Padawan to Knight Training

Padawans come from all different backgrounds, their lessons and experiences are not the same and therefore their training should not be the same. Padawans are presented with many choices in training, these include:

One-on-One training: This option allows for padawans to gain more focused attention on the area in which they are wishing to learn more about. This type of training is not limited to just the master/knight and padawan traditional training, but padawans may seek out other padawans in order to help one another improve in their skills. Padawans looking for one-on-one training may posts requests in this board.

Group Training: Group training is not limited to having Knights and Masters leading training sessions, but padawans may congregate and have group training sessions together.

Classes: Padawans may attend classes lead by Knights and Masters in the Order. Class offerings can be found in the Class Offering board.

Self Training: Padawans are free to research and contribute their findings to the Jedi Archives by following the appropriate guidelines. Due to the absence of temples, there is restricted access to the Archives and limited data available once accessible.

Missions: A great way for a padawan to test their skills is partake in missions, these also include skirmishes and battles. It is highly recommended padawans gain some basic understanding of Force powers and lightsaber combat before participating. Missions can be found either in the Mission Postings board or the Jedi OoC.

Training should be, if applicable, applied in the field. Lessons learned are best by doing, where mistakes can be made and allowing one to understand why they were made. Not only does it eliminate a tradition of boredom commonly seen in training threads, but it also allows for interaction with other peers and a greater understanding of what it means to be a Jedi.

If you are at a point where you believe your padawan is ready to become a Knight, here are some questions to ask yourself about your padawan:

  • Does my character uphold the Jedi Code? Just memorizing the Jedi code and reciting it does not demonstrate that your padawan understands it, they need to be able to show how they apply it. Also make sure your padawan knows the correct Jedi Code.

  • Is your Jedi padawan proficient in the discipline of the lightsaber? Your padawan should receive training in a lightsaber form whether or not you personally wish for them to be so. Just because your Jedi may be a pacifist or doesn't believe they will ever be a great duelist, they must know how to defend themselves.

  • Lastly, does your padawan understand the Force? Do they understand what is meant when one references the light side and the dark side? Does your padawan personally know how to distinguish the light from the dark in actions, thoughts, and behaviors within themselves and others? This is very important for a padawan to have a good grasp on.

If you can successfully answer the above questions, then you are most likely ready to apply for Knighthood. Obviously if you cannot answer these, then you should make necessary arrangements to gain the training you need. You can post your application, following the suggested format, in this board.

Knight to Master Training

A Jedi’s training and pursuit of knowledge should never end. There is always a lesson to be learned no matter one’s age or experience. A Knight should be continuing training in order to master their skills, whether it’s the blade, the Force, lore, or diplomacy.

A Knight should continue to gain experience through application on missions, whether its participation in the war or assisting citizens in minor galactic affairs. Just like padawan training, learning is best by doing, and getting out into the field is the best way to do this. Another path a Knight can take is to leading training sessions or to teach classes on topics they are wishing to master themselves. Once can clearly demonstrate whether or not they know something is by teaching others and passing on their own knowledge.

Much like a padawan’s training, if a Knight believes they are ready to become a master, they need to be able to fully demonstrate leadership capabilities, experience, and the knowledge and wisdom that follow with it. A Knight applying for Master status should be able to answer the following questions:

  • How does your Knight continue to uphold the Jedi Code? How do they influence others to do the same?
  • How has your Knight continued to further increase their control through discipline? Have they mastered a specific skill, i.e. blade, the Force, lore, or diplomacy?
  • How does your Knight actively embrace the light side of the Force? How has your Knight actively counter the dark side and its influences? How do they demonstrate this?
  • Lastly, how do you as a member contribute to the Jedi Faction?
If you can answer these questions without trouble, then you are probably read to apply for a Master title in the promotion thread. If not, then do what you need to do in order to achieve your goal.
