DESCRIPTION
The Vaya-class scout ship is an ancient model of survey vessel once manufactured by Hoersch-Kessel Drive. Once the standard vessel of the Republic Survey Corps, countless Vayas were built during its long production run, and for a time it was statistically the first Galactic vessel any previously un-contacted civilization would see. Even long after the fall of the Old Republic, some Vayas endure on the fringes of civilized space, often handed down through generations of career scouts. Many have been modified well beyond their original specifications.

Vaya-class scout ships are sturdy, angular vessels, designed for deep-space exploration and survey. At 30 meters long, they are compact for a ship of their era. Stock, Vayas have a crew of 3, including a pilot, co-pilot and astrogator, plus up to 4 passengers. 6 months worth of consumables and 60 tons of cargo could be carried. In terms of performance, the Vaya was decent for its time, with a top speed of 6 MGLT and a class 4 hyperdrive. Redundant backup hyperdrive and navicomputer systems were included, useful features aboard a ship which often operates far from any reliable support. Armament was likewise impressive for its time; the Vaya incorporates a fixed medium laser cannon and a single 8-shot concussion missile launcher. Defense is provided by a medium deflector shield.

LEGALITY
Legal. Scout ships such as the Vaya are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To create an archaic scout ship.
