Jedi Archives

The Archives of the Jedi Order, generally known simply as the Jedi Archives, is a vast collection of knowledge held in the Jedi Temple on Ossus. It consists of only three levels, though the underground complex is very large in its area. Most of the archives are made up of written text, though there are some computers found throughout the complex that can be used for research. The general collection is located in the three story chamber that met in a long main area at the center. Of this main aisle are hundreds of smaller ones that divide the stacks. Each contains hundreds of pieces of text, carefully sorted and arranged into categories and subcategories.

Ringing the middle level is a walkway with stairs that leads to the main area directly below. This area is used as a hub for navigating between general information and the stories above it that also holds a great deal of information. Accessed by a stairwell in the center of the large room, curious Jedi can delve through the three stories worth of shelves and limited computers that house great amounts of the knowledge.

Some areas of the archives are dimly lit, which theoretically would make it difficult for Jedi to study. However, this is not the case as each table has a light for help in reading research materials. There are also candles lit throughout the stone archives and dozens of large lights hanging from the highest ceiling. This allows for a calm and relaxed environment where Jedi can feel at peace, all while allowing adequate light to study and research.

Because the Jedi Archives have been operating for twelve thousand years, the architecture reflects the ancient designs of the earliest members of the Jedi Order. It is made entirely of stone and very few modern lights have been added, as the Jedi Council has continued to keep it lit mostly by candles. The area has had very few modifications made to it over the years, mostly through the installation of some modern computers. Most of the work done on the archives is simply maintenance to ensure that the ancient area is always safe and structurally sound.
