blazing Claw are entitled to one vote in all democratic matters. Otherwise, the word of the Admiral and their First Mate is final and must be obeyed by all. Any Admiral may, however, by replaced with any member of the Blazing Claw by unanimous vote.
  2. Members shall put one fifth share of all plunder into a public fund, to be used only for the advancement and support of the entire group and its assets.
  3. Any member of the Blazing Claw found withholding funds from, stealing from, defrauding, deserting, or outright betraying the group will be subject to judgement by the council.
  4. All arguments among members of the Claw are to be settled by the Admiral's ruling..
  5. No crew member may retire until they have made 50,000 credits in plunder, unless otherwise incapacitated by injury, accident, or age.
Ranks

The Blazing Claw is run by a council of pirate captains who oversee the major operations of the group.
Admiral: The elected head of the Claw the Admiral serves as the leader of the group both in port and in battle. Those elected to this coveted rank are often chosen for their strength, guile, and savagery in combat.
First Mate: The second-in-command of the Blazing Claw, the First Mate of the Admiral is hand-picked to help them maintain their control over the group.
Captain:
Some among the Blazing Claw control their own ships, and have crewmates of their own.
Crewmate:
The rank-and-file of the Claw, the members of each pirate crew that serve as gunners, boarding parties, and spacers.

Roster
Assets
Having only recently formed, the Blazing Claw only has access to the assets which they have brought to the table, those being their ships, crews, and credits.
  • Remowa's X-01 Hammerhead-Class Corvette, The Cruel Mistress, and the 22 person crew.
  • Takodana: This far-flung pirate haven is currently the only port friendly to the Blazing Claw.
Intent
The intent of the Blazing Claw is to create a pirate faction for fun and profit, but with a twist. Unlike previous factions this is meant to take a classical position on the pirate group, a confederation of independent pirates all working together ala the Republic of Pirates or the Brethren of the Coast. The diversity of motivations, techniques, and styles should create interesting faction politics and in-thread action.

Everyone is a leader? Everyone commands a ship? Difficult to do threads. My personal suggestion is to focus on crew of a main ship (there can be NPC ships for flavor). The commodore's flagship, letting commodore be FL, and captain serve as AFL. Allows to build a closer knit group. After that if faction consistently holds activity I'd approve many manned ships. I'd also would like hard numbers

I am working on getting you those crew and ship numbers, but for now I want to explain the ranking system a bit.

Not every captain commands a frigate or a corvette in battle or has a massive crew. A captain is just someone with their own ship (and possibly crew) with which they can plunder. My entire idea for this faction was to have a rag-tag band of small-time pirates come together under one banner for greater profit and protection. All of the characters on our roster are, in fact, captains of a ship, and having them forgo their own vessels just to rid around in one wouldn't make much sense. I recognize, however, my initial ranking system was a little laissez faire, so I've implemented a new one.

The elected Admiral leads the group, aided by Commodore enforcers, giving orders to individual Captains and Crewmates.

What do you think so far?

I'm imagining this a lot like the pirates in pirates of the Caribbean or the ravagers in guardians of the galaxy. one could have a corvette or "flagship" and then dozens if not hundreds of people onboard. a few freighters maybe or assault ships with captains but i don't think everyone should be captain. if everyone can be a captain i would make sure to advertise something below captain just like how Sith have acolytes, jedi have padawans, etc. so characters have the option to start at a lower rung and work their way up if they want to.

for example. My character Zeff i'm thinking might just be a member of the crew to another captain. He recently left the sith in the past few years and might have a single star fighter and property of his own but that wouldn't make him a captain.
