THE STAR WARS RP
TECHNOLOGY OF THE TIMELINE

Weapons and Armours:

Before the widespread use of blaster oriented technology, slugthrowers were the primary form of armament for most sentient species. They were cheap to produce and reliable. Slugthrowers utilized chemical reactions to hurl harmful bolts of bronzium (although many types of alloy were used) at high velocity. The bolts were sometimes customized by Bounty Hunters to increase their deadliness. They could be poisoned, or even explode upon impact for devastating effects. However, the Alsakan Conflicts greatly helped to reduce the strength of slugthrowers. Breakthroughs were made in armour technology, and new generations of powered suits were mass produced. Their effectiveness was such that Republic and Alaskan armed forces alike turned to blaster oriented weapons, which was still in its infancy. Soon, blasters became lighter and cheaper. Their firepower exceeded that of any slugthrowers and no longer required the use of the cumbersome backpacks of Xim's time. Despite the advent of this new technology, slugthrowers remained the favoured weapon of many mercenaries. Their high rate of fire made them highly efficient against Jedi Knight.

Personal shields are extremely rare during this age, but not missing altogether. Steps have been taken to create and produce shields capable of withstanding small amounts of laser energies, though not without their drawbacks. Either the user would have to carry around a large power pack, as these shields drained considerable amount of power in order to use, or they would only last for a short while (insert specified time here, perhaps a minute or so). However, they do exist, and are available, for those who know where to find them.

Hyperspace

Since the discovery of hyperspace technology 37,000 years ago, hyperdrives have become a common necessity in starship design. Although attempts have been made in the past centuries to make hyperdrives more independent, nearly all systems still rely on hyperspace beacons and space stations to plot an hyperspace route. All of the necessary date is either acquired from the Republic Spacelanes Bureau or its Alaskan homologue.

Ships

Starships of this era were of less elegant designs than their New Republic counterparts, and were a lot more expensive. Just like the rifles and ground weapons, the most expensive of the vessels were blaster-enabled, usually carrying at least a blaster cannon or two, with the larger capital ships with around half a dozen. Cheaper vessels used slug-turrets, which fired multiple metallic or bronzium rounds at incredibly high velocities. Starships of older years typically carried three to four of these turrets, with a couple missile pods for extra punch. And again, like the ground weapons, some times mercenaries would favour the older starships, as they were cheaper, and much faster to fire, as well as more customizable. This is not to say that were better, as the more advanced laser-enabled vessels could decimate the older ships if given the chance.

Shielding technology was not the best during the Alsakan Conflicts, but it was becoming more readily viable, and were beginning to take more of a beating. Skilled battle tactitions knew when to throw their shields on, and when it was a good idea to attempt to dodge or let the enemy shots find their mark, usually conserving their shield power for more accurate or damaging strikes to the vessel.

Droids

For eons, droids were an integral part of every advanced civilization. However, they were first developed in what would become Republic space 17,000 years ago. Much of the current knowledge possessed on Artificial Intelligence comes directly from the ancient Rakatan Empire and Xim the Despot himself. In the past years, recent breakthroughs have been made, namely the ability of independent thought. Droid manufacturer's are slowly moving away from the old designs and are progressively creating new types of droids not necessarily meant for war. Artificial Intelligence, although in its infancy, can be found in the compositions of some starships. However, those working on this AI, have not been able to completely build a self-enabled protocol droid that could function on its own without the proper maintenance, failing to create a self-sufficient subject.
