Sup everyone! I want to make the Waste Rangers as cool and accessible and well put together as I possibly can so I'm opening up this thread here for any criticism, suggestions, or ideas which I might implement. So when a thought emerges or you struggle with something on this board please mention it so I can do my best to make it right!

I quite like the idea of Dorax getting into a fight in the Deadlands Coliseum

Give them a unified direction. They have one, but it's nebulous. They need something much more solid to bring them together as a group...in my mind at least.

Their goal: Maintaining Wild West Law and Order in the galaxy. And to hang the criminals high. :datass:

I understand the sentiment Lucid but one of our biggest draws (at least I think) is that we allow a large degree of freedom

That being said there is the direction of turning Zonju V into a place worth living with laws and a unified government

With that model I'd hope for the Rangers to move out into other wild space worlds and seek to spread that justice while still allowing them to keep their native culture and traditions

plus were gonna get a big fleet and crash it into Coruscant

I understand that, however, while freedom is a nice way to bring people in it can also cause a problem where people feel like their writing is ineffective or worse, they feel like they can only do small threads or social threads because that's what they see as freedom. Solidifying a goal or two or three provides large-scale objectives that people can do collabs to work toward and feel like their writing is accomplishing something for the faction.

Duke, you may have some of these goals Lucid is referring to already in mind, such as the droid factory arc.

That's extremely true and I'll work to make sure there is an impact laid out in every mission we do.

For now there are arcs which will have a large scale impact both on Ranger growth and the political landscape on Zonju and Divisional missions where members can literally shape entire sections of the Rangers

What is your intent for the Waste Rangers? Why are they there? What are they doing? What is their relationship with the rest of the Galaxy? Why are they able to travel anywhere?

Those questions.

Actually I'm writing up a history now that addresses some of that

as for the original intent, I wanted them to sort of be a new police force for the independent zone as Alliance enforcement vanished

Lucid does bring up a point in that the Waste Rangers don't have many goals outside bettering themselves. Being involved on a galactic stage is a powerful draw for the Waste Rangers, especially since they are one of the biggest and most active indie factions on the site. It would be a waste (HA!) to not tap into that.

Independent police force in a zone with no official government that is supposed to work within the bounds of planetary and system specific laws and regulations? Why would planets agree to work with a loosely organized group of outlaws policing their sectors? Why would the Waste Rangers not aim to become the dominant force in the independent zone? Why would they not try to set up a coalition/federation of planets in the independent zone to help protect that independence? Why would the waste rangers sacrifice their ideals to become a simple police force?

That's definitely a goal I had and one I feel I'm performing

I'm hosting refugee Jedi, I'll be making alliances with HELLFIRE Solutions, Clan Orar, the Rendili Raiders, several independent characters including one that wants to start an independent news networks and I'm currently a major antagonist of the Hutt Cartel

Thing is I have to grow to further my impact in which we might help the Rebels and other independent factions like the TEF

Edit: Sorry Lucid we were posting at the same time. To address your concern I had thoughts of becoming dominant, but it would be more like a Confederacy, collective defense and a basic constitution. Constitution would outlaw slavery, ask for universal suffrage, the whole nine yards

Planets would be locally autonomous but universal matters would fall to a larger council

still that's far in the future and for now were in what is essentially chapter one

Once you're hosting refugee Jedi, you'll become a target for the Sith and thrown onto the world stage regardless. Being an antagonist of the Cartel and the Sith spells almost certain destruction...TBH i'd turn the jedi away and/or hand them over to the cartel once you're offering them asylum as a gesture to rebuild relations with the cartel and cover your ass from the sith.

EDIT: Or start building that confederacy now, before the sith and cartel are wise to you harboring Jedi.

I'm used to being screwed and isn't it kind of a tradition for subboard indies to be hunted by the Sith?

Pretty much.

Heck if it comes down to it they could descend on me at any moment and wipe out everything Ranger

but do I think they're that petty?

Yes...yes I do

So I will be working to expand and quickly, but one can only write so fast
