Hey all Mando, Verd and Aliit'alore alike. I'm Wanderer(formerly known as Kin-Wan Bek) and while I've been around for a few months. Done a lot of roleplays, started a faction, and made characters from bounty hunters to Jedi to Sith to CEOs. But I've never created a Mandalorian character. However, my interest in them has been growing. Of course I was hesitant to create one. I really knew nothing about them other than them being badasses clad in awesome armor working as bounty hunters and soldiers for hire. So naturally I began to do some research. Their culture is far deeper and richer than I imagine and I still don't know everything on them. Though I can honestly say my interest is much greater and I've decided to create a character post skip. I have a few ideas, a name, and a picture but while I'm a veteran to roleplaying in general I'm still a bit green in this area. From what I've read this is a tight-knit faction.

My only real hangup is that I don't want to be one of those people that create a Mando because, "Oh a badass in badass armor." In other words I want to make a character who's more than the generic gun-toting soldier, someone with real impact that I can immerse in the culture. So before I even attempt to submit a cc for him, I thought I'd get some ideas and feedback from the Mando community on things like clan, occupation, the Verd'goten, and stuff like that. Also I believe I read about the splintering of clans and such, so any advice or feedback on creating a complex, rememberable Mando would be appreciated.

The best place to start is the Verd'goten, which in literal translation means "Becoming a warrior". It's a coming of age rite that varies from clan to clan and from parent to parent. There is no singular accepted method of performing a Verd'goten beyond it being some near-impossible task that can only be overcome through grit, determination and a will to live. This is the culmination of the tutor-like upbringing the child would have under his/her parents. It's not uncommon for Mandalorian children to be thrown into combat at age 6 or 8 and taught skills the hard way.

But again, there are differing methods between Mandalorians. The only constant is that the Resol'nare ( which is the basic code of conduct many Mandalorians subscribe to ) is taught and culminates in the Verd'goten.

A good thing to consider is what your character's Verd'goten was and how it affected them. How it shaped them. It's going to be their most defining moment, the moment that makes them go "This is me".

If your character was adopted though, what made him/her stand out? The Verd'goten is just as important to adopted members of the Mandalorians, no matter the age. It's entirely probable for a Mandalorian to marry an outsider and subject the spouse to a Verd'goten when they're ready, if the Mando is so inclined.

Ultimately though, Mandalorians are people. A very chaotic, very fluid people with no set 'way' to their ways beyond their prowess as warriors. You have a fair amount of freedom to make an interesting Mandalorian.
