Mandalorian Protectors:

The Protectors are an old name, almost as old as the Mandalorians themselves. Protector names ring Mandalorian history, linked to their people by blood, sweat, and pain. The Protectors of modern times maintain many of the old traditions, although their numbers have become incredibly large, to a level the original Protectors could never have imagined. Having forsaken the mercenary creed set forth for them by Boba Fett, they now fight only for their people.

After fading into obscurity for almost a 1000 years, the Protectors were resurrected by Carien Bralor during her short term as Mand’alor, and very quickly rose to the fore by benefit of their combat skills, dedication, and utter ruthlessness in protecting the Mandalorian way of life. Led by the Sol’yc Cabur, the Protectors are on a constant vigil for threats, and when one is found, strike it down with their trademark speed and efficiency.

During the early years, the Protectors were few in number, and reserved for the most dangerous actions, where utter ruthlessness and dedication were needed. Taking on varied foes, from traitors, to stray pirate bands, and even opposing the Death Watch, the Protectors proved their mettle in combat, their dedication to their people, and their honor time and time again. For their dedication, their forces were expanded, and their responsibilities grew, until the Protectors were a mainstay in Mandalorian life. It is a common sight to see a warrior in black beskar’gam, moving among their people, ever vigilant for trouble.

After their reformation, the Protector’s functioned as a police force in their primary capacity, a tradition continued to this day, guarding Mandalorian interests and resolving Mandalorian concerns, asking for no recognition, and no laurels, before fading back to their mobile bases. Forgoing ranks, each Protector is a warrior, fighting as equals with their brothers, united as one in their purpose. Individual commands may be given to a Protector for exceptional service, but while this may add a title, their standing among their brothers remains equal.

A Protector’s responsibility is wide and varied, encompassing all facets of Mandalorian life. As keepers of the peace, they are a mobile force, with multiple ships spread throughout Mandalorian space. Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Investigations, peace keeping, guard duty, spreading the Mandalorian teachings (Resol'nare), and general preservation of Mandalorian culture. To fulfill this mandate, the Protectors operate as an individual entity, free from many constrictions, such as the internal politics and strife of the more structured clans. Answerable only to Mand’alor himself, the Protectors have been taught that they are a shield, meant to guard their people from all that may harm them, and consider this to be a sacred duty.

This shield has many aspects, from manning Mandalorian outposts, to initial interdiction, to assisting in the capture and sentencing of lawbreakers. To break one's honor is to betray one's clan, and The Protectors specialize in bringing these wayward Mandalorians to face sentencing.

As the first line of defense for the Mandalorian people, the Protectors have access to the best technology available through MandalMotors and its subsidiary corporations. From ships to weapons and everything in between, the Protectors have mastered them all. Many new technologies are sent to the Protectors for field testing, giving them an edge in combat, allowing them the element of surprise against the strongest foes. More than one enemy has been felled by an unknown weapon, their evil cut short.

Operating from their flagship, the Dreadnought Darasuum Tor, the Protectors stand vigilant at the edges of Mandalorian Space, operating a wide range of ships, space stations, and defense platforms. Each of these is commanded by a full Protector, who had shown their worth in multiple engagements, and has been given the opportunity to test their skill in a new venue. This is considered a duty, rather than an honor, and each Protector views this as the greatest expression of devotion.

Unlike the other clans, The Protectors do not strive for glory, and instead consider themselves warrior-servants, ready to meet the needs of their people, whatever it may entail. Although unpopular with some facets of the Mandalorians, The Protectors take their duty in stride, exemplifying the Mandalorian tenants, and showing the galaxy the true honor of the Mandalorians.

After the war with the GA, the Protectors fell back to Mandalorian Space, nurturing and growing their forces, turning the Protectors into one of the most respected forces in the Galaxy. It is not unusual for Clan leaders to reach out, asking for Protector support, and the requests that are deemed true and given support lend terrifying battle prowess to the battlefield. Groups have been known to break at the sight of the black entering the fray.

Since the fall of the GA, the Protectors have initiated a rotating force, where every Mandalorian warrior is invited to volunteer for at least three standard months a year in their service. This serves to strengthen the Mandalorians as a whole, allowing warriors to keep their edge, and giving them the chance to learn new skills from one of the Protectors many experts. In turn, this allows the warriors to take their new skills back to their clan, and to train their brothers in the finer arts of warfare. The time spent among the Protectors is intense, consisting of missions that serve the Mandalorian people, and stuctured training to strengthen a warrior in both body and mind. Bonds of brotherhood are forged during this time that can never be broken, each warrior valuing his brother’s life equally or greater than theirs.

During a Protector’s few off hours, they can normally be found at the local tapcafe like most Mandalorians, drinking, singing, and even fighting. These duels draw large crowds, bets being made and encouragement being shouted to the various participants. They are friendly competitions, used to show a warrior’s skill, with the winner able to expect his drinks paid for that night, and the loser suffering bruises and a blow to their ego.

Each Protector knows that the duty they swear to is life long. Although they return to their clans at the end of their service, a call to arms for the Protectors, whether or not the clan still exists, brings a force of dedicated and skilled warriors, ready to defend their people to the death.

Life as a Protector is not easy, but it is a rewarding life, and one seen as an honor to undertake by many.
