The Retrade is a syndicate that specializes in many manners of criminal conduct. They are expansive and have chapters, called “enclaves”, on many different planets in different parts of the galaxy, such as Coruscant, Dantooine, Tatooine, and Ryloth. It is predominantly a Twi’lek organization, but is not racially exclusive. The Retrade normally does not participate in gang or turf wars. They prefer to operate within other gangs; it has been confirmed that many members of the Hutt organization on Tatooine are also members of the Retrade. Little is known about the Retrade to the outside world overall, as many of the members would rather suffer legal penalties or deal with bounty hunters rather than cross their Guildmaster. Recently, however, a small group of Retrade fences were captured by high-tier bounty hunters. During interrogation, every individual gave up a wealth of information on the Retrade. It was unexpected, but worth a vast fortune; the bounty hunters sold the information abroad, sparking a sudden flux of attacks against the Retrade. This wave of harassment has heavily affected the Retrade. Not long before the release of this information, the Retrade had suffered a political coup and a change in leadership; Parok Shoak, the current Guildmaster of the Retrade, deposed the former leader Andar’akash after he failed to protect several enclaves from outside attack. Shoak, an underlord in the Retrade at the time, believed that Andar’akash’s leadership made them look weak, and many agreed. After peacefully abdicating, Andar’akash was quietly assassinated to prevent retaliation. Shoak, already very well-established within the Retrade, ascended to Guildmaster unopposed. Since Parok Shoak became Guildmaster, the Retrade has been rebuilding. Through Shoak’s guidance, the outside world appears to be none the wiser that the Retrade ever suffered a loss in the first place. Because of their nature of functioning in the background of the criminal underworld, the general public scarcely knows of the Retrade at all, and the Retrade has made it imperative to keep it that way. This has kept them from encountering more than minor confrontations with law enforcement for many years. The rebuilding process requires more members to return the Retrade to its former power. Although the day has not yet come when the Retrade requires more power than it has, the many members killed since the release of its information (most notably the Sandrunner Dossier) has left a large hole in its ranks. The Ona'bak Retrade is now recruiting aggressively but selectively. It targets well-known, reliable criminal masterminds and extends unto them an invitation. Most are honored to be selected by such a reputable syndicate; those who refuse, historically, are assassinated by those that accept. |
