V AYNAI

Vaynai, or ceremoniously dubbed the “Commonwealth of Vaynai,” is a pseudo-republic stationed deep in the heart of the Sith Empire. While many know it as a prominent resort world for wayfaring tourists and corporate tycoons, it has developed a name for itself among the galactic black market, most notably for its notorious organ trade and a lucrative network of opiates and narcotics. Likewise, many of its 22 million inhabitants reside in its only city, Hrdaya, as much of the Vaynai Archipelago was appropriated in favor of foreign corporations and grand resorts. Such overcrowding has attributed to widespread poverty, crime, and disease. Regardless, the planet is home to an incredibly rich and diverse culture, fashioned from centuries of immigration and unprecedented economic growth.

The sociopolitical atmosphere of Vaynai is of complex nature. While many of its inhabitants believe to be under the rule of a socialist republic, installed after a series of lower-class uprisings, it is in reality a puppet government administrated under the watchful eye of the Imperial Empire, as well as the upper echelons of society, so as to placate the populace into submission. In doing so, they have thus far been free to exploit many without limit and without concern. And despite this rampant abuse of power, most of the native population are ignorant to its truth, due to extensive propaganda and their focus on more explicit issues at hand, such as famine and disease.

The culture, on the other hand, is a concoction of the history and values of a hundred different species, most of which came upon Vaynai in hopes of fleeing the ongoing war. Religion, especially, varies among the populace, but present studies indicate shifts in beliefs by social class. For example, those living below poverty predominantly follow the “Faith of the Tide,” an ancient denomination exalting the ocean as the origin of life and death. Commoners, otherwise, follow in a conventional belief in the force, while wealthier classes are typically atheistic.

When it comes to language, Galactic Basic is considered the prevailing dialect throughout the planet, and perhaps the one element that connects the extensive gap between the rich and poor. Pavitra, meaning "holy tongue," is also the liturgical language spoken throughout those devoted to the "Faith of the Tide," and may be found in a variety of philosophical and scientific texts. Unbeknownst to the ruling class and their Sith counterparts, however, the sacred language also acts as the basis for communication between insurgent groups dotted across the planet, due to its comprehensive structure and style, as well as the lack of Imperial knowledge on the subject.

H ISTORY

The earliest known remains of civilization trace back to thousands of years ago, where an advanced seafaring people sailed the endless oceans of Vaynai, establishing sprawling settlements as they went. However, a cataclysmic event in the midst of their golden age wiped them out, and all records of their progress were lost, save for only remote towers settled across the planet. Proficient in all branches of science and even capable of interstellar travel, archeologists continue to debate on what could have possibly lead to the end of an entire species. The leading theory, of course, points to the rise of the old Sith Empire. Some argue otherwise, citing ancient Imperial records which indicate the planet was seeded with slave colonists long after the civilization’s fall.

Regardless, the Vaynai that we know of today was established under the first Sith Empire as a colony for menial laborers, conceived so as to harvest exotic fauna, such as Cripe to Glaav fish, and medicinal seaweed. Even then, it was a resort world for affluent Sith Lords, who fashioned themselves massive castles and châteaus still in use to this day. They carved their name into the sand, but as the Empire plunged into turmoil and conflict, their legacy was washed clean by waves of time. Although Vaynai was liberated by the Republic after the Empire's fall, it fared no better than before. Corporate interests from the Core swamped the planet, and the native population, uneducated and underprivileged, could do nothing but watch as they were driven from their homes and into the “shining capital” of Hrdaya.

Enduring a century of hardship and distress, the natives grew sour with the wealthy, and several splinter groups resolved to overthrow them. Without a unified banner, however, the planet continued to rot under its cruel aristocratic government. But all that changed with the emergence of the Sith Brotherhood, who sought the world once again for its rare resources and labor force. So, under a masterful ploy, they sparked numerous lower and middle-class uprisings that eventually led to the overthrow of the government. Yet ever so clever, the Sith instituted puppet leaders within the new republic, who would from then on answer to its ruling Moff. And while the populace is today led to believe they have a voice in their government through periodic elections (which has thus far always ended in favor to the Empire), they are rather left to cavort in the mud as if nothing has changed.

And really, nothing has.

Love it, love it, love it. Love, especially, that you're tying this to an ongoing storyline. I'd definitely like to see some expansion on the "exotic fauna" mentioned here. Will that be a story point that you wish to unveil in the RP, or is that something you'd be willing to expand upon here?

Thank you!

As for that whole "exotic fauna" part, I kind of generalized it into some plain old colorful whales or some shite. Nothing really significant in that other than an attempt to draw out the word length. I'll edit in an example though, if need be.

It would be nice, but it's not necessary. I just wanted it to be in there if it was going to be some game-altering thing. Let me know if you need to edit this thing as the story progresses. Approved.

So it's space + Asia and Japan.

Spasiapan?

I need to start looking at planet profiles to see where to visit.
